On a networking standpoint - how much bandwidth does each IP cam consume?
Im wondering if I should get a DVR solution instead. since we connect from the office we are wanting to put cameras up wirelessly to another building that way it would only use up 1 network cable, and hopefully less...
Ive decided against the windows updates, they pretty much auto update.
Main important things are tracking users (very very important) and traffic shaping, and vpn in the near future.
Think pfsense is the way I am gonig to go, just need to figure how the computer specs, thinking of just using a core 2 duo with 2 intel nics and call it a day.

Not worth it?
I like those options, ill have to go through the suggestions and pick one.
Never thought of the gigabit....guess out of habit wanted it all to be the same, lol
Id like to just give this thing back and switch to MFP to buy, seems to be plenty around the 500 dollar mark. This one is currently networked via hp print server, and it sucks. horribly.
Need it to Print, Scan, Fax, Copy.
Network - Gigabit
Hold 50-500 pages
Mono Color.
Under 600
Used in a small office of about 25 computers.
Easy to setup on windows 7 machines (our printer now is a TASK to setup)
Print less than 1500 pages a month, if you need any other info just...
Have a building with about 8 users that shares a connection with another office (wirelessly) with another 5 people.
Im looking to do the following.
Monitor traffic - and keep a log
Block websites, block access to outside network on certain machines at certain times
Antivirus firewall...
Cant go that route, other building is across the road.
3x faster I think ill just go this route, The cad files and such are pretty big to move back and forth.
But - it wont be cobbled together anymore, so sure itll be just fine. Just looking for something thatll be good for a few years.
Anything any quicker? Guess I don't understand it very well figure something quicker than 150mbps has to be available?
Ive got about 600 to spend. Line of sight, about 750 feet or so.
I seen one that Ubiquiti offered that was near 300 mpbs. But not sure if that was actually quicker.
Building A gets the internet, will house the pfsense box, and has about 8 clients using the network (very little outside connectivity, they have a nas with cad drawings and other important files
The hardware in building A goes Modem, pfsense, which then goes to WRT54g with a directional...
Very nice. Ill be ordering 6 mini domes, and 6 bullets (well, non PTZ cams) and probably doing one of the linux nvr options.
That empire security looks to be good pricing.
The general idea should be roughly the same.
This would work just fine as we need internet in that office anyways. (trailer)
I just cant find a decent ip cam to go with, nor an idea on how to easily get to the camera via the web. maybe a camera with built in web server (dynamic dns or...
Im looking for a decent res IP cam solution that We can put up at our construction site, and have it on the web to see whats going on.
Ideally, it would be 720p, an outdoor PTZ.
The site has a internet connection, not sure if we will have a router in place or not.
I just need it to be...
