That was what I thought at first as well, but benchmarks actually place the i7 over the same-model i5 by 12-18% depending on the application. It's not huge, but it's a reasonable increase. It also only actually costs about $100 to go from the i5 to the i7 in the 21a and 31a models - there aren't...
Hello there, I will do my best to keep it short.
I need you guys' help looking for a thin-and-light ultrabook.
===
I am thinking 11.6" or no more than 13.3". Highly prefer at least a 3rd gen i7 and 4 gigs of ram. 120gb SSD is fine and a 1920x1080 screen.
After some looking around, I...
Does anyone know of a good place to go where you can shop for ASUS products with customization? the
Zenbook (UX32VD) has every single option that I am looking for in an amazing form factor, but I can't find a website that has a decent listing of them. It appears to be just a crapshoot...
I found the following upgraded T430s laptop with lenovo for $1200. Near the upper end of my budget, but it has most of the hardware (and even the OS) that I wanted. It's even small, and lightweight.

Intel Core i7-3520M

Mostly Autocad as well. I took a look at the Vaio S-series... I'm not seeing a windows 7 option. I'm really not a fan of Windows 8, so those are probably out for me.
As you mentioned having yourself, and the person below suggested, I will take a look at the Lenovo setups now.
Hello, thank you for taking the time to look at post!
I had an 11.6" laptop that I recently got rid of because I'm looking to upgrade. I've done some shopping so I'm not asking you guys to do it all for me, I just haven't been able to find anything that really fits the bill.
This Samsung...
Don't worry, I'm not talking about a modern gaming laptop application like BF3 or anything like that. I'm talking more like: Rome total war... Knights of the old republic... Maybe sims 3 (on lower settings) for the lady... Stuff like that.
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read through my post. I will endeavor to be brief!
I'm getting bogged down in all of similar offerings of the notebook market. I'm looking for a portable notebook. At first, I thought I wanted a netbook, but my hands just feel too cramped on the...
Thank you for your advice! I started looking into the Z68 boards as well.
I see two of them in approximately the same price point as the P67 offerings, so I guess my initial conundrum is essentially the same:
Does the ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 do anything in particular to make it worth $30...
Hello there!
I'm working on a new PC build, and I've finally decided to make the jump to to Intel camp. The bulldozer was simply underwhelming. Anyway, before I get too far off track:

I'm going to be getting a 2600K
I've settled on an ASUS P67 board.
I'm trying to figure out...
I know it's somewhat debated, and I have done some reading on the subject, but I'm struggling to get a precise answer on the whole 1.5v versus 1.65v thing when it comes to SB.

That's a good thought though, I hadn't thought about shooting the gap and overclocking the larger set - silly...
(@ AQ_OC)Thanks for the prompt reply!
Not trying to discount your thoughts as they may well be true - but I just wanted to share my concerns and further the discussion.

While I would agree that quantity would be prime when talking about going from 2GB to 4GB, or even 4GB to 8GB... it...
Hello!
My question is pretty straightforward (With the following motherboard and processor combo) am I better off having:
A larger quantity of ram at a lower speed
or
A smaller quantity of ram at a higher speed
?
Prices are the same, timings are similar, the playing field is fairly...
Oh, wow, somehow in my research I hadn't seen anything that mentioned that. That's certainly peace of mind.
Thanks for sharing that! It helps me feel a lot more confident about messing with it!
Right, I was hoping that was the case, but this is a pretty decent price for a 4gb stick with those timings. I just wanted to do a little research and make sure i wasn't missing anything!
Thanks again!
So if I am understanding correctly then... Two of these could be properly installed to create a dual-channel solution, as long as the chipset provided for that application (which I assume all ddr3-capable motherboards are)?
I was looking at this stick of corsair ram, and I noticed that it said something to the effect of: "this module runs in single channel when installed individually."
Well, duh, it would by definition, wouldn't it?
Anyway, I was wondering then... How do I know/find out for sure if multiple...
Thank you all! I have decided to go with a 6950 after your information/advice. I am still somewhat on the fence about the unlocking... But knowing me and my habit of tweaking/overclocking things, I will probably give it a go when the time comes. There's a MSI reference card that I'm kind of...
Yeah, that's true, I forgot about the 5-5-5-15 being DDR2.
So if understand right, you want 7's for DDR3 if possible, but if you end up with a Cas of 9, it's not the end of the world.
I understand the concept of it... it's just one of those things that never seems to work out for me. My luck, i would be the 1% who got catostrophic failure =/
I will still consider it... but if I can, I'd still like to get some input on the 2 cards I mentioned.
Thanks!
Hello all,
I searched the forums, and was unable to find anything covering my specific question. However, I may have missed something; so I apologize in advance if I am repeating a question.
How much of a difference does RAM timing make?
All else being equal that is... voltage...
Hello all,
I'm working on a new build, and I am trying to navigate the mess that is now AMD's video card numbering system.
I think I have it narrowed down to these two cards.
I saw the Anandtech benchmark comparing them, and it looks like the 6950 was winning by a slim to moderate margin...
I hear what you're saying, and it's part of what's making it so hard for me, lol.
I normally shoot for the quality first, but the price discrepancy here is so great that I find myself compelled to explore the opportunities.
Don't mistake what I've been saying though, I'm definitely listening...
Thank you bAMtan2, I hadn't seen that link before. The benchmark comparisons are really helpful!
I also appreciate the other inputs on the OCZ parts. I was kind of tentative about them going into this, but it's good to have outside opinions.
The only reason I am even still considering the...
It's certainly not a decision-maker or breaker... but I am looking into picking up a 1080P (60P) camcorder in the next year or so (I realize a SSD of this size wouldn't do much for storage for something like that; I already have a 2TB USB 3.0 external) - and for editing that size of video I...
True enough, I just looked at the 320 because it was suggested above. I looked right over the SATAII because I assumed people were linking SATAIII parts (since all 3 of my links were). My apologies.
Both of the crucial offerings are interesting... the price is also rather high, but I am a...
How is the Intel high speed? I looked at them early on, but the Intel 320 Series is listing
Sustained Sequential Read Up to 270 MB/s
Sustained Sequential Write Up to 130 MB/s
Up to 38,000 IOPS random 4 KB reads; up to 14,000 IOPS random 4 KB writes
I mean, it's not terrible... but for $240...
I had seen the price reduction, but I didn't get the e-mail, as I haven't bought anything from the egg in a few months. If it's the revised drive, I might be very interested though. Hmm, decisions decisions.
**Edit** DURRR, I bought a Corsair PSU from them yesterday. Maybe I just missed it in...
Hello all,
I'm starting a new computer build.
I have been waiting in the wings to pick up a SSD to use as my main drive for a while now. I feel that the prices are getting to an acceptable level for my budget and needs. I've been reading up some and have my choices narrowed down to three...
Well, I'm not necessarily concerned with AMAZING performance... I'm just curious if I could do it?
I would prolly be getting a new computer before I get the cam anyway... but I'm just looking for a general feeling.
Alright, I kind of figured that this was the case. Thank you for confirming though.
How about the camera its self? From the reviews I have seen, it's generally agreed to be at least one of the top 5 consumer end camcorders right now (if not higher). The 60P is impressive, and the stills look to...
Thanks a ton for keeping the discussion going! I'm learning at least :)
What about this Panasonic? It's way out of my budget right now... but trying to get a general idea. From what I can tell, it says it records in 24P (even up to 60P if your editing machine can handle that) and takes 14.2MP...
