I do a fair bit of video compression work. I have a water cooled 3.8 Mhz over clocked to 4.0 Mhz.

It runs hot as hell when the CPU is 100% for a few hours at a time. The system is now about 18 months old.

I don’t need a system 5% faster than what I have, I want a system about 10 times faster that what I have. Where is Moore’s law when you need it?

Please correct me if I misunderstand, but my next hope is the quad core 2 version due out 1st-2nd Q of ’07?

It is summer, with two workstations in my office I am ready to move my Koolance Exos on the other side of my office window, the central AC just does not keep up.
 
Koolance makes less noise than the Zalman and at least takes the heat out of the case. Still it is like a hot plate left on in my office.

Reading elsewhere, I might be able to plug a quad core in to my existing MB?

Other rumors - Intel will go water cooling?

For what it's worth, I've been running Koolance Exos (1st gen) since Jan '03. It's seen a Wavemaster, then a TJ-06, and a 2.4 @ 3.2 and a 3.2E @ 3.7 (current) with no problems at all. I do, however, change the fluid and clean the bottom of the rad every 6 months or so.

Edit: And Moore's law involves the number of trasistors on a circuit, not really 'speed'.
