I recently upgraded my home system to Kodi from Frodo XBMC. I like the interface for it much better than Plex, so I choose to use it in my house. It runs primarily on a dedicated HTPC connected to my receiver. Also to a couple desktop PCs. Watched lists are maintained via a mySQL database. Media...
Seriously. Had to redo my parity after adding a new PPU. Figured I would update to the latest release instead of running a version from 2 years ago. Took me over a week to get everything back to working again.
NCIX US has it on sale for $595.

Easiest way I've found is to set up the remote as an MCE Keyboard in the Logitech software. That way you can assign the buttons to a keypress on a keyboard.
There's a list of XBMC keyboard shortcuts here.
You can also get more involved, editing the keymaps.xml and such but try that out and if...
I live in a town of just over 6,000 in Colorado and about 100 miles from the nearest city, Denver. I have 50/10 from Comcast for $60 a month. I can also upgrade to 100/10 if I want to.
I'm throwing in another vote for a Roku in your situation. I was very happy with mine, but got the tinkering itch and moved to an raspberry. I'm now on a full blown HTPC because the experience with RPi was, while somewhat rewarding, ultimately frustrating.
Even my roommate, who is somewhat...
The issue here is definitely your server. I run Plex at home, as well as streaming it to several people outside of my home network. I have full 40gb Bluray rips that load from the server in my sig just as quickly as the 1080p files do. Before I upgraded the server it was running on an old...
You choose the number of parity disks in Flexraid, theoretically allowing you to handle n failures.
Also, there is a pooling solution with FlexRaid. Not quite as advanced as the balancing with ZFS, but it works.
Nice thing about CrashPlan is it's a set it and forget it type deal, whereas if you have a new picture you haven't moved over yet on a HDD that crashes, you're screwed.
Power supply, this review is of the new CX430. I've got one in my server. Seasonic wasn't worth the extra money. Modular...
If you can control the ambient light in the room, plasma is still the way to go. Best picture quality, best blacks, and best response time. Plus they're seemingly always coming down in price. I have seen several deals for Panasonic 50-60" plasmas for 600-750 over the last month. I'm not sure...
If you're going to buy the motherboard at Microcenter, might as well get the CPU there too and save an extra $50, plus their price on the 3225 is $119. Also, they've got a bundle deal on Crucial Ballistix to bump you up to 8gb of RAM. Overkill? Yes, but for $10 more, why not?
My media server is...
I will get the pic for you tomorrow. I have an SSD and a 2.5" drive in that last cage right now, so I will put a full size drive in and see how much room is left.
I've been doing some research on it this afternoon, looks fairly simple. I may redo the connections on the SATA string too. Unclamping them and flipping the connectors would make the cable management a lot easier for the HDDs. I just have to find one extra power connector to add to the string to...
How safe is modding a PSU? I'm running an Antec High Current Gamer 430w. If I can remove the extra cables I would prefer doing that instead of buying a new PSU I don't really need. What all does this entail? Removing the extraneous cables and heatshrinking the exposed wires?
I got the i5 from...
I would be very surprised if you need all of that 1.3 volts to hit 4.2 stable. Lower voltage = lower temps.
I'm about 8 hours into a 12 hour stability test for 4.4ghz at 1.175volts. Of course each chip is going to be a little different, but definitely try out your stability at a lower voltage.
An update on my system, now that it's built. I decided to go the opposite way bastage, I went all out on mine. Ended up with the system in my sig.
Intel DH77DF Mini ITX
Intel I5 3540
Crucial 8gb 1600
IBM M1015
4x Seagate 2tb
Crucial M4 256gb
I'm running Server 2012 with FlexRaid. Very happy...
I'm actually putting together a build in the Node 304 for this same purpose.
The ASRock motherboard you're looking at only has 4 total SATA connections; the Intel, 3. For my server I'm planning on going with the ASUS P8H77-I so I can use all 6 drive bays without having to install a RAID...
My 3400+ died tonight, seems the fan stopped spinning, and my motherboard failed to notice... It makes a nice excuse to upgrade. I've got a budget of about $1000, already have a case and optical drives, and I'm still on the fence about overclocking. Let's get to it:
Intel Core2Duo E6300...
Well, I got a gig out of this deal.
I tried for another 512 today, and the manager recognized me. He made me bring in my machine (probably the nicest most of the Geek Squad have handled there) and show him here I found the coupon. He disappeared for a sec and came back stating he was...
Greetings,
I am interested in trading my SWG CD's and account for your EVE CD and account.
My SWG character is on the Kauri server, is a Master Smuggler, Master Bounty Hunter, and has enough FS XP to get at least one branch.
I'm looking for an industrial EVE account, preferably with...
Thanks for all the advice! I really think I will have to make a summer trip up there an set this all up for him.
He will have 5 TV's in 5 rooms, three rooms he wants full audio in. So, we can do 3 small clients, and 2 MVP's/Extenders. I still need some generic specs on how much power those...
I remember a Winamp2 plugin that did this rather unsuccessfully. I can't remember the name for the life of me, but it might set you on the right track.
How many TVs?
I think 4 TV's, but will check.
What TV service does he have?
I believe Comcast Digital.
How many rooms?
5 rooms, one with no TV.
What TVs and connectors do they have?
Will mostly be new TV's, one existing Sony 36", will get connectors. We're thinking a projector for the...
Okay, my friend has recruited me to help him set up his new house with a kick ass home theater system. He will be going balls out on this, and money is not too much of an object.
First lets begin with what I know how to do. I can build him a PC. This PC can serve up music and video, and live...
