Cyberpunk 2077

Well, there is stealth where being the hunter is an option and then there is helpless hide and seek.
The latter of the two I fucking hate. It's why I didn't care much for Alien Isolation and find the mere concept of the Amnesia: Dark Descent offensive.

I'm not a big fan either. During Phantom Liberty there was the Alien Isolation bit of gameplay if you sided with Reed and it was fine as a short break from the normal gameplay but I don't like playing full games that are like that. Resident Evil balanced the action and run for your life moments and that is about as much of that as I can take. If the whole game is running and hiding while trying to solve puzzles, it's not for me.
I'm a big fan of games like Hitman where you are the hunter but I also like Chaos Theory from the Splinter Cell series where you don't need to hunt or run in fear. I feel like Cyberpunk 2077 has a lot of options for that style of gameplay if you want to play it that way. It's one of the reasons I like it so much.

I loved Alien Isolation, but could never get into resident evil. I despise being resource constrained all the time. In Resident Evil when you pass a section, you don't enjoy it "Oh woo, I'm glad that's over with" Instead you start pondering whether you could've done that part using less resources. Even saving uses resources so you feel guilty for saving the game too often. It's a game that is never fun. And then I didn't even mention the constant backtracking and trying to think where is the thing you didn't have the key for but now you do.

Stealth is fun when done well, and it is done well in Cyberpunk. It becomes unfun when it is forced and always results in a game over when you are detected. I start almost every mission in stealth, and if I'm detected, well I throw the gauntlet at them. It's good to mix things up. That's the best part of immersive sims, that everything goes.

I've found an universal truth: Good games become more tense and fun on higher difficulty, while bad games become more frustrating on higher difficulty.

Understandable, I only like the first two Resident Evil games, that was probably because of the time period they were released and where gameplay had evolved up to that point. Resident Evil was the first survival horror game I had ever played so it left a decent impression. I do find Cyberpunk is too easy. I have used a ton of mods that make the game almost impossible but it's still easy if you understand the stealth mechanics because you can one shot knock out anyone if you sneak up behind them and you can distract them anywhere at anytime with your hacking ability. Still, it's a fun game and I'm glad it's open enough to allow multiple approaches to each mission. Once you gain the ability to system reset multiple people at a time through mind hacks, it becomes a cake walk and you are way OP by the end even if you cut the experience in half with an XP reducer.

I've tried hardcore22 mod combined with enemies of night city with an XP reducer at 50%. I've added weapon degradation that requires manual fixing, I've implemented level scaling like the original release of the game had. I've increased the stealth detection to near impossible levels and I've still beaten the game without killing a single character.

Many mods like Night city alive combined with the traffic overhaul and "They Will Remember" can be punishing for action players but they don't really matter if you are stealth because nobody is mad at you or even suspects that you are their enemy. Enemies of night city would be the most notable mod for difficulty if you use the last beta version rather than the test version. This is because it makes some characters immune to knock outs and it creates boss fights out of certain crime syndicate operations. These bosses require creative use of distractions, hacks, and aerial attacks in order to knock them out.

I've used a number of mods that make the game more difficult economically, like "economy punked". I have a mod that will allow a single bullet to destroy any cyberware that you have based on where the bullet hit you. This can cause your cyberware costs to skyrocket and nerf you hard in the middle of combat but if you are stealth they shouldn't even know you are there. I've got a mod that charges you monthly rent. I have a mod that gives you cyberpsychosis if you push yourself too hard. I'm using Dark Future which forces you to eat, drink and sleep ect. I've got about 450 mods installed and it's great but it's really hard to challenge someone who has mastered stealth. What I really want is a mod that adds more enemies with more complex perimeter and more drones that are set up in ways that make infiltration more difficult.

Much better netrunning is a favorite of mine. It forces you to breach enemies and bring down their ice before you can hack them. You have to get into difficult spots to access breach points before you can bring down the enemy ice. Otherwise you can't even hack gadgets to distract them. Each enemy group has their own netrunner and they will break through your protections and obliterate you if you are not careful. That is is pretty fun for me. "They Will Remember can be combined with "Call reinforcements" which will allow enemies to notice if some of them have disappeared and call for backup. This forces you to take them all down in a quick timestamp if you want to avoid backup being called which will complicate things more.

NGL, I liked the original progression and skills more than the revamped version in 2.0, and I feel the game got a lot easier. There are many OP builds now. I could've sworn in the original version you couldn't take down boss enemies by just sneaking behind them. And didn't they used to call in reinforcements? It was a long time ago, so I might be misremembering as I haven't played the game for 2.5 years before trying 2.0.

So I've discovered a weird bug with this game. I like to use it as part of my benchmark suite as well as regularly playing it. Anyways, I was running a new setup through today and discovered when you use an AMD GPU and switch the CPU without reinstalling everything from scratch the FPS gets cut exactly in half. For example, running my 7600X3D with 9070XT my average FPS was 140, but when I swapped to a 9850X3D without doing anything else the FPS is now stuck at 70 and will not go any higher. This does not happen with Nvidia or Intel. Even deleting the config files and cache does not change this. Very strange.

Me too. I added as much stuff back into the game as I could. Damage scaling, Level scaling, proficiancy checks, The enemies with the little skull above their heads which indicates that they are higher level and can't be chocked out. You can one shot knock out enemies that are immune to holds by upgrading your legs and doing a charged jump and landing on top of them. It will give you an ariel attack knockout. Still, I like the limitations and attempts at game balance that the game had before they dumbed it down for the masses even more with the 2.0 update.

No, it's harder now. They had truly broken builds in the original game. The revolver stealth build was absolutely game breaking. You could one tap anything on the highest difficulty except bosses. Those took a double tap. Even Atomsmasher only took 7 or 8 shots to kill unless you broke off and reset your stealth buff. Then he was three or four shots to kill.

The only thing that made it harder back then was using certain weapons classes like the machine guns and assault rifles which were severely underpowered.

I don't know about all the various builds but for the stealth approach that I take, it's much easier now due to the lack of high level enemies that resist knockouts and the lack of damage scaling which makes me invincible when I max my armor out. As for smasher, I usually hack all of the turrets in the room so they attack smasher and then I beat him with my bare hands for less than a minute and he's done. That's on very hard with the improved smasher battle from "enemies of night city" enabled. This is probably because Phantom Liberty adds relic abilities that allow you to target weak spots for insane bonus damage. I'm sure there are various builds that have changed in power over the years and it makes sense that they would want to even them up if possible. Still, the game is much easier now in terms of how it plays if you ask me.

I remember on my first playthrough I had to take note of the enemy power level which used to be labeled by a number of skulls on each mission. If you took on missions that were higher level than you were then traditional stealth wouldn't work so you constantly had to find ways to level up and catch up with certain mission level scales in order to use the stealth abilities properly.

Also I would run into to breach points and mechanical locks that out level my character and I couldn't do them until leveled up. These days I don't run into that at all anymore.

Optic camo is also OP and wasn't available when the game launched. You can pretty much sneak past people without even distracting them or knocking them out anymore.

Currently I can instantly knock out 16 people with system reset in a matter of 2 seconds If I'm using Songbird's quantum tuner. I have a mod that drastically increases the amount of RAM needed for hacks so that it's kept in check but it's so OP I can literally walk up to any group of enemies and time slows down, I select all of them and hit each one with system reset and instantly knock them all out at the same time. No kills, never spotted, no shots fired. Works on everyone unless you use enemies of night city because the base game no longer has enemy scaling so no enemies have ice that can block you anymore. The tectonic rippler combined with some of the elite frontal cortex cyberware from phantom liberty can push your ram levels way beyond what could be done originally. Even the netwatch OS is weak compared to the tectonic rippler after the 2.0 rebalance. Even the secret ending where you take on Arisaka solo is pretty much a cakewalk with that setup. I just calmly walk through the level and knock everyone out before they even notice me.
