I always find item 4 to be an interesting point.
Yes, nVidia were numbskulls and attempted to do something that seemed dishonest. But any company put into a position like nVidia was where they had a clearly better product, and the consumer responded by making them the market leader by buying...
I've ran Windows 7 on many different hardware configurations and let me say this, I'm seriously wanting to cry foul on these 'minimum' requirements.
I had issues with Windows 7 on older, DirectX 9 compatible graphics cards, even after disabling Aero. A video card even as recent as a 6800 GT...
I've been beating my head against a wall for the past few days trying to decide between two 260 GTX or two 285 GTX for a new build I've got going on.
I've seen Hot Deals for the 216 core 260's the past few days where I can get both cards for about $360 whereas the 285's are running about $325...
Looks like that management decision to layoff experienced employees for lower paid ones back in 2007 really worked out. I personally hated going to Circuit City stores after that decision was made. I always felt like I was walking into a fast food restaurant, not a high dollar...
When you're saying it wasn't recognized, do you mean it just wasn't showing up in the list of available drives during Vista setup? Did you try and load any drivers for the device it was connected to (motherboard, raid controller, etc)?
I've had issues myself on SB750 systems where if I don't...
In some ways I really like Apple; but when it comes down to creative ways for a company to nickle and dime you, they are the King.
I still haven't paid the $9.99 to upgrade my iPod touch to version 2 of the software. And now they want to charge me for this? Pfft.
I didn't get that impression at all. He sounds like an average joe that knows enough about computers to get himself into trouble with Linux.
But to each his own. :)
Sorry, but I disagree. The average computer user knows nothing about boot loaders, partitions (active or otherwise), and many other basic concepts us computer geeks take for granted. Most people can't navigate through a DOS like interface to save their lives. This is one of the primary reasons...
I've tried moving to Linux as my primary OS about 10 times over the past 2 years. Every time I try I'm always limited by:
DRIVERS!
Protected mode video drivers - If you like the latest & greatest, it takes forever for a good video driver to be released. My last experience trying to find...
I've had similar issues before that almost always ended up being an incompatible/bad drivers.
I previously had an ECS mainboard that was built for XP. Well, when I upgraded to Vista, ECS released drivers but that damn machine never worked worth a damn. Stutters, blue screens, corrupt file...
Imagine you're navigating through a deep undersea trench. You enter the command to turn 3° to port, and you get the little circular Vista mouse pointer and your system just hangs there....not responding.
Ugh. I think I'd mutiny if I was boarding a submarine and at the hatch there was a 'Made...
To be honest, that's my primary reason for supporting AMD right now. I think nVidia showed us over the past couple of years a prime example of what happens when there's a clear, top of the line product with no competition. Prices skyrocket, price fixing with vendors begins, and the only people...
