I suspect the motherboard is non-operational ... no way to test it now ... but the reason my friend built a new system is that this old MB would not post.
Thanks to all ... anyone want a free i7 chip and intel cooler? :)
Hi and Thank you ahead of time.
I have taken apart a friends Dell XPS computer and found the i7-930 chip mentioned above as well as an ati 5770 VC. Are these worth any money these days?
He built himself a new system and I have an i5 -4670 K so we have no use for them.
Just asking.
I had Win 7 on my old machine and when I bought a new gaming rig I bought Win 8 and hated it ... But after a while and Win 8.1 I grew to be okay witht Win 8.1. The tiles bother me every once in a while but I use the desktop most of the time. For me Win 8.1 is stable and runs all the software...
I posted earlier about using Kingston HyperX Fury and HyperX DDR3 memory together. I thought I had bought another 2x4GB of identical Kingston HyperX black to match what I have in my computer. I actually bought Kingston HyperX Genesis. Same number except the Genesis model has an X at the end and...
Thanks for replying ... I had a hard time finding my original ram but I eventually did and ordered the KHX HyperX C9 version. This, I hope, should be completely compatible with my ram. Must be an older version as vendors do not seem to be carrying it in stock.
Hello,
Got a question about Kingston Ram. I bought 2 x 4G of KHX1600C9D3K2 ram a year ago. I want to increase to 16G by buying another 2 sticks of the same. Unfortunately it has all been B/O and may not be available for a while. Could I use Kingston HX316C10FBK2/8? Would the different C9 vs...
Thank you ... however I am in Canada ... I do not think that price would hold up and I think I would have to pay shipping ...
Living North of the Border does have its downside!

Thanks all ... I will wait a bit to see if the GTX970's come down a little in price and then I will replace my 760 with one. The price where I am for a GTX970 is still around $400.
I am thinking of putting some more video hp into my system. I was originally going to double up on my GTX 760 at about $250 Canadian, however I have read so many good things about the GTX 970 (about $440) that I am considering purchasing it instead. I have single monitor running at 1900 x 1200...
My son surfs the net and games on the computer. It is an older system (~ 5 years old) with the power supply seeing about 3 years of hard use in other systems. I repeat that I do want to put a lot money into this system, but if is the PS then could I get by with a 500 W one or do I need a 600 W...
Hope you can help. My son's computer won't turn on. I get a green LED light on the motherboard. He said there was a squealing sound from the PS and then it just shut down. Tried to re-start and no luck. Waited over night and computer turn on and worked for a while then shut down again. This...
Same processor here ... used the 212 evo myself. I took my time, did a couple of dry runs with no thermal paste just cause I wanted to make sure I had it down pat before I applied the paste. Everything went well. Temps are great especially when I installed two fans in a push-pull configuration.
Thanks for your reply.
Although I see the CPU Opt fan in ASUS Suite III Fan expert. there is no way, that I can see, that will allow me to adjust the CPU Opt. I can fully adjust the "normal" CPU fan. I do have the latest BIOS rev and the ASUS Suit III version as well.
I will try to get a...
Hope you can help me.
I have ASUS Z87-A motherboard paired with a i5-4670K and a Cooler Master 212 evo cpu cooler. I had just one fan on the cooler and had temps of around 30o C. I decided to put a second fan on the cooler in a push-pull configuration to hel keep temps low from on a 4.2 GHz...
i5 4670K CPU, using ASUS Z87-A, Cooler Master EVO 212 cooling, used ASUS suite to overlclock to 4.5 GHz, but scaled id down to 4.3 GHz on adaptive. I did not test using prime but seems stable.
Temps are at 29oC at idle as measured by RealTemp and ramp up to 60oC during games.
Voltage...
Temps are around 55 - 60oC while gamiing. It has down clocked while gaming, but also at other non-gaming times. I know it goes into 2d mode, but it won't go back up to 648 MHz when it is supposed to. It says at 440 MHz until I re-start the computer. Iknow this happens during a game cause I say...
I have an eVGA 285 that is randomly down-clocking to 400 MHz from 648 MHz as monitored by eVGA Precision. The only way to re-set the clock speed is to re-boot the computer. Sometimes it will go for days without the down-clocking, sometimes only a few hours.I have a life time warrenty with eVGA...
Could I use this card as a physics card and would I see any real benefits in my gaming FPS?
I play BF2BC and Microsoft flight Sim X (as well other new flight sims when they come out such as SOW:BoB) on a 19 x 12 24" monitor?
Thanks ahead of time
I had a similar problem with my original EVGA GTX280. I had "soft" shut downs at first and then had hard shut down (BSOD). I RMA my card and then sent me a new GTX285. All smiles right ... nope 2 weeks later problem returned. I sent back my ypower supply (got a new one). Problem was still there...
Well I hope this is the right place to post this.
First some history: I bouight my system last year and it ran flawlessly for 10 months. Then the computer statrting crashing to a multi-pixel screen upon playing CODWAW and COD4. After one such crash the computer would not re-boot. I RMA the...
Just a quick note to say that EVGA is a great company to deal with. My GTX280 went bad after about a year of use. RMA to EVGA and got a brand new GTX285 as a replacement an another life-time warranty. Total turn around time from them receiving my card to return to me was 4 days. I often hear...
Thanks for all the responses. I have already re-installed CODWAW but I will try to install it again. I used the this site and forum when I built my machine and have been please in general with all the info here.
I think my best bet is to switch to CODMW2 when it comes out. (Infinity Ward...
I have the rig stated in my signature for about a year now. I use my machine to surf internet, do lots of word processing, and play a lot of FPS including COWWAW. About two months ago while I was playing on line on CODWAW my computer froze and the screen showed nothing but static multiple pixels...
Hi,
I have been doing a lot of reading on this forum and I about to pull the trigger on a new machine. I am concern about buying the current CPU's when a new chip is coming that will require a new MB and DDR3 to run.
This will be my first build in a very long time. I mostly game with FPS...
