power requirements for RAID storage box??

putting parts together for my network storage case, I think anyways, trying to see what parts I have that I can use already. the case will start out with 5-6 x 1TB drives, expanding to 8-10, first in raid 5, then raid 6; one optical drive, 2.5 pentium dual, no dedicated gpu or audio card, some kinda raid controller, and 2GB ram. I think that's it....

wondering about pwr consumption of hard drives. WD site says 12VDC= 490 mA, and for 5VDC= 500 mA

I don't know what that means, or how to translate it into how much power I need. Currently in that case is an Antec 510HE.

Is that enough to power that many 1TB drives? or secondly is it enough to start off the array with the 5-6 drives, but would need more with added drives?

Thanks a lot,
rlr

I generally estimate about 25W max per HD. A 500W PSU is enough to power 10 drives with a fairly light system like the one you'll be using. You should be fine.
