I ended up keeping them in the mkv format, I get all of the sound a good picture quality I built a new server just for this so life is good now. I have a bit of space to grow
I purchased some drives off of newegg 3tb hgst drives to be exact, found out they were refurbished. My mistake on not reading the ad, I understand this
when a drive was tested it said it has ran for 19k hours, that concerns me.
is this normal? I'm thinking of returning them.
thoughts anyone?
I currently have my movies on a 6TB drive and my TV Shows on a 3TB drive and my music on its own 3TB drive. I have the same size external drives that I keep up to date backups on. I do like the idea of have mirrored drives, and I do believe that my LSI 9211 card can do that with no worries. I am...
Thank you everyone, I just put in another 3TB HDD so i will just leave them in the MKV format as suggested. most of the BluRays are the action / animated films that I want to keep, my cpu is long in the tooth however still a good one (i7 3770) with 32gb ram, I don't have the desire right now to...
I have all of my BluRays ripped with MakeMKV and was wondering if leaving them in this format is good with Plex Media Server, or should I just use handbrake and transcode them to MP4 as the same as my SD Movies.
Which is the Best way to have them?
Good Evening All,
I have an Intel DH77EB motherboard which is paired with an i7 3770 and 32gb of ram. The motherboard has dropped 1 sata port and now the video is going south. None of my local PC shops carry the 1155 motherboard any more and I really can't find one that I like on newegg as they...
I've got a pretty decent Plex server, and I just added a 3tb drive so I do not mind leaving them, however I do put the movies on the ipads for the kids when they travel so I do like having them at a smaller size. right now I have the settings for handbrake set at video constant quality 15, audio...
Forgive me if this has been posted, I did a search and could not find.
I have a Plex server, Roku's and IPads,
I have a few movies that I have that I can no longer rip with AnyDVD so I started to use MakeMKV which plays the movies great on my PC using VLC player.
the Blurays are pretty large...
Hello Everyone!
I have a domain with about 200 users all over the US, in all but one location we have a Gigabit network with ample server storage. I just upgraded to Server 2012 R2 for all server and have a specific server for the users Home drives and folder redirection.
My question is this...
I have been installing SSD's into laptops and have noticed that the update process in Windows 7 is taking forever now. The latest one that I have installed took over night to find all of the updates,
Is anyone else having this problem? I am not installing Windows 10 just yet for our business,
I have to replace the current 500gb hard drive in my wife's laptop. I can get a 1tb mechanical for $99 or a 250gb SSD for the same price. is the SSD worth going to? then just pick up a 500gb for an external?
Correct, no metadata for the new tv shows. the only difference on the shows is that the new are Bluray's. I have made sure that the metadata is set to thetvdb.com and have also switched it to my local metadata in the settings. I'm really perplexed by this.
I recently upgraded to the latest version of Plex, now I am having an issue where Plex will see the media, add it to the TV Show list, but it will just say Episode 1, 2 etc. I have converted the shows, (Blu Ray Version of X-Files) with makemkv, then changed to MP4. once this is done I use media...
I had an HTPC in every room of my house with a server running all of my media. I combined my living room HTPC and server into a nice Fractal Design case and now I am moving that out of the living room. I recently just purchased 3 Roku 3 and 1 Roku 4 (just to try it out) and am loving the...
well I was wondering when it would happen, AnyDVD no longer works...
from the Slysoft website:
Due to recent regulatory requirements we have had to cease all activities relating to SlySoft Inc.
We wish to thank our loyal customers/clients for their patronage over the years.
I just was given 2 identical older servers that have the following specs:
Dual Xeon E5620 @ 2.4ghz
32gb ddr3 single channel
S5520SC Intel Motherboard
Intel SC5650 server chasis (tower model)
Switching 570 Watt PSU
I am currently using an i7 3770 and and intel board with an LSI raid card...
I did it, I am finally free of Comcast crappy cable! I took in my cablecard and boxes yesterday and actually had to wait in line. there were about 5 people ahead of me who were doing the same. apparently in our local area they raised the cable rate by 23 dollars so people were not happy.
One...
I have been fighting with Comcast for the past couple of days, it seems that my bill went up over 40$ and if I want to get it back under 100 then I have to go to basic channels and internet. I went and bought an OTA HD antenna today and the quality is pretty good. combined with my Netflix, Roku...
so I took back the RCA and picked up the Mohu. It is defiantly better than the other, I was able to get the channels that I watch most.
I received a call from Comcast today from the "loyalty" department. basically if I wanted to keep my cable they would put me on the basic channels but I...
thank you Vladias for all of the links, I appreciate it.
at this time I do not have the money to purchase the DVR that is linked, I do have a htpc that I have been using and want to continue to use, as I have several hard drives that are available for recording.
I went to best buy and found an rca 30$ antenna, it works ok, however it is basically a pair of powered rabbit ears that I have to move to pick up certain channels. So I will be returning those and finding something a little different. I have been reading about the Mohu antennas so I think I...
I have finally lost my patience with these people. I had a promotion that ended in September, no worries. I called and asked if they had any comparable plans, they told me that I could get one that had the basic channels.
So just got my bill and it had gone up over 40$, I called and was told...
I am curious if a Ceton Infinitv 4 tuner can be used with an HD antenna. I am about to get rid of the cable and looking for something that will work with my existing gear and so I can record some local channels.
if not then my other plan is just doing away with the HTPC and going strictly...
I currently have a SAS 9211-4i controller card that I was thinking of moving into my new media server. I have 4 2tb drives I was planning on using along with a montherboard that has 2 6gb/s ports on it. Also a 6tb drive already being used, thinking of getting another.
is there a better card...
I completely agree, I do not have the time now to really tinker with it like I did 7 years ago. I enjoy just adding the movie here and there and just relaxing and watching the movie.
First I understand that separating out the HTPC and Server is a good idea, but I am just curious on how many people out there actually have an "all in one" system.
My current setup is basically an all in one, however in the past I have gone overboard with a server with over 10 hard drives...
I do still buy the series that I want. I just got MASH complete series, Star Trek TNG. I understand that it is a waste of money these days with all of the streaming available.
I'm curious, with all of the new streaming sites (amazon, netflix etc) how many out there still actually purchase DVD's for their collection? I am still buying all of the TV shows that I want, I'm currently on an 80's kick. Knight Rider, Alf, Street Hawk...
I understand what you mean. After working on technology all day I do not to mess with it at home on my own time.
this is what I have after years of trial and error:
1 HTPC that has all of my media, ie tv, movies, pictures & music on one 6tb hdd. I do have another 6tb as external that...
Greetings,
I have a 2008 MacBook Unibody that I purchaced new. this thing is a powerhouse that keeps going. I have upgraded the HDD to a 500gb and the memory to 4gb.
Currently I am carrying around two laptops and want to slim this down. I use the mac as I am familiar with it. The...
so I pulled the trigger and got the ASrock mainboard. received them and noticed that they only have 2 ram slots (my fault) I have 16gb 1333 ram to put into them. I ended up getting 2 of them so I will be building 2 identical computers, one for HTPC use and one for my other uses such as BD Rips...
I have done a complete clean install on the intel board, however the BSOD continues. I did just receive the Aasrock B75M R2.0 board today so I will work on getting this one setup. I did happen to lay hands on 2 of the i7 CPU's so I did get two boards as well.
One thing that I did not look at...
While the current board is still functioning, I am getting BSOD's at least 3 times a day. I have switched out the memory and even switched out the 1tb hdd with a SSD 250. yes the SATA ports are a good selling point as I will start using the box for backup of my movies and music
Greetings!
I have a DH77E Intel board and getting a asrock b75m r2.0 on Monday. I just picked up an old mini display port pcie card (3 monitors) and was wanting to see if there is any way I can use the card and the onboard HDMI out to my TV at the same time.
has anyone gotten this to work...
you are right, I will keep my home life out of it
Oh this is the cpu that I would be using:

My wife was upset because the case was just setting in the garage and I had moved it to her storage shelves. She had had enough when I told her that I would use it someday, I can not blame her.
all of my movies are already in MP4 format so I do not think I will be doing any transcoding, I may...
Hello Everyone!
I could really use some guidance on selecting the components for a new HTPC. While I do have some parts I do not know if reusing them is a good thing due to age:
What I have:
i7-3770
16gb 1333 DDR 3 or 8gb 2000 (oc)
2 - 3tb hard drives with movies and tv shows
ceton...
