I didn't say IPS didn't have its deficiencies either. LCDs are all about compromises. We were talking about color. TN panels have documented color shifting issues. On IPS panels you get black level shifting rather than color shifting.

I know trimming is considered ok by many people but I still don't like it. Their claws are an integral part with how they interact with objects and especially move around(jumping to high places they'll often use their claws to get a good hold), I don't like impairing them in any way.

You got a cat and knew the risks. Deal with it. Just like I have to deal with the scratches my cats made to my plasma. Don't do anything to their claws as that's like their fingers, you wouldn't want anyone cutting off your fingers would you.

CRT HDTVs are fine as they display 480i and 480p natively. I would recommend staying away from Samsung's CRT HDTVs as they have terrible geometry.

You're going to want to get a TV CRT. If possible get a Trinitron.

If you're going for an accurate look you're going to have to use a CRT or buy this expensive device.

Except it doesn't accept 3D through HDMI. If he's not going to want to hook up a PS3 or Blu-ray player through HDMI then it's a viable alternative.

The stand on the 700D is annoyingly small. I'm having to rest the monitor on two hardcover graphic novels in order to get it to a comfortable height. It's still a great value for a 120Hz gaming monitor with 3D and you shouldn't let that issue deter you.

I thought the EA231WMi was H-IPS 8-bit? According to this it uses an LM230WF2-SLA1 panel and tftcentral lists it as thought to be 8-bit.

From the pictures I've seen the EA232WMi is the same size as the EA231WMi. The NEC publicity blurb states the move to LED was done to reduce power consumption(which was already low on the EA231WMi at around 30W at normal brightness levels).
