My Hitachi laptop drive is slowly but steadily losing SMART values.

Load/Unload Cycle Count

Value : 31
Threshold: 0
Worst: 31
Inc: -57

GMR Head Amplitude

Value: 95
Threshold: 0
Worst: 95
Inc: -4

Reallocated Sectors Count: 1
Reallocated Event Count: 1

Nearest T.E.C: 9/2/2005

Accuracy reported: 97%

Drive Model: Hitachi_DK23EA-30

Should I be concerned? This thing has lots of important stuff on it to me and I don't want to lose it but backups are nearly impossible for me.

Drive is approximately 1 yrs old. Inside HP ZE4200 Notebook.

AMD XP-M 2000+
512mb ddr
30GB 4200rpm

Thanks

well
SMART parameter are useful but rarely form a single set of events
so I guess what does slowly and steadily entail?

I would point out though that backups arent really optional
if you care about your data
its always a matter of time, and a HDD is an extremely fragile device
a 2.5" form factor laptop being more robust than a 3.5" internal
but its still just one good smack at the wrong time away from a paperwieght
