    Reuse old PSU?

It's 8 years old or so. I've had three from that era, all still crank. Those things were beasts. At this point, the cost of the rest of the rig probably warrants a new psu along with it, even though this will be a lower power user (no big video card, no spinning drive platters, etc.)

    Reuse old PSU?

I have an Enermax 720w PSU (modular) that's been a workhorse for me for years. I'm in the middle of planning a new build, and I'm considering dropping it in the new box. It's quiet and has been rock solid for so long, I'm wondering if it's nuts to consider reusing it. I'm not expecially...

New 1150 Mobo - Onboard graphics?

It is overkill, I agree, but where this will effectively be the only real box in the house (non-tablet, laptop or phone), I'd like it to be the flagship, and be able to hand future utility expansion. You're right on the graphics. I'll be taking the same strategy with sound for now, as it...

New 1150 Mobo - Onboard graphics?

I'm in the process of planning for a new household rig that will be storage for all family photos, movies etc., personal files, music, etc. I'd like it to operate as a secure cloud server for my family's mobile (music, videos, etc.) and everything else going on in our lives. I'll have the...

    New Build, Old PSU?

Full disclosure, this is my first build in years. I'm still getting up to speed on where technology has gone over the past 4-5 years. I'm about to rebuild my HTPC into a central box for the home. It will perform some minor HTPC duties (will not be a TV Tuner/DVR) but will primarily serve as...

Enermax Infiniti 720- Beeping, red light... no power! HELP!

I have this same exact issue. After 14 months of perfect operation, PC crapped out one night (beeping woke me up). I've tried trouble shooting, but nothing's working, so I'm guessing somethings wrong with the PSU. Did your new unit work okay, paco?

    Globalsign vs Verisign

A standard certificate at Verisign is like $700 for 256bit encryption, with the same ubiquity. Global sign's offer is $200 for the same cert, although I can use one certificate for multiple servers, which on Verisign it's 1 : 1. He also said the root strength is 2048 rather than Verisign's...

    Globalsign vs Verisign

Anyone using these guys for security certificates? They're pricing out at a huge discount to Verisign, and offer much better control. Budgets are tough, so I think there's some real savings here. They claim same root strength and ubiquity... Anyone have any info? zv

    Setting up a File/Game Server

Great post. I spent the weekend down in PA with my nephew, how is pretty well versed in the linux universe. He had a dual boot rig he let me screw around with and get comfortable with. I'm shocked at the user friendliness of the gui. it's excellent. Finding settings and the like was a...

Onboard Networking Dead - PCI adapter solution questions

To follow up, the Hawking works amazing, and even has a beta of wireless "n" for those in the early adopter camp (I'm just using b/g combo). THe unit is tiny (which is hard to tell from the pics) and the USB cord is nice and long. Signal is rock solid, pinned at full connectivity 100% of...

Onboard Networking Dead - PCI adapter solution questions

This is a server, so if the wireless capability isn't as advertised, I could revert to hardwired (although I'd rather not snake a cat5 cable around my office). My guess is the wireless will be fine. The router is in the same room. Any thoughts on the two products I posted in the OP...

Onboard Networking Dead - PCI adapter solution questions

So the onboard networking capability of my mobo is dead, and I want to use a PCI adapter to remedy. This will fit into my backup/FTP server, which is a boneyard s939 build. I'd like a card that has both wireless and RJ plug capability. Do they exist? I'm striking out finding anything like...

    Setting up a File/Game Server

having never built a linux box, how will I do for a first try? I was planning on using filezilla for the sharing, which has worked great in the past. the gaming restriction kind of stinks, but I can live without that. This box is a centralized backup for what has turned into way too many...

    Setting up a File/Game Server

I'm not planning on running linux. If anything, I'd force myself to by Home Server - but for FTP and file backup - I don't think it's necessary. Which parts won't work on XP home? I'd rather not spend any more money. This was a boneyard build, and required minimal new pieces (which is...
