The Maxtors will probobly be a little faster due to their high data density and 16mb cache but the Seagates are solid drives with 5yr warranties while the Maxtors have 3yr warranties.

Dump the raptor if it's too loud. I've heard that you can't tell the difference between raptor speed and a 7200rpm 8mb cache hard drive.

Usually when you buy a case they give a nice little baggy of HDD Screws labeled. When I bought my case they gave me like 50 of them. You can also try your local hardware store.

In my computer I have a 20gb drive used just for regular storage. Anything above 10gigs is still useful for backup of important files, extra storage space for music, or pictures etc. ;)

Are your computers networked? You can send all the music to another computer on the network if it has enough space on the drive. That's what I do when I'm not lazy enough to reformat :D

The hard drive doesn't make any weird noises. I think the computer was overheating because I took the side cover off and restarted and it seems normal again. Scared me for a second :eek:

I heard from somewhere it depends on the file system. I heard on NTFS fragmentation doesn't really effect performance at all and this was from pcworld magazine. Not sure if I believe it though.

Get whatever has the longest warranty (i.e seagate). I'd never buy a hard drive that has a 1yr warranty while one just as good has a 3yr warranty. Seems seagate stands behind their product.
