Is it possible to use Creative DSP while using S/PDIF out? (SBZ)

I think what I was thinking of specifically was CMSS-3D (I vaguely remember it now from my days of owning X-Fi cards but just completely eluded me until I finally stuck the right search terms into Google). So that's only available over Dolby/DTS etc.? After some googling it seems it was renamed...

Is it possible to use Creative DSP while using S/PDIF out? (SBZ)

I finally did hear back from Creative support, this is what they said: I'm not 100% certain if "digital audio effects" = DSP (heck I'm still unsure of how much and in what ways of a difference DSP even makes for gaming purposes), but using that option to enable stereo mix to the digital output...

Is it possible to use Creative DSP while using S/PDIF out? (SBZ)

Any chance there any sound cards that will? Or is Creative DSP something I'll even particularly miss during gaming sessions? (Particularly with headphones, but with 2.1 as well)

Is it possible to use Creative DSP while using S/PDIF out? (SBZ)

I bought a Schiit stack recently, but from what I can tell, when I use optical out on my Sound Blaster Z (Win 10) it just passes the sound through, because I'm no longer able to control the audio at all with the SBZ control panel. I'm not actually positive if this means the card is no longer...

    Spectre x360 13t/Yoga 920 or wait for 8700HQ?

I've been debating getting one of these for the last week or so, reading as much information as I can find about both of them. Basically looking for an ultraportable 2-in-1 with a decent keyboard and build quality. I've checked them both out in person and they both appear to be pretty much right...

Importance of sticking to QVL lists with Ryzen?

Well, that answers my question pretty nicely then, thanks. Besides video editing I'll be doing a fair bit of multitasking (managing websites and client lists etc.) but nothing I imagine I'd notice a difference having faster RAM with.

Importance of sticking to QVL lists with Ryzen?

From what I can gather the G.Skill DDR4-3200 cas 14 sticks are non-Flare X / Fortis memory known for having Ryzen compatibility, but at $350 the cost is pretty insane. I wish I could find a decent compromise probably around DDR4-3000 cas 15 that's on any of the QVL lists or at least known to be...

Importance of sticking to QVL lists with Ryzen?

Yeah, filling all the DIMM slots is never my first choice, but I thought it might be a little less worrisome since (I forgot to mention) I won't be OC'ing this rig given its going to be a machine for the office. Still, I'll do my best to avoid it. I haven't seen any Flare X in 32GB kits faster...

Importance of sticking to QVL lists with Ryzen?

Building a video editing (Premiere Pro) rig for the office, having trouble narrowing down RAM selection. Likely looking at getting one of the MSI B350 boards (B350 Gaming Pro or Tomahawk) or the Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming because of their support for higher rated RAM speeds. However, the QVL list...

HiVi D1080-IV worthwhile upgrade from Klipsch Promedias?

For some strange reason I've never been a huge fan of bass, but yeah, if I decide I do want a sub I can add one later. Someone on Head-Fi also brought these to my attention. Supposedly they would be better than the Swans if I do wind up getting an amp with pre-outs.

HiVi D1080-IV worthwhile upgrade from Klipsch Promedias?

Just discovered HiVi and Audioengine brands - never realized there were companies that actually made higher end powered satellite speakers. So it got me interested in finally upgrading from my Klipsch Promedias (note that the sub isn't really that important for me). I have a Sound Blaster Z...

    6700K OC - high temps?

I really did that just as an experiment, I was curious what the difference in temps would be between LLC 5 and 6. It's pretty huge. Now I know I at least have some headroom to raise the vcore.
  13. S

    6700K OC - high temps?

Well, I tried going down to LLC 5, but P95 blend failed within 1-2 minutes (even if P95 is overkill for stress testing, I'd say that's a bad sign). So instead of raising LLC back up to 6 I tried 1.35V with the same results. Raised LLC back up to 6 and P95 ran for 30 minutes before encountering...

    6700K OC - high temps?

You're right, I read the description in the BIOS backwards. I thought it was odd that 1 would be the max. What would be a more appropriate average LLC for these chips? Many of the recommendations I found for ASUS boards recommended 5-6, which is actually what led me to trying 6.

    6700K OC - high temps?

I was under the impression that 1 is max LLC and 8 is minimum on ASUS boards?

    6700K OC - high temps?

Have a 6700K and a MAXIMUS VIII HERO cooled by a Noctua NH-D15S (with second fan) and MX-4. Case is a Corsair Air 540 with 5x Fractal Design HF-14. Using 2x16GB G.Skill TridentZ DDR4-3200 Cas 14 (1.35V). I initially tried 1.325v in manual mode (with an LLC setting of 6), FCLK set to 1000, and...

    Civilization VI Announced

I love how AI civs found cities right next to you then immediately complain about you having too big of a military presence near their borders (something I think the AI is too sensitive to to begin with, I can have a whole two units nearby and still get those complaints).

140mm case fans: Noctua NF-A14 vs Phanteks PH-F140SP vs Fractal Design HF-14?

Noctua NF-A14 PWM 115.5 - 140.2 m3/h | 19.2 - 24.6 dBA Phanteks PH-F140SP 82.1 CFM | 19 dBA Fractal Design Venturi HF-14 118.2 CFM | 26.5 dBA I plan on getting a Corsair Air 540, and need to get some fans to go with it. Either two fans to supplement the Corsair AF140's that come with it, or...

    Civilization VI Announced

Well, yes, but by armada I mean three aircraft carriers on the same tile. I just kind of assumed each could hold two. EDIT: Or maybe you mean there might be promotions for armadas that are say, stronger than fleets and single units? Hadn't thought of that but doesn't look like I'm going to use...

Samsung 960 PRO and 960 EVO Details and Specifications

Eek. I was planning on going with the 1TB 960 Evo, but if it's that far out I'll probably just go with an 850 Evo, which is maybe what I should be doing anyway.

    Civilization VI Announced

Thanks. It still happens in cities with spies and positive amenities, but I guess the AI probably still has a chance to sabotage. EDIT: Maybe I'll try putting the spies directly in the industrial zones - though I know they've been at least adjacent.

The other thing: is there a reason all the buildings in my industrial district are constantly finding themselves needing repair? Is there something you can do to prevent that or is it just something you have to deal with? EDIT: Made peace, now the guy who declared war on me is calling me a...

    Civilization VI Announced

I'm totally confused about the warmongering status in my current game. Around turn 400, Saladin declared a Holy War on me, and suddenly everyone thinks I'm a warmonger. I haven't declared war on anyone the whole game, and I haven't even been part of a war in like 100 turns. So someone else...

    Case with best (air) cooling?

Yeah, I've been very tempted by that case too. What are some good 140mm case fans to go with these things? I'm aware of some pretty good 120mm's, but never used all that many 140's. Noctuas?

    Case with best (air) cooling?

The cheapest FT02 I see (appears they're hard to find these days) is $250 on Amazon + 6% sales tax. Compared to the FT05 for $160 at Newegg (no tax, plus a $15 MIR). Worth paying the extra $100?

    Case with best (air) cooling?

I was reading somewhere that blower-style GPU coolers are better for those rotated motherboard cases, is that true? My GTX 1080 FTW has twin fans. Probably not a huge deal.

Z170 boards for OCing and possible 7700K compatibility?

Since I have to build a system now I'm going with a 6700K, but I'm likely going to buy Microcenter's $30 warranty plan which will essentially let me bring the 6700K back and exchange it for a 7700K by paying any difference. I'd have 2 years to do it but I'd probably do so as soon as release + my...

    Case with best (air) cooling?

The Define S appears to have the same problem as the EVGA and Air 740 in having no optical bay drives. I can work around that if I really need to, but all things equal I'd rather have the bays. I actually used to have a HAF X many years ago. Did its job pretty well, but I got tired of the epic...

    Case with best (air) cooling?

I'm highly debating going back to air (or a closed loop system) for the current build I've been planning. I've been trying to figure out what cases these days provide the best cooling, but a lot of reviews I've been looking at don't test thermal performance, and some that do only include a...

    Civilization VI Announced

I wouldn't bother too much with BE, it's not unplayable after the first expansion but it really has nothing at all on Civ 6 (or even Civ 5: BNW). The game really needed more development time and perhaps another expansion. I seriously doubt they'll touch it again in terms of new content, but if...

    Civilization VI Announced

Well, the game's been out 3 days and I've somehow put 30 hours into it already. Despite some frustrations it definitely has me hooked. I have to say it's the first vanilla Civ game I can remember playing that has enough features to feel full-fledged enough to feel like it's not a vanilla Civ...

    Civilization VI Announced

I did a double take when I heard Sean Bean's voice. Went and googled it to make sure it was who I thought it was but I was pretty sure. It has been kind of hard to keep AI's happy. On the same turn I'll have AI's complain that my army is too big another that my army is too small. Or that I'm...

    Civilization VI Announced

I haven't had a problem finding room to build, even on a small map with three more civs than normal and high sea level. It is pretty silly there's no in-game option to adjust the number of city-states though.

    Civilization VI Announced

I feel like it runs better than Civ 5 did when it was first launched, but that's hardly a direct comparison since I'm not playing on the same system as I was in 2010. I'm enjoying it so far, outside of some quirks / little annoying things and a few crashes.

Been playing for the past few hours. One thing I don't understand is the barbarians - I've tried a couple games now and they're beyond raging. Case for 420-size rads, ~$150?

Whoa. I probably won't ever need all that space, but that should more than work. And I could probably load it up with tons of fans, albeit quiet ones if I'm actually going to use that many.

    Case for 420-size rads, ~$150?

I have an NZXT Switch 810, which I don't believe is particularly known for its thermal performance. I got it originally for its known compatibility with my rad - a Swiftech H2O-320 Edge HD, which I believe takes up a bit more space than a normal 360 due to the space the built-in res occupies...
