Thanks. This whole forum has been a huge help to me. This is where I did 90% of my research before buying the stuff for my build. Everyone has always been open and helpful.
Well Eclipse, I had tried reading your guide but at this point it is a little over my head. I'm acually trying to get the time to study all of those terms a little more before I go in. You have done a great job with that thread, but I just haven't been able to devote the time to dive in enough...
I wouldn't say that there is a huge difference. It would probably be noticed when running the top shelf stuff at the highest settings, but for "normal" people it is barely there. If you are hard-core go for the XL or XT. I've been running a Pro for about a month now, and it meets my needs and...
I've had my build for a little over a month now, and now that things are properly broken in I'm considering OCing. I've got the Venice core 3200, a plain jane DFI n-Force4 mobo, and Corsair ValueSelect memory (2 sticks of 512). Is it going to be possible to OC much with my memory being my...
I just purchased a DFI nForce4 board. This is the plain Jane version, not Ultra or SLI. I don't have enough onboard connectors for my back case fan, front case fan, CPU fan, and Northbridge fan. I have them all running now, but I still lack a space to connect the front fan to the motherboard...
All my local stores say that they don't carry the adaptors just yet, but I was told that I could leave 4 pins open and be just fine. So far, my DFI nForce 4 board is working just fine and the voltages are pretty stable, but I do have the adaptor on the way from newegg. But I am going to save...
I've gotten everything connected, but nothing is coming up for me. I have encountered 3 basic probable situations.
#1 Will I have to install the drivers for the x800PRO to get it to work?
#2 Could it be that everything isn't making proper connections. The tower I'm using is keeping me from...

I'm putting together my first PC build, and my video card is a PCIex16 x800PRO. It has three different connectors at the end of the card that goes towards the front of the case, and I hooked a power connector (that came with the card) into one of them. What are the other two for?
Well, this is my first build but I've heard that the DFI boards are great. I've also heard that MSI were easier, and that ASUS are more stable. I was orginally going to go with an ASUS with the nForce 4 Ultra chipset. But the DFI that I chose had the same number of slots and was about $25...
I'm going to get my big payoff soon, and I'm going to "blow my load" on a computer. I've chosen to do a self-build. I've researched here and a couple of other places and chosen the following.
Processor: AMD Athlon64 3200 Venice Core (Edit: probably OC to about 2.4 or 2.5)
Motherboard...

Thanks for the input. As far as the sound card goes I was going to get a different one anyway. The only difference would be if the BIOS was easier to work with or better to use.
Okay. Thanks. I thought that the SLI boards were more advanced, but I was just wondering if it was worth my money. But I don't think that I need an extra video card for anything that I'll do.
Okay, I'm new to putting computers together and all that jazz. What are the differences between the Ultra and the SLI mobo's? Are the SLI's more future-proof? Or are they just different sets of capabilities?
Are the regular nForce 4 boards even looking into, or do I need to go with either SLI or Ultra? I have had an Ultra suggested to me, but it is just a hair pricey for me at this point.
So, how does the x700 perform on some of today's games? I've found some great prices on the x700PRO's that are out there, how do they measure up? Would they hold out for a year or two for me?
How much trouble would it be to get the 3000 up to 2.4 or 2.5? What would the normal top-end be for a 3000 without a lot of tricks that it takes a pro to do? I'm doing research for my first build and I'm just curious. Thanks.
Is it worth sticking with ATI only, or is there not much difference between their work and that of their partner companies?
Basically, is Sapphire any good?
I think that the Venice cores are down to 202 now. I'm pretty sure I'm going to grab a 3200 and maybe go as high as 3800 speeds because that would be more than enough for what I need to do.
Edit: That price is the retail box.
Well, what is a good mobo for less than $130? I'm just needing something for general use and maybe a little light OCing in the future. I'm looking to use an AMD 64 3200 with a Venice core.
If they both have 256MB video memory, what would be the real difference between these two cards? Would a person see too much difference between them when running HL2 at higher-end settings?
Thanks!
Well, is there one brand that seems to work better with AMD's? I've heard that both crucial and corsair are good with the AMD's, but I have heard good things about other companies too? If it matters I'm looking into getting a 3200 with the Venice core.
So, it wouldn't be necessary to OC the memory to keep it up with everything else? And would 1gig be enough for starters? I won't be doing a lot of high-end gaming or anything, I just want enough for a few of the "latest and greatest".
From what I've read about the 3200 it will fulfill the role that I mainly need it for without any OCing. And as far as OCing goes with this chip, I probably wouldn't push it further than turning it up to about a 3500 or so.
Well, I think it would be a nice option, and it would cut down on wire clutter a little in the apartment. I would just wondering about how much a good quality WiFi card would cost me otherwise.
I'm looking for some memory to go with a AMD 3200 and a Radeon x800. I'm wanting to dual channel 1gig at first and maybe expand later. What brand goes best with the AMD? How hard would it be to OC the RAM just a little? This is my first build, and I am not looking to get very strict with the...
I'm thinking about getting the AMD 3200 with the Venice core. How is the general performance with this processor? How easy is it to overclock? This will be my first build, and I'm looking for some basic things with the option to OC in the future.
Thanks for your input!
I'm considering buying this mobo for my first build, and I thought I would get the overall feelings from everyone. Is the built in WiFi worth the extra cost? Does anyone know if it overclocks well? I'm not a serious OC'er, but I will be getting into it as I go along. The link is...
Like a higher-end P4, close to 3.5 or 3.8 or something. A gig of memory, and a pretty good HD. I'm going for a gig of memory at first, but what processor would be about par?
I ran across another that looked decent, and forgot to bookmark it. Now I can't find any reference to it on the site that I found the link on. It was gig(something) if memory serves. But those horrible things happen when you get caught up in unimportant things like finals. hehe :D
