I am game for anything that works similarly to what we had with F@H., If that means keeping with F@H despite the issues, then so be it. If it means going WCG or GPUGrid I am game as well for those. My first choice is F@H. Just my $0.02.
Interesting.... I just popped on here to see what the old team was doing and I see this? Relic? No way. It's been a long time. I haven't borged in a long time. :o Too damn busy with life.... that and the wife would kill me if I put up anymore hardware [2 VMWare servers and a total of 32...
You're not the only one.... Used to be up there myself a LONG time ago... had like 30 machines borged... now I am down to two new laptops. Need some cheap boxen. ;)
I would assume 4-8 GB would be good as I seem the SMP client operates well @ 1 GB per core. Disk wise, gree, blue or black WD? I know hard drive prices are up so I will have to find a used drive for this part.
What can I expect in terms of PPD on such a rig? Thanks for helping an old...
Yes, it's good to urge on the young whippersnappers here. :D
I am looking for a way to sneak in some new folding boxes in the guise of 'lab' machines.
For now my budget is pretty low. I would like to spend less than $500 a box. Don't worry about software licenses I have that covered.
As a side note, anyone every done F@H on their ESX server? What did you find was trhe best combo of Client OS (Windows 7? 2008?) and what did you assign...
Hmmm... Now that I stirred up the pot... I need to up my own contributions. I just literally installed the client on my laptops... figured I needed to get off my own a$$.
So, what's a good folding box on the cheap? I want to replace two of my old lab PCs with a more current PCs. I want to...
I thought this was supposed to be the number one team in folding..... Have I been gone too long? Where the heck is Relic! Do we need to get the dang Mojo out on the newbies on the team?!?
Yeah, I'm back. Not as strong as I used to be, but here. Don't expect too many posts as my current...
Sounds like a bunch of whipper snappers to me. ;)
I just borg'd the kids PC. 3 cores of Folding goodness for as long as they leave it on. Which for now, won't be much, but it's better than nothing. :D
It is good to hear from you guys again. I felt like I was getting old... well. I am...
...... I dunno, four years? I've put up a pathetic little box for now as a start to maybe more.... A sorry little dually MP2800 from a LONG time ago. It's all I have to spare at the moment. Maybe I can convince the wife to let me keep the kids PC on 24x7. Nice tricore AMD with 4 Gb RAM...
I just built one about 3 months ago:
single quad core E5410 (dual quad capable)
6 Tb of drives[SATA], 4 Tb usable (RAID1 and RAID5)
40 Gb of RAM (128 Gb capable)
RAID controller with 128 Mb cache and battery backup
Running ESX 3.5 with 20-30 VMs. Need more spindles/controllers + RAM...
I am looking at a high end motherboard by Asus, its the "ASUS DSEB-D16/SAS" motherboard. There is a ZCR (Zero Channel RAID) slot that can be used to bump it to hardware RAID. Now, it lists the LSI MegaRAID 8300XLP card as a compatible card. Can you use any other card or do you have to match...
Yes there is, I cannot confirm if you can actually buy it or not. The card is called a "ASMB3/iKVM card" and it fits in the boards SODIMM socket. There is a RJ45 port on the board to hook up it to a switch for iKVM. I believe its like a GUI interface that HP servers use called iLO. There is...
I've seen on the various forums on ESX people that are using this motherboard, so I am not too woried about ESX or ESXi. The key thing will be do I get mutliple RAID cards. What are your feelings on any speed benefit? I know that I am limited to 6 drives using the motherboard. So I figure I...
I was thinking about going with 500 Gb drives anyways. Now I am going to start with 2 mirrored pairs off the motherboard using one of those ZCR (Zero Channel RAID) cards and then add another 8 drives over time in mirrored pairs. I will add a second RAID card in the middle so I can split all...
I pretty much will be VM'ing Exchange 2007, Windows 2008 and a whole bevy of Windows products. I really want to set up multiple CCR clusters with 03 and 08 OS's. The goal is ultimately do 16-20 VMs. Since I know RAM is my limitation, I will be doing 8 - 10 max with the 16 Gb.

Haven't posted to HardForums in years, but I know this is the place to go. I am looking to build a whitebox ESX beast. I have parts picked out, which will allow a good initial start and allow for lots of expansion. Here is what I have in mind:

I read blowing Moosie and thought I had to respond. Then I realized it was just my dirty mind and that he was blowing PAST the Moosie. :D
So is this at least a reach around or a reach through?
Just put into a cart, plugged in my ZIP code and WOW! $65 for shipping. So, that's a REAL deal....... not!
Notice that the monitor is also an "Off Lease" which means its not new. You can get a 21" from any place dumping monitors for around $100......
Just my $0.02.
I bought it just for grins and I recieved no download link. I bugged their tech support and here is there response:
"This product was created in error and doesn't exist. It was a test product. We have refunded your product so that you may purchase the correct product from our website."
Not sure if I am seeing things correctly, but it looks like the power cable from the PSU has 12 "plugs" and my motherboard has 10. This picture here shows the size of the power plug. Looks elongated compared to my other one. Any idea if this would be an issue? Thanks.
I have had 2 Enermax PSUs die in the past 3 years. One was 3 years old, the other was 2. I am looking to upsize my current PSU for my main unit from 431 to 500 Watts. Any idea of the AX500-A (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104934) by the FSP Group is any good? I have...
