Do you mean the CMOS battery is leaking somewhere? or main?
When i replaced the cmos battery, it didn't work and then stop working, as I may suspect if there was leak, right? Is tha what you mean?
thanks a lot,
rlr
Hi, thanks for response...
unfortunately it is out of warranty... when I replaced the cmos battery, I did not reset +jumpers, I'm not exactly sure where they are on this machine. I'm sure I could find, but I bet they hard to get to, as is the cmos battery itself..
Thanks for the help...
hI,
Currently I am using my Sager 8690 Laptop, w/ ati 5800 gpu and intel 840-qm quad core.
the optical bay has been replaced with a 2nd hdd.
Problem: BIOS no longer holds memory of settings, date, and time. it resets to default setup everytime it does not have power.
I have...
Hey. Thanks for your response. I don't think is overheat issue, as it will do from right after being started, to hours later, whenever I try to play a game (crysis 2, Dirt 2, so far) it shuts down precisely when action starts, menus, and pre-rendered stuff works fine.
My laptop is set to not...
Really? No kidding, I should make a poll, perhaps, I'm very interested in this subject as it has been a regular practice of mine, starting with first vista release. Windows 7 though, particularly the app I'm using to do this with (RT7Lite), has proved more difficult than previous, and largely...
Hey, haven't posted in a while, but having issue,
Just reinstalled win7x64 ultimate on my laptop (sager8690, Q840, ATI HD 5870).
I've put a couple games on so far, each having same result, as soon as the game loads, my laptop shuts down, this is on Dirt2, and also crysis 2, so far....
thanks...
hey guys, thanks for responses,
The purpose was for a temporary xp install so i could use RSD Lite for Motorola Android phones, Windows 7x64, which is usually what is running has a hard time picking up driver for phone when in bootloader mode. Was able to use it several times succesfully...
I searched for this yesterday, ad nauseum, and could not find a solution, tried like several different approaches, "wintoflash", something using Bart'sPE, boot files placed on drive, something else, fat, fat16, fat32, ntfs. nothing worked, when i placed boot.ini, ntdetect, and ntldr on drive...
that is cool, although prob won't use it cuz I want something that will cover BR audio, but out of curiosity, would you use an dvi->hdmi cable, or is there a different conversion cable that would have an audio output on it?
thanks!
Great info, thanks a lot guys, saves me some audio card headaches, my 4870, only has dvi out, but want to get new vid card anyway, and this will streamline things more.
Cheers,
rlr
I'm looking for some clarity on this, doesn't have to be either of these cards, although I'll be getting something in the neighborhood, but HDMI output from video cards in general....
I currently have an asus xonar hdav1.3 which outputs hdmi for aud and vid. I'm outputting to a HD a/v...
Thanks,
I had found that 2.5" velociraptor under laptop section at Newegg, so i thought it might be a possibility.
re: SSD's; The read performance is very fast yes? But isn't write performance actually slower than a 7200 standard drive?
rlr
Is it possible to put 10k hdd, like velociraptor in a laptop? specifically the Sager 8690.
some 10k drives are sata III, but i didn't see that available in laptops, so that won't work, but idk if the 10k drive is possible or not?
Thanks!

Hi,
Yesterday I decided to move my desk around and subsequently ran into some cabling snags, one being a dvi port on gpu. I have dvi running to one smaller monitor on my desk, then dvi-hdmi to asus hdav1.3, followed by output to a/v receiver via hdmi, and from there to TV.
I didn't feel...
I have usb cables that came with a couple, can't remember if all, of my usb hdd enclosures that have, idk exactly what it is, some type of resistor, or something, the little cylindrical fitting that goes around cable next to plug, and I'm wondering what that accomplishes, and if it's necessary...
Hey thanks for reply,
first I tried connecting to different usb port directly on pc, was on hub, no go though, so unhooked one of the drives in my case temporarily and connected drive in question, booted up, and it showed up fine, so I formatted it, and then had to remove from case (well...
I just added a 640WDAAKS hdd back into my system. Last time I knew it worked fine, and it has not been used a lot. At first it showed up fine when I put it in my external usb enclosure, and I went to copy some files onto it. At this very moment as I just reinstalled mobo and was getting oc...
Answer- turns out I have bad pci-e x16 vid port. Figured this out after much testing, and finally calling asus. So now using 2nd vid port, for now, got an RMA to return mobo. Ironically I bought this board due to having to rma my dfi mobo.
Is it just me, or is the mobo always a frequently...
Hi folks,
So I'm in the middle of moving, and genius that I am, I decide it's a good time to tweak my OC. I was running my e8400 at 4G on my DFI mobo for idk, 12mos. or so, but that board currently has major probs and has been sent back to DFI. So I picked up this P5Q Dlx (open box) and am...
hey, thanks, yeah I'm the same way with equipment, i'm just tired of dealing with dfi, it would be easier to just buy new board, I have to anyway, since the rma is almost 2 months process. I could always sell it if it's working right then. so back to finding a board, I like the micro-atx idea...
cool, thanks....
i thought it would work that way, but that brings up a question for me. currently have a dfi lp-lt x48t2r that has a bad onboard sata controller, at least as far as I can tell. It will only recognize the boot drive, if you plug an additional drive in, every time it boots it...
so, you're saying just pull the drive out and hook it up via external enclosure, and scan right from my laptop, or possibly desktop? from desktop would be easier to just hook up, but I actually just picked up a 2.5" external enclosure for restorations on laptop drives, plus I have standard ones...
hiya,
i am starting a small business for on-site pc service, customizations, upgrades, home theater, that kinda thing. employing many things I've learned here, thank you very much.
one of the final pieces of this puzzle is something i've worked at for a while. what best method is there, if...
Hi, thanks a lot for all the info. I'm really glad to know that about raid and the southbridge, didn't know at all that it those chips had to be of the R/DH varietal.
Question though- is this the same if using hard-raid only, doesn't the card do everything?
thanks,
rlr
was just...
Hey, thanks for the replies,
Newegg now has an open-box Areca 4 port card that's pretty marked down, but what is a multi-adapter exactly? it says more capacity can be used with this. Is it for sata?
this card though the battery backup is seperate, and costlier than what I thought it would...
I ended up getting a pentium dual core, 2.5G, E5200, it wasn't too much more than the celeron, and i thought would have better reliability, plus it has a lot more L2 cache. I only got 2x1GB RAM (g-skill ddr2,800), it was almost half of the 2x2, and I didn't think quite necessary. Just got my...
That's a bummer. So does that mean I can't use my WD1001FALS desktop drives for raid 5? How less safe is it, or is it just a bad idea in general? I have 4 or 5 of these, was planning on getting 3 additional to start array with, then feeding/expanding with drives I currently have.
thanks,
rlr
rebuilding file server..... have other post on raid solution (check it out), and yet another on psu's, but that should be fine.
I'm thinking micro-atx board for this- only need 1 pci-x slot for raid controller, although I think some of the cards you can link up for bigger array, like 8 port...
I had my sights sent on a nice areca hardware raid card, 8xsata II ports.
I can't afford that right now, so am looking at "soft" raid solutions.
For example, 2 cards I am looking at are:
RocketRaid 2220
and
RocketRaid 2320
purely based on what is available at newegg for 8x sata II port...
putting parts together for my network storage case, I think anyways, trying to see what parts I have that I can use already. the case will start out with 5-6 x 1TB drives, expanding to 8-10, first in raid 5, then raid 6; one optical drive, 2.5 pentium dual, no dedicated gpu or audio card, some...
I have a short stack of WD1001FALS hard drives, and was planning on getting a couple more, so i could start a raid 5 array. I was just reading on another forum where someone states that both WD and Seagate say they don't recommend their desktop drives for raid. This is news to me, can anyone...
hey everybody,
I just got this board, open box, great deal, no problems so far that i can tell, aside from slow reboots/boots, with usb storage attached, got another post on that....
anyway, i had previously started a thread with a topic on storage solutions, and hardware vs software raid...
Just got new mobo, p5q deluxe (have to change sig), while I rma my dfi x48.
I'm experiencing some issues i had with dfi though.
for example, boot times can be slow, extremely so on asus board, when i have 2 hdd's hooked up via usb in external enclosures. i noticed it was slow before and had...
I'm starting a pc service business and plan on using remote desktop/assistance for some services, if possible.
Been reading around the web, have my winmo phone configured to use it, although with that it's quite slow, but have some questions I can't find out about.
First of all, how...
No, but even when I only connect one additional drive, it still doesn't see it, except in the case of the one drive that shows up as BzBzBz, etc., and for some reason OS drive is unaffected, it's very strange, maybe bcz it has the boot mgr file in it, it's easier to pick up, idk, def seems like...
a few more notes....
i flashed bios succesfully, but still have same results. by disconnecting everything but boot drive, pc starts up nice and fast, any other hdd's connected still will hang post/boot and occasionally start, but then are not visible. i took my primary storage drive and put...
