That's the thing with MSI. The manual for the motherboard available for download does not contain the usual BIOS setting pages.
And I saw somewhere that they don't ship a paper manual with their boards anymore. I don't know if that is true - I will find out on Friday. (I've seen a lot of things...
Thanks for that. That is basically what I had heard: that the Asus BIOS was better for overclocking because of all the extra settings.
But since this is a pro rig for my office (with the capability to do some gaming when I need to "work late") I'm not going to be doing much overclocking, so a...
Both use AMI BIOS. Is anyone here familiar with both?
I'm planning a Z790 build currently. Pro rig.
I've narrowed it down to the Asus Prime Z790-A Wifi and the MSI Pro Z790-A Wifi.
Both boards are essentially the same. The MSI board has a couple of extra ports and better audio codec. Leaning...
Check the processor orientation in the socket. You got to get that right for the socket to lock (Read the friendly manual). It should lock fairly easily. The CPU cooler is not used to hold the CPU in place.
Other likely cause would be a short circuit - motherboard to case.
Check the mounting...
I will also ignore the side projects and PCs I built for other people.
My introduction was to set up and use a PC in the construction company I worked at. An HP Vectra ES/12 to run Lotus 1-2-3:
80286
That got me going. My PC's:
80386 DX 33MHz
Pentium II 300MHz P6
Pentium 4
Core i7 920
Core...
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/?sort=generation
The site is good for looking up specs on individual GPU's. You have to do a manual spec comparison, and a manual price comparison. Good for raw data.
I like UserBenchmark for what I'm looking for. Particularly the "bang for the buck" option. That's how I shop these things anyway.
The Passmark site is good, but it's all raw data. I have to do the work to compare the cards I'm thinking of. While probably the best way to do it, I'm looking for...
We were sure it was unlocked before I started this adventure. OnePlus phones are typically locked to T-Mobile in the States, so it had to be unlocked in order to activate it on AT&T when she got it.
Oneplus has a Unlock Status check right in the settings, which we checked, so no need to insert a...
I agree. The MVNO I went with (Red Pocket) didn't bother with any prequalification. They just state that you need to have an unlocked GSMA phone to use their GSMA service. They use the IMEI when you activate, but that was not an issue in this case.
Update:
I decided not to bother playing with IMEI settings.
This is a Consumer Cellular problem. There was nothing wrong with the phone or IMEI. I activated it with another MVNO on the same network with no problem.
I suspect a robot problem: They have a list > Number is not on the list >...
This has been fascinating. I've learned something new.
I can certainly understand that if your trying to make money or do it for a job you would not want to waste time on an additional task that is of limited value. Carry on!
As a person who builds my rigs more as a hobby, and repair PCs as...
Interesting.
I asked the question here because in came up on another computer forum. The OP was being advised that testing was unnecessary by another long time member and that made me wonder.
I have always tested RAM on every new rig I build (and stress test too) just because - well - that's...
I have family members on my AT&T plan that I’m trying to move to a MVNO (Consumer Cellular). Everything is normal procedure on 3 of the phones, but one OnePlus 8 phone is showing as not compatible with their system when I enter the IMEI to order the SIM card to start this process.
I want to...
