The Maxtors will probobly be a little faster due to their high data density and 16mb cache but the Seagates are solid drives with 5yr warranties while the Maxtors have 3yr warranties.
Maxtor didn't send me a Maxtor drive. They sent me a Crapstor. After 4 weeks my drive in my new computer I built is refusing to boot up in my computer today. After many tries I was able to get it to spin up. I'm keeping it on until I get a replacement because I need my computer until the...
My 3 1/2 week old Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus 80GB drive is scaring me. SMART has all sorts of errors:

Be careful with those old drives. Last night I added an old 1.2gb western digital caviar 21200 to my system for backup imporatant files that was from an old system that was having problems holding a file system but I pulled it outa my closet to see if it at least worked some. BIOS recognized...
Usually when you buy a case they give a nice little baggy of HDD Screws labeled. When I bought my case they gave me like 50 of them.
You can also try your local hardware store.
SocceRich20, is that an Aspire Alien Case I see? I have the same case. I love it.
I took the drive rails out for extra airflow and only kept one I needed for the drive.
*Looks at maxtor 80gb 8mb cache drive that is only 3 days old and knocks on wood.*
All brands are decent but if you've had bad luck with maxtor then another brand is a wise choice. However, I would replace power supply since it may be causing the hd failures. Good luck :D
Yea, simply speaking it's decent but nothing spectacular. You can find better deals. I just ordred a Maxtor Diamondmax9 80gb 8mb cache today from newegg for $70. If you looked hard enough you could get a 120gb drive for $100 or cheaper.
Maxtor are much cheaper than seagates, so if your...
I'm struggling to decide which drive to buy. I'm gonna order computer parts from newegg.
AMD 64 2800+
512MB DDR PC3200
80GB SATA 8mb cache
ATI 9600 Pro
The two contenders are:
Seagate 80gb 7200.7 SATA 8mb Cache
Maxtor Diamondmax9 SATA 8mb Cache
I need the computer to be pretty...
Sorry, I meant what are the two drives strong and weak points? I'm just wondering which drive would be quiet but still fast and reliable. I'm not sure which brand (i.e seagate, wd, maxtor) would fulfill these requirements. These drives would probobly be in use for 4+ years. :)
I...
In my computer I have a 20gb drive used just for regular storage. Anything above 10gigs is still useful for backup of important files, extra storage space for music, or pictures etc. ;)
I'm building two computers. One for me and one for my grandfather. Here again comes the monotonous question, which drive to get? I want a speedy drive, reliable & somewhat quiet.
The choices are as follows:
Western Digital 80gb 7200rpm 8mb cache
Maxtor 80gb 7200rpm 8mb cache
I've...
Are your computers networked? You can send all the music to another computer on the network if it has enough space on the drive. That's what I do when I'm not lazy enough to reformat :D
The hard drive doesn't make any weird noises. I think the computer was overheating because I took the side cover off and restarted and it seems normal again. Scared me for a second
Hey, today my computer is acting like it has issues. It takes forever to react. I open my computer and double clicking on c: takes forever to execute or open any files in it. It constantly in the corner says not responding and then it finally loads. The computer seems really sluggish and it...
I heard from somewhere it depends on the file system. I heard on NTFS fragmentation doesn't really effect performance at all and this was from pcworld magazine. Not sure if I believe it though.
Get whatever has the longest warranty (i.e seagate). I'd never buy a hard drive that has a 1yr warranty while one just as good has a 3yr warranty. Seems seagate stands behind their product.
