the photos are taking standing on top of my bed, so the room is actually fairly big - it's just a sink in there, there's no toilet/shower and it's NOT a prison cell!!!
i'll make some pictures of the other side of the room seeing as everyone is so interested! xD
Ikea galant t-leg + half round extension piece + a monitor stand I made from an extension top + Capita 16mm legs.
Effektiv cupboards + grundtal lighting. Pretty pleased with it, quality of surface is yet to be tested though, although it looks a bit fragile :(
the Antec 1200 has 12 5.25" bays, so if you use 4 * 4-in-3 bay adaptors you can get 16 drives in there! but it's a pretty large case
alternatively, the Fractal Design R3 is fairly small and has 8 x internal 3.5" bays and a few 5.25"
It's my bedroom, the picture are taken standing on the bed! For some reason someone installed a sink in the room ... although it's useful because I live in a big house with a few other people so it's good to be able to brush teeth etc. without clogging up the main bathroom
Yeah, unfortunately it needs 1.4v, its not a brilliant clocker. I reduced it to 1.385v and it wasnt prime stable :(
I'll check the PWM stuff out, see if he can hook the fan up to another header.
I upgraded my friends pc with an ATI 5770 graphics card, and he only had an e4400 CPU and didnt have enough money to upgrade, so I overclocked it to 3ghz.
Problem is, the load temps were really bad, 60c idle, sometimes up to 90c when testing in intelburntest so I had a look at the HSF (intel...
I am yes, but im not too worried about it. Any really critical data is already backed up elsewhere anyways. Plus if I lost more than 1 drive, you only lose the data that was on the drive that actually failed, as its not striped. So I think if you want a very large amount of storage at a low...
The main thing I would worrry about is making sure your drives are going to be cooled well.
The antec 200 would probably be a good choice, you can have 6 hard drives in the front cooled by 2x 120mm fans. Also you can hot swap a drive in the front :D
RAID0 will boost your performance by allowing you to read and write to both drives at once. It will also give you the ability to use the capacity of both drives as if it were one big drive, so you'd get a single 1280GB space to play with.
On RAID0, the data is "striped" between the 2 drives, so...
I would have a look at unRAID, it's great for media servers. It's a NAS linux distro with some clever software RAID. You can use any combination of drives/connections as long as you have the biggest drive for parity, and you can upgrade/change drives in the future without difficulty. The only...
I've actually decided to switch to unRAID, it provides the best compromise for me.
It gives me redundancy against a first drive failing, but also means that I wont lose the whole array's data if other drives are lost, just what's on the drive. Obviously its not as fast, and hogs a whole system...
I'm not sure if it would be or not. I mean I understand how it works outside of WHS with volumes etc, but i'm new to the WHS storage pool concept. Say if I just set up a share, is that a spanned volume? Can the share be larger than the size of 1 drive?
Yeah I understand that much, i'm going to duplicated my documents, pictures etc, but it's the unduplicated stuff i'm worried about. Basically what i'm trying to do is minimise the amount of DVDs I have to re-rip, etc.
Hello all, seeing as there's a lot of WHS users on here I thought i'd fire off a question
Say I have a WHS, with a couple of drives in the storage pool. I set up a share for videos, and the share is very large and therefore spans several drives. What happens if one of these drives fails...
I cant do raid6 as my controller doesn't support it :( Seems like I might be better off dumping the raid and going for windows home server storage pool instead. At least then the damage will be limited. What happens if a drive dies in windows home server?
The data on the drives is not critical, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I lost it (all my important work is backed up off site).
But basically what I need to know is, if one drive fails, and I replace, will rebuilding the raid kill it?!
I went for WD myself because they have the best RMA in Europe from my experience. They can send you a new drive out before you send in your broken one, you have to give credit card details but as long as you return it within 30 days they dont charge you.
Hi guys
I just built this system

I'm happy with it, but when I showed it to my friend, he mentioned that if a drive failed, that when I replaced it and tried to rebuild the array, the array might fail due to an "unrecoverable read...

Great review HowzThat. I'm a big fan of this monitor, and think its absolutely unbeatable for the price. Image quality/accuracy is on par with the LP2475W i had before it, and gaming/multimedia performance is MUCH better, Also the cable management is a lot better and the stand doesnt take up...
Im buying a nice amp and set of speakers (about £500/$800 worth) and I want a good sound card to go with it. Gaming performance/features etc arent really an issue for me, even though I game a lot i've never really seen the attraction of EAX etc. The main focus for me is the best audio quality...
