Nintendo's Switch Won’t Run “Zelda” At 1080p

undocked isn't that high of res. Also what you and others say points to yet another fuckup for their marketing. This is not a mobile game system. It is a home console that can be used in a portable way. Just a step up from the Wii U and it's pad. Mobile gaming is meant to stay with the 3ds line.

second is that people are to the point that they don't expect a single 3rd party to make a game for the system as 1st party is all people care about. If you were to say that the next Xbox system was going to release with no 3rd party support people would be talking about it being a piece if shit but since it is Nintendo it is acceptable that they release with no 3rd parry support and people who want 3rd party support are told to fuck off that they are wrong for wanting anything except Nintendo games because you shouldn't think there will be 3rd party games.

1080P, 900P, 720P, I don't really care when it comes to Nintendo especially when I'm mobile. I get that it's a console / handheld hybrid, but my use case will be almost entirely mobile. Also good with the limited 3rd party support since all of the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS games I own are 1st party games anyway. I've got every other console and an excellent gaming PC to play non-Nintendo games. Switch is a no-brainer buy for me since I do want full-fledged Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon on-the-go.

Mobile gaming is not meant to stay with the 3DS. Don't buy Nintendo's bullshit about the Switch not replacing the 3DS. The mainline Dragon Quest games are coming to the Switch, Atlus announced the next SMT game will be on the Switch, Nintendo announced that the next main Fire Emblem game is coming to the Switch. All of those have been portable titles for a long ass time. The last time a main DQ or SMT game were on a console was the PS2 and the last console main Fire Emblem game was on the Wii. That said the next DQ is also a PS4 and 3DS title, so that one could be an anomaly. Then there are the rumors of Pokemon Stars being a Switch title and there has never been a full Pokemin game on a console. Nintendo will support the 3DS for now, but it's clear they're shifting development away from it.

Well, it's that, and it's the motion controls, it's the "use half a controller per player", it's the touch screen, it's really just sort of everything. It's hard for them to make something straight-forward. The failure of Star Fox Zero exemplifies that...in an effort to use the gimmicky motion controls and tablet of the Wii-U, they competely fucked that game up and pissed off everyone who played the other games, which did not implement any of that.

As we've seen with how popular stuff like Call of Duty is, people don't really want change to their beloved franchises; they want more of the same with new stories, better graphics, and maybe a few small gameplay tweaks thrown in.

On one hand, Nintendo is criticized for introducing new elements to their games. On the other hand, they are criticized for the perception that they are a sequel mill and their games are all the same. So, which is it? They can't both be true.

Yeah, Nintendo (under Iwata) already merged their portable and home console teams, less than a year ago.

This is rather disappointing...though to be honest pretty much both the XBOne and PS4 (non-pro) often render at 900p and have it upscaled, with the PS4 at least at once point doing a little better in outputting actual 1080p. Still, those consoles were sold years ago and it is important to remember that the Switch is basically a mobile (Nvidia ARM-based...Maxwell? Pascal powered?) device. Resolution isn't the only thing that matters when it comes to games, but lets be honest... even looking at mobile phone and tablet hardware, there are plenty of devices that have 1080p resolutions and provide good gaming power. I've said before that the BEST possible thing the Nintendo Switch could be is an Android-powered tablet with all of the "nintendo stuff" on top of it, because I don't see how another $299 mobile console (and if they're going to do this, it better be the MAIN console for Nintendo, the successor to both the mobile and home console line; I don't want to to see a device with some many compromises to do both, posed as only 1 when they come out with another console in a year or two) can survive in an era where everyone has smartphones/tablets that game as well if not better in terms of hardware. If they make it an inexpensive mobile gaming tablet that can also do other "normal Android tablet stuff", even if I have to sideload it, then I can see the allure. However, it worries me when they talk about "oh, you have to use your other device for chat/voice/party system!" in this regard.

A $299 system with a fuckload of expensive peripherals, that does nothing more than buy/play proprietary games, with even less flexibility than previous Nintendo mobile/home consoles (Hell, going all the way back to the Nintendo DS there was a chat program built in!), seems like a major waste in this day and age. This goes double if they are expecting to charge the same $299 that will easily get your a 2nd revision moden console like Xbox S or for that matter a capable mobile device, yet they're only going to push relatively low power/resolution gaming. I really want to like the Switch, but it is getting harder and harder to hold out hope that it isn't going to be yet another expensive vector to play a handful of games; games that I'd much rather play on PC or Android anyway. I've always said I'd vehemently support Nintendo giving up consoles, selling peripherals and making their games with a PC + open mobile platform in mind. I'd hope the Switch would at least show Nintendo is cognizant of the change in the industry, but new announcements make it seem otherwise.

wow that's pretty lame if you ask me... Nintendo's First Party titles are second to none and that alone is reason enough to buy their console...
In the 80's and 90's it was. What is lame are the current lack of titles and support. Wii-U first party support ends with Zelda. Way to drop the ball on an already hurt generation. You think I'm lame, I think you aren't being realistic, just a fanboy.

There are over 700 games for it not exactly a bad selection.. besides I play COD on a PC yeah it owns on that platform...

Oddly enough I have never really heard that said about Nintendo...?

I think most people who are Nintendo fans just want more first-party titles.

Happens every time Nintendo announces a sequel or basically any new product. If you haven't heard that said, I really wonder where you're looking.

Pretty disappointing that Nintendo's upcoming console won't be as powerful, but not surprised really, I'm guessing they are trying to cut down costs as using more powerful hardware will increase manufacturing costs, but yeah, it's 2017 and yet it can't do 1080p let alone 60FPS, 30FPS is just embarrassing really and not able to run at 1080p will add more hurt to it.

Paper Mario
Mario Kart
Mario Bros Wii U
Zelda breath of the wild
Super Luigi Wii U
Star Fox
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Super Smash Bros Wii U
Pinkmen 3
Mario Party
Lego City Undercover (AWESOME time killer)
NES remix 1 and 2
Bayonetta 2
Metroid

Exactly. It's a Mario machine other than a few other token inclusions. (Some of which have crap controls or are just ports from older consoles) It simply wasn't enough to carry the console and resulted in its premature death. Nintendo's best selling, longest lasting consoles had vast libraries with must have, something for everyone games.
