So someone thought a "Milking" game with motion controls would be a good idea....Gee i wonder what hand motions that is going to make use of.

I love that picture. They put up a couple short videos of the game being played too.

Unlike the other consoles, Nintendo has a lot of people that will buy literally anything they sell and swear it's amazing. Many have kids that were raised thinking that, too. I blame whatever was in the breakfast cereal in the early 80's because my generation is nostalgic to a fault. We can blame them for the 80's toy blockbusters, too.
Even if the Switch is a total disaster, I bet there are enough gen X and Y diehards that will at least push it to WiiU sales levels.

You'd think it was Nintendo cereal, but it wasn't. It was Smurf-Berry Crunch! If you ate that, then you have no choice but to love Nintendo. If you ate Ghostbusters cereal, then you would still buy anything Commodore made if the real company was still around.

If you ate both cereals, you're completely FUCKED! You'll buy any game system, computer, portable, full-blown PC, and probably a lot of other things I can't even think of.

Anyway, I ate both (actually all three, plus Mr. T, Nerds Cereal, Gremlins Cereal, and more.) Now you're starting to see why I get excited over a lot of different things that many people would prefer to complain about.

For all of the bad stuff I've already seen on the nintendo switch I was still wanting to get one. I was really disappointed in the lack of hardware specs as it makes the console a secondary one. The problem with this is that it means you are buying it for the first party games as I question many good third party games for it.

I personally don't like the look of the new mario game, I'm not sure what they are changing with mario kart 8 buy me again edition but I'm not happy with it either. Nintendo has destroyed the mario rpg series so that is out, haven't seen a good wario ware game in a while.

Zelda looks good but since it is on the wii u as well it isn't really a console seller in my mind. Big thing that I want is a new smash brothers.

I don't know I'll end up buying one I think but it seems like virtually every generation I buy less and less from nintendo. This is coming from someone who has owned all of the nintendo home consoles. I loved the systems up to the gamecube. The wii actually was a great party system but didn't get much play past that. The wii u barely got played. I wasn't a big fan of its super mario land but the smash brothers and mario kart got played a fair amount. Still the amount of games I have for the system is laughable.

What I'd really like nintendo to do is fix their online presence. I don't want digtial games tied to a console, I want them tied to an account like ms and sony do. I also don't want to have to buy my virtual console games again(or pay an upgrade like they tried to charge with wii to wii u versions). Hell give me this system and a better way to buy and play the virtual console games and port some of the later stuff and I'm in. I would love to have this thing and be able to play some gamecube level games like paper mario the thousand year door. Same with the zelda games. I'd honestly like to see some of the wii games get ported as well into a virtual console for it. Let me replay the old mario galaxies, the mario rpg from it, etc.

I look at Nintendo as a catalyst anymore. Honestly, they came out with motion control. Sony and MS followed suit with the cameras. Sony went further with the eye and controllers.

DS has touch screen ps4 now has a touch sensor.

I'm curious to see how the mobility of this sends ripples through the pond.

I doubt the hybrid nature of the console will be taken by either of the other two but I could see them adopting "HD" Rumble or some variation of it. Impressions of the new haptic feedback in the Joy-Cons has been pretty positive so far even if impressions of 1-2-Switch itself has been mixed.

Ended up trading in my Wii U and old 3DS XL for a Switch preorder at gamestop.

After trading in all the random games I had for the Wii u and 3DS, controllers, etc., I walked out with a fully paid Switch, a fully paid Zelda preorder, and a giftcard for $270.

I was really happy to get $195 for the Wii U and $130 for the 3DS after the bonuses.

Didn't sony already try it with the game sharing to the vita? If anything I think nintendo is late here. Both sony and ms can stream to pcs games. I think the future is expanding that some. Give people a good way to stream to their tablet or laptop on the go and the portable console part of the switch kinda becomes more muted. I guess for kids you can say it helps but I think a lot of them will have tablets or laptops now.

I'm actually worried about the switch because of the dual nature. I'm worried devs will be lazy and really only make the games to run on it in portable mode and not really take advantage of the extra power when it is plugged in.

Also I'm worried about the games. Nintendo seems to generally release one or if we are lucky two of their main games per system. With zelda being a launch game I wonder if we will get another. Since it is about the same size on the wii u I wonder how much better the swift one will be. Same goes with mario kart. Are we just getting a shitty "deluxe" version or will it have a true one made for it?

It really depends on sales. The Wii U had a short life because it failed. If the Switch sales well 3rd parties will come and it will last longer. If this really is meant to replace both the Wii U and the 3DS then Nintendo probably expects to give it a long shelf life. Nintendo's handhelds generally have long lives, with random new versions and updates as things go along. Nintendo is going to do Wii U ports or updated ports probably for the first year or some of the system. So many Wii U games didn't get the attention or sales they really deserved so using them to pad the early lineup of the Switch makes since from a business perspective. It also gives people that never had a Wii U "new" games to play.

Not at this price... Not when it's more expensive than consoles with fully fledged gaming lines, that can play HDR movies and such.

When did $299 become expensive for a new console? The Switch will be the 4th cheapest console price in history (adjusted for inflation) .

I really want one, I think it looks awesome. Hopefully it will sell well.

And then compare it to the pricing of other portable systems. Their latest release, the New 3DS XL released at $199. Considering this is cartridge based and portable, it's not unreasonable to think that it would follow along in the same vein as their other portables, it just includes a docking station with a cooling fan for TV usage this time around. I'd have preordered if it had backwards compatibility but at $299 with no real launch games, I'll stick with the Wii U and 3DS until the Switch actually has a decent library.

To be fair, though, you are comparing hardware revisions, which come later in the cycle and typically include price cuts. The launch price of the 3DS was $249.

It was $250 at launch, however, it was also a huge mistake Nintendo had to go back on.

In the end, Nintendo knows just as well as anyone else, they aren't competing against other consoles' launch prices. Those launch prices of $500 and $400 have long since been relegated into the history bin. They are competing against sub $300 bundle deals with large libraries of existing games.

After my Wii U experience, I'm in no hurry at all. Just didn't really appeal to me, cost a bundle for the needed extra acessories for multiplayer in the living room and I just haven't used it enough.

If I wanted a portable gaming system, I have a cell phone and a portable game pad but I don't find myself wanting to do that much either...

The price in Canada is $400 which is ridiculous for what this is... A glorified cell phone with a dock and neat controllers. If they came out with a USB C dock, controllers and developed Android games that all worked on the phone I already have, they would have my attention at say $200.

I'll wait and see but this probably isn't for me. I bought a 3DS XL and lost interest in that quickly, I doubt this would be any different for me. I feel like there is a market for this for younger kids and families which really has been their target audience for years, so this makes sense.

Pretty sure I'm going to preorder one, and maybe even buy some stock now that their price took a tumble. I'm on leave until April anyway, so that gives me a solid month of Zelda BotW gaming.

Nice. I'm considering getting stock too. Seems like a good time to buy. While the reception has been mixed, I really think Nintendo has a winner on it's hands.

Switch does something PS4 and Xbone cant ever do. It has no real competition. Additionally, it will have full feature, big games. Rather than side games or cut down versions of established franchises. Like most of the PSP and Vita libraries.

It is expensive. But it has its own solitary edge of the market to play in.

The $399 cad price point is higher than I expected, but not as huge of a deal as the peripheral/accessories cost. Yikes! Perhaps a bundle without the dock would allow Nintendo to shave off $100 from that price point (since they're valuing the dock at $90 USD). I'm hoping that any revisions of the console in the future, will be b/c with their existing joycons, docks, etc.

The multiplayer Nintendo 'paywall' is annoying, even moreso when you consider how paltry Nintendo's online account feature set has been compared to MS or Sony. I'm happy there's at least a grace period in effect before the paywall goes up - it will be a good indicator whether Nintendo understands online community needs or not. Oh, and requiring a separate mobile app for voice communication/online features? That right there doesn't give me the warm fuzzies.

I'm sure the new Mario game will be good, sure it's got that weird Sonic Adventure 'real humans mixed with cartoon' levels in it, but I also noticed a lot of traditional Mario settings in there. Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 were some of my favourite games from that console generation, so I'm looking forward to it.

What it does is fairly irrelevant. If Nintendo markets the Switch as a console that can just so happen to be portable then they're placing it as competition to the other two. Most people aren't going to look at it and go "We can't compare it to these other two consoles at the same price, that's unfair". Nintendo needs to pitch the Switch as a new handheld system that you can dock, it needs to be seen as an upgrade from the 3DS.

I think I changed my mind. I should be able to get enough from my Wii U, 3DS XL, games and controllers that the cost of the console will be negligible.

The Legend of Zelda game is what I am interested in and chances are it will be much better on the switch, so we shall see.

Nintendo right now:

There you go folks. This is what Nintendo has to justify paying $300 for a Switch. Meanwhile for $269 on Amazon right now you can get a PS4 with this as a pack-in game.

WTF? I was sure that was fake until I googled it some more.

I guess you either get Nintendo or you don't. I don't.

Irrelevant? It is half the point of the system! It's portable. The other two can't do that. You cannot take gears of war or bloodborne with you, on the bus/tube/train/subway/uber/etc.

And that puts Switch in an interesting area for games development. You will still get the nintendo exclusives. The new marios, zeldas, etc. Which alone are good reason to own a Nintendo console.
But it will also presumably get previously portable only stuff. Such as Monster Hunter. Which is a mega seller of a game. Or Pokemon.
Heck, with the touchscren, they can cover most of the ground made by DS and Wii-U. It truly bridges the gap. We will no longer have to get a seperate portable system. And those games will be better, for it.

Well, I did end up trading in all of my 3DS, Wii U, controllers and games. Of course there are no god damn pre-orders left, so who knows when I'll actually get the system. More than happy to get rid of the Wii U and 3DS XL though because I really never use them. Hopefully I don't have to wait too long to get the console. I pre-ordered The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild through Amazon where I get 20% off as a Prime member, so bonus on that.

This actually rduces the amount of junk I have laying around by condensing two systems effectively into one since for any purposes I would have ever used the 3DS XL for, the Switch is going to be a much better system. While the screen is still only 720p, I'm pretty sure it's going to be way the heck better than the junk they had on the 3DS XL...

Was Twilight Princess on the wii that much better than the gamecube version(I don't think I've ever played the gc version)? From the info shown it looks like it is about the same size on both systems for the new game so I'm wondering. Its like 13 gigs of the wii u and 13.4 on the switch.

I'll personally probability get one but the it doesn't really seem to impress me with what I've seen so far. I just want to play some of the first party games(the wii u was a giant disappointment as well).

I posted a video GameXplain did comparing the versions in the Zelda thread. There are some noticeable differences between the versions, assuming the Wii U demo from last E3 is representative of the final look of the game.

http://press-start.com.au/news/nint...included-box-different-joy-con-charging-grip/

It has now been revealed by looking at specs provided on the Nintendo Switch website that the Joy-Con Grip that is included in the Nintendo Switch box, is in-fact very different to the Joy-Con Charging Grip that is available for $39.95 (placeholder price)

As far as we can tell by the specs provided, you cannot charge the Joy-Cons with the provided grip in the box. It’s in-fact literally a plastic shell that holds the Joy-Cons together. To charge them, you’ll need to either put them back onto the docked Switch tablet (which may be an issue if you’re playing on the TV), or you’ll need to pay $39.95 (placeholder pricer) for the Joy-Con Charging Grip which has a USB-C port.
More BS from Nintendo.....

The accessory prices are fucking incredible.

Apple charges a huge markup, but their stuff is manufactured quite well, and gone through numerous revisions of industrial design. Nintendo makes plastic crap that looks like ass. This could very well be the last nintendo console. They haven't evolved with society.

I find it interesting that people complain about the specs being low, or about Nintendo not providing more expensive accessories in the box, and then complain that $299 is too much money. Just saying.

You're saying...what? All of those statements indicate people don't think it is a good value.

You've said nothing?

The Switch does have low specs, shitty accessories included (a controller that needs to be docked into the console to be charged), and is overpriced.

Yes, one can fuck up everything.

After they chose to not include a charger with the New 3DS XL, I am surprised they even included the comfort grip with the Switch.

Anyways, I ordered two charging grips and an extra set of joycons when I preordered because it wasn't too hard to figure out which grip came with the system.

EDIT: After looking at the Nintendo website for the Switch, I do indeed see how it could be confusing as to which grip is included.

I guess my point was that had Nintendo beefed up the power, or included more/better accessories with the base unit, the price would likely be more than $299. If it was priced at $399 or even $349 it would be a much harder sell.

To be honest, I was surprised with all the stuff they managed to cram in the box and still meet a somewhat reasonable price-point.
