I have been shopping for 1 TB drives for a RAID media server and the thought occurred to me: 1TB drives have been out now for a long while.
Why buy several 1 TB size now when something larger is over due?
So I searched the net looking for info on larger drives to be released this year and...
An Intel question if I may?
I have a 3.8 Intel OCd to 4.0. It works well in a multitasking XP OS with hyperthread. When I am working and some other process kicks in the CPU allocates it self well and applications dont seem to suffer to great a performance hit.
I just built a new PC for...
I do a fair bit of video compression work. I have a water cooled 3.8 Mhz over clocked to 4.0 Mhz.
It runs hot as hell when the CPU is 100% for a few hours at a time. The system is now about 18 months old.
I dont need a system 5% faster than what I have, I want a system about 10 times...
Yesterday I unplugged a USB printer and plugged in my Sony Camera, so then XP wanted me to call India again for permission to use my operating system.
This isnt the first time, recently I replaced a bad floppy drive and removed half the memory ( 2GB to 1 GB) to see if that speeds up memory...
I scheduled both a chkdsk (of F:) & then ran BootVis, on boot it ran chkdsk then bootvis (which failed) and now every time I boot it runs chkdsk on F:
How do I clean this up?
I was OK with a 5% OC using a Zalman CPU cooler, I wanted more so I put on a Koolance Exos and tried 10% OC, which lasted 2 weeks.
I don't undersand, the temp probe never showed "hot" ? It stayed under 40C always.
Should be possable to put my best cheats in to text file and run them as a executable script. I tried everything but I can't get it to work.
Has anyone?
Can anyone get me started?
In the old days one would put 2 hard disks on one channel (master & slave), then if they had a CD-Rom or two put them on their own channel (master & slave).
I have a boot Raptor, a 300 GB general use hard disk and 2 SATA DVD-RW drives. After booting I realized they came up 1 HD & 1 DVD on...
Last week I ordered a Koolance Exos system for my ASUS P5AD2-E MB from frozencpu.
I was using a Zalman cooler which runs 10F cooler than the OE cooler. I put everything together and no boot. The water block was resting on the capacitors. So Friday I call frozenCPU for a spacer block and they...
I saved my favorite cheats to text file with no extension. From the consol I type "exec myfile" and nothing.
so I move the text file around looking for the proper directory and even save it the root of D:\ and type
exec d:\myfile
but I always get the same message
can't execute...
I guess after several times of finishing HL2 I am entitled to a cheat or two.
Set buckshot damage to 30 and buckshot number to 200 and blow zombies head over tea cups, they tumble like a rag doll shot out of a cannon. It is nice special effect.
I also found a way to finish the game in...
Water block choices for Intel 775 seem to be scarce. Has anyone put together a list and tested them all?
Any reviews?
Any experiences to share?
Just chuck it an buy a AMD?
;-)
Forgive my new guy question. Danger Den has several anti-freeze type additives, including FluidXP, wetter water, Zerex and MCT-40. Does anyone have good or bad experiences with any of these products they would like to share?
I don't know where to start with all the choices.
I have question I would like some help pondering.
I have 2 DVD-R drives on an ATA100 bus. (see system details below) I like to archive DVDs to disk using DVD Shrink.
Now nothing seems to be CPU limited in the process. I can put in one DVD and analyze & encode at ~ 5,600 KB/s. But if I put...
I purchased a new system (P4 3.8Mhz) part by part for Christmas. From what I read I knew I should not expect the Intel cooler to get the job done. Problem is the big as grapefruit Zallman cooler will not fit in my new & fancy Lian-Li black case so I am using an old and nasty looking case...
Typically I upgrade about every 2-3 years. I have a P4 2.8 non hyper-threading system that while only 2 years old was beginning to wear on me. Now if Intel had stayed on the road map with a P5 running at say 6.0 Mhz for under $800 this would have all been simple decision but a jump from a 2.8...
I have a MB with two built in gigabit Ethernet adapters. I plug into a 4 port 10/100 router then to a cable modem (insightbb).
I dont think I ever use up the 10/100 bandwidth with a cable modem, Cable modem may use 5% of the 100 mb bandwith on peak.
OTOH I do have an extra port and extra...
See sig below for hardware.
Well my ASUS P5AD2 with graphics card and P4 570j came in today so I bolted it all together and installed XP with out a problem.
I had a difficult time getting it to find the 10/100/1000 so I reinstalled the driver and rebooted.
Now its DOA. Green LED is...
I am planning an upgrade of my PC, actually I may only keep the power cord since video, CPU, PS even the floppy will change since I may go to a black case.
My 2.8 system runs HL2 well enough unless I am saving/loading then I have 10-20 sec wait during disk access. Now I am not upgrading to...
I have been shopping dual Xeon MB & CPUs. What Good is EM64T? I can address 8GB memeory is I used 2 GB memory sticks?
I could download and use 64bit XP Pro free for a year?
Am I missing something here? My use is a office/business workstation. Would graphics, disk access or memory speed...
Not that long ago I purchased a second 21 display. It was great to have a pair of 21 displays but it was way too warm to live with.
Now I am looking to build another system. I want a dual Xeon system but I might end up with a single 3.4EE. It seems getting the heat out of CPU is only a...
I would be grateful for some advice from the dual CPU experts. I dont want to fight, I did not come for that. I am an experienced single CPU, mostly Intel guy but new to multi-proc workstations.
I am looking to greatly improve system performance but I am not a game player, (or hugely...
I posted a few days ago, I am ready for my semi annual major upgrade. Not being current I planned to use the ASUS P5DAD2 MB but many posts here were very negative.
I don't want the problems of a $260 bad motherboard so I called tech support for a supplier we all would know well.
I asked...
My current workstation is about 2 years old. It is a P4 2.8 system, with IDE RAID. I have a few dimes and I want a new monster system. My last AMD system never resolved problems with USB interrupts so I am resolved to stay with Intel.
Well I start looking at ASUS P5AD2 because I want to keep...
