At work we've been debating SSDs to use in a cluster, on a distributed SAN, for virtualization. We know we want SSD, but I'm hesitant to shell out so much money for the Intel drive (480GB, $610) when Crucial has a drive with double the storage, good endurance, same 20nm MLC NAND for less (960GB...
If you can find that article that would be awesome. VPS hosting is exactly what I'm looking at using these for.
I just found this which I'll read through.

Trying to get some feedback on using consumer level SSDs in raid arrays local on a server or in a SAN. The price difference between enterprise and consumer level is huge. But I'm scard consumer may have a LOT more failures than enterprise.
So ...
Are you using SSDs in a server / SAN?
Are you...
I had the same issue, try turning dynamic memory off, that seemed to help mine. You really notice it with server manager, when I gave it static memory server manager was a lot more responsive. I haven't googled this to determine if it isn't compatible or not. there may be an update or hotfix to...
Great thread, lots of info, thanks for posting.
Is anyone using a VNX or VNXe with MS HyperV? If so, how is performance. Especially with virtualized MSSQL servers. All information is great, how many disks, SAS/SATA, 10k/15k, guests, hosts, clustered, HA, etc, etc.
Looking to upgrade a CX4 120.
Does anyone know how to turn off the scaling on this monitor? I want to play some old games that only support certain resolutions, I don't want the LCD scaling. I already tried the catalyst center, but the option to change how it scales is grayed out. Even if I try switching to a non standard...
I got it fixed. The voltage has to be set between 2.0 and 2.1v. The model RAM I got is OCZ2G10662G in case anyone else is searching for the same issue. Go into BIOS and to the clock settings and raise the RAM to 2.1v then set it to 1066, worked like a charm.
I just bought some new PC parts and I'm having an issue getting my RAM running at 1066. System is running fine at 800 right now though. Here are the parts.
AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H
OCZ DDR2 1066 Gold
OCZ 600W OCZ600SXS PSU
I'm certain the RAM is DDR2...
it seems like this mobo is my answer, it meets the budget and does PCI express 2.0 x16x16. Plus its DFI which I love.
DFI DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2R Intel X38
Thanks guys, I think I'll go with that and try to swing another 4850 as well. my current rig is running x8 right now with a single...
I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to get a mobo with 2 x16 slots for crossfire or if two x8 is ok. Is there a huge performance decrease between the two? I will be running two 4850's or possibly a 4850 and 4870 if I can find a board with crossfireX. I've tried googling an searching the video...
Ah, thx for the info I didn't know that. Will I take a huge performance hit if I go with x8 PCIe? There is a really good sale with rebate on this PSU, is it not powerful enough?

I also want to stick with Crucial Ballistix because my brother in-law works fro...
u can download the trial version of Acronis for free and use that. just connect both drives and follow the instructions to image the old to the new one.
I have a Visiontek 4850 and when the fan gets going its pretty loud, just FYI. I know the sapphire is even louder but has better cooling. I don't think you will be able to play Crysis on max with a 22" LCD at 1680x1050 with a 4850 from what I have read.
My PC has finally hit the 4 year mark, actually its a mix. Some of the parts are less than that. In looking at motherboards I am torn between spending the extra money for crossfire. I have a 4850 now and i know with xfireX u can combine different cards, so I could potentially get an upgrade and...
Idle
CPU: 41c (105.8 F)
Chip: 54c (129.2)
Sys: 49c (120.2)
Gfx: 56c (132.8)
ok, better temps this time, I ran a a burn in. I think CPU is fine, vid seems pretty high though. It seems like these cards run hot though...
jeez, 120c. ya my 3200+ never seemed to creep out of the 90 F range, even OC'd. I was downloading some files over night with a an XP 1700+ and I threw a blanket over the PC because it was too loud. In the morning the ambient was 150 and proc 160 F, still running fine lol.
hmm, I've never had issues with ATI. This is my first nvidia actually and my first issue with a vid card. I'm not a fanboy of either and it looks like the 9800 GT is the best bang for the buck. But 9600XT, X800, X1600 have all ran flawlessly including overclock. In fact all 3 of them have...
u know, I overclocked the video card a while back and maybe went a lil too far. I think you guys r right. not a bad reason to upgrade, even a small one like a 9800 GT.
no dust, and the PC also reboots/power off when it overheats which lead me to CPU. I think it is overall getting hot. I disabled the shut down when it overheats so I could see it in action and that's when I noticed the artifact. yer right, it would be vid when that happens.
I've got an older PC, X2 4200+ 939. I have it in a Silverstone TJ02 case with an 80mm on front and 120mm on back. Thermaltake Typhoon with 120mm fan. 2 sata hard drives spaced out. All fans are working great.
After a couple hours playing WoW or any other game the PC will overheat. Sometimes...
I'm not sure, when I first got mine I didn't know there was a difference, I just got lucky. I went in to BB to buy a new LCD and that was the first day it was on the shelves. BB was open 2 hours and was already out of stock, but another had a couple left. Just random luck, I thought it wasn't...
Seagate has that business class side of their drives, specs are pretty much identical except the business side actually has life hours compared to the normal consumer side which doesn't boast a certain amount of life hours. I was wondering what everyone's opinions are on the business side vs...
I think he is talking about the EZ zoom which just shrinks the rez to 1280 x something. It looks nice at a non native res compared to other LCDs I guess. idk ... I'm really just talkin out my ass.
I don't have a 360, sorry, who needs a console when u have a PC? :P
man, just played some more WoW, it makes me love this LCD, REALLY love it. I'd say WoW is the most colorful game out, and it looks vivid.
Yeah, the backlight is very close to that in real life, the center is dark, but...
sadly my pathetic puny human eyes needed the extra inches on that res, I wouldn't have bought this LG if they had somehow pumped 1920x1200 into it
that samsung seems like it's more or around the 2407WFP's price range ... is that $799MSRP tru?
here's a pic of the backlight bleed
it links to the higher res jpg.
the colors are washed out unless u adjust the gamma, or the birghtness contrast ...
its so tough, the Dell 2407WFP I have at work is so kick ass, I come back home and just get disapointed.
hey sorry for the late reply buddy, didn't see the post. I got that desk at American Furniture Warehouse here in Denver. It only cost me like $60 too, just had to build it. Its cheap pressboard but works well, I just grabed the desk with the largest keyboard tray, my chair won't raise high...
there is no option for 1:1 in the OSD or Forte manager. if I lower the res it just stretches everything, EZ Zoom lowers the res but it looks nicer than non-native res on any other monitor. I doubt it supports 1:1 though since there is no option. the only real way to test would be to hook up a PS3
