We are people who have followed this project for far longer than you have...
There is a specific target market for this case. You clearly do not lie within it.
No. The HDPLEX (and I assume similar boards) need to have active cooling of some kind. In the A4 prototype this was achieved with two fans. Passively cooled the board can only go up to around 250W, especially in a cramped case.
Also having the brick inside would be a pain. It is quite large...
Since nobody is going to do any calculations with this "size comparison", the fact that there are different sizes of coke can is fairly irrelevant, as they are all very similar; within 45ml of each other. Everybody knows how big an "average" coke can is, and the purpose of a size comparison is...
I don't think that's worth it for this case. Alternatives to that method exist, and the main advantage of going HDPLEX/similar is that you can make a case smaller; however the Hadron being quite large doesn't really make it as suitable (lots of people dislike the bricks).
Q701s here. I went to some lengths trying to find an amp for my needs. Like Phuncz, I wanted mine to be portable, and didn't necessary like having to have another box on my desk.
It turns out that some of the "USB-stick" DAC/amps are pretty good. In particular, the Meridian Explorer, the...
The case is not going to be mainstream. The NCASE is not mainstream, neither is this. That's just how things are; this case is clearly aimed at a niche segment of the market.
I don't know man... Compared to the 750 ti and even the 950 (which notably does not have an LP release), the Nano seems a lot more demanding to fit on such a small PCB with a smaller fan.
Look up his facebook; NFC systems. He's got a new design called the S4, which apparently takes the best of both designs. It is being released "soon", but then again, the S3 was at one point releasing "soon".
It was never released.
The AbleHD was a kickstarter project that brought 15" portable HDMI monitors. They were supposed to be bringing out a successor, however no word has been heard for a very long time.
Ok, so I want to bring up something that's been talked about a bit so far, which is the size of the case.
Does the size of a case primarily intended for use as an HTPC / Steam Machine really matter that much?
Now, when it comes to a desktop case, I like it small as the next guy does. That's...
Awesome. How frequent are the spikes though?
Another route as I mentioned before is HDPlex's square 160W power board, which is similar in size to the Pico. It takes a 19V input, so higher wattage power bricks will be useful. All that's left to be found out is if the actual power board is as...
Unfortunately that would probably also jack up the price a whole lot too. Zotac's machine is $999 last time I checked, and that's the steam machine version without windows (which I assume is a little cheaper).
One of the Alpha's major selling points is its low price, as the base config -...
You are being very short sighted. Even if he offers his design, I doubt any of these "proper case manufacturers" would even want it. This is not saying anything about the quality of the case, but more about the risk with this kind of radical design that a manufacturer would not want to take...
If you actually calculated the volume properly, the Lone Industries L3 is 4.5L, making the Silverstone case over 2.5L larger. That is more than 50% larger than the L3.
Think about that. The Silverstone case takes more than 50% more volume to achieve what is essentially the same purpose as the...
Maybe some people don't want to use standard length high-end GPUs, but I'd say that the vast majority do.
If you want to go with an ITX length GPU for high end gaming, you've realistically got two choices: a short GTX 970 or a R9 Nano, which isn't even out yet.
As well as the "default" A4, there's also that steambox design, and I'm pretty sure he said he wanted to do something along the lines of a thin-ITX uSFF case... :P
Cool. Pretty small design at 6.1L. But have you taken into account the space needed for the PCIe riser on the GPU? It looks like the PSU gets in the way.
