HTC Vive Owners Thread

You guys know the Vive has a built in mic on the HMD correct. It works really well.

Agree about the stock earbuds, they suck! I use some wireless HPs that use RF that have pretty much zero lag.

I JUst picked up the last one at Microcenter today.

Installing it as we speak.... I agree on the floor space - but the cords are exceptionally long :)

I'll post more later

WEll, the kitchem is not as big as I thought it would be... Need to extend into the living room without moving the computer.

I've tested a HDMI over Ethernet and it's working fine with the Vive
I've got a ACTIVE 32-foot 3.0 extender on it's way tomorrow, and it's suppose to work fine. hopefully we don't have too much latency.

To be honest, I've *YET* to play a game on it (I've setup and checked out the desktop) BUT, the kids and spouse although have had PLENTY of action on it. Thus the move to the living room :p

P.S. my 7970/280 Is running this fine so far. :)

I've had mine for almost two months now. It's spent most of its life at my office where I've been working on getting architectural designs into VR (with a fair bit of success). I'm going to be taking it home today since I'm leaving town for a week. I've been really happy with it. I have a fairly large play area in my living room and there's a nice big rug in it that ends a few feet from the wall. I have a 980Ti running it so I've had no issues.

My biggest complaint is the headphones. The right bud has a plastic piece on the wire to let you know it's the right earbud (as opposed to the left bud with nothing on the wire), but that little piece of plastic catches on everything no matter what I do with the cord. It's pretty obnoxious so I'm going to figure out a better audio solution at some point. People have reported good results with these: Amazon.com: Koss PortaPro Headphones with Case: Electronics, and with these: Amazon.com: Panasonic RP-HS46-K SLIMZ Ear-Clip Headphones with Ultra-Slim Housing (Black) (Discontinued by Manufacturer): Electronics. I may get both a see how they fair.

I've had my Vive for a couple days now, and I'm overall very impressed. The immersion and tracking is freaking amazing. The excellent tracking makes me want more peripherals that are tracked and visible in VR-- keyboard, mouse, controller. The lack of a mic input is disappointing.

The headset has a built-in microphone.

Stock earphones are horrible! Poor sound quality & fit. I use some wireless TB 450. They are amazing! Uses RF so no lag, great fit & SQ.

Yeah the stock earphones kept popping out and became painful to re-insert.
They arent decent quality sound.

I hate wires! Can't wait until the HMD goes wireless! For now wireless headphones to get rid of at least one wire are priceless.

Doom, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 7 are other AAA titles coming to VR.

Speaking of Serious Sam devs, ther will get my money for sure!! Look at this crap!!

Serious Sam VR Dev: Oculus Offered a "Shitton of Money" for Rift Exclusivity

I'll definitely reward Kroteam then for taking the high road. I'm putting together a new rig and VR is one of the planned uses. It looks like the Vive is the way to go. Was trying to wait until Christmas to pick on up but Serious Sam in VR, that just draws me in for some reason, I think it will translate well to VR.

Fucking Oculus. I'd buy SSVR purely for Croteam having the balls to turn them down, even if the game sucks, which it won't.

How is availability when ordering now? Are they really in stock and shipping?

I am not a hardcore sim player, but the experience of cockpit view in War Thunder with the Vive is just intense. I've hated that cockpit view on a screen, but I can finally understand how is it that pilots can fly by instruments for the first time with the Vive letting me look at the blurry altimeter.
I love how that I can use whatever headset I want. Currently wearing this pair of V-Moda M-100 headphones with the BoomPro mic.
Btw, it's astonishing how much more immersive positional audio becomes when we have head tracking in that roomscale environment. The Brookhaven experiment demo was so enjoyable because I can actually get a rough reading of where the zombies were just from their groaning sound alone as I move my head about. It's not the same as how we do this in KB+M at all.

HTC massively ramped up Vive production to meet demands and overpass Oculus. They are quoting a 72 hr shipping departure from time of purchase. Pretty awesome!

You guys stocking up on Vive games on the big Summer Sale? I spent @ $100 so far. Bout to hop in.

Favorite sale games have been Solus, Battle Dome, & Chair in the Room. All 3 are "must haves" on the Vive. I really thought Battle Dome looked dumb with its crappy graphics. Boy was i wrong!! One of the funnest games to date!

battle dome is next on my list! Looks very fun

The graphics look very basic, but oh man it is fun as hell! The color movement technic used in "King of the Hill" mode adds an extra level of strategy than just your basic shooter. The game is a must have for Vive owners.

Just canceled my Oculus pre-order after picking up one at Microcenter. Showed it to all 4 of my friends who has oculuses. They are simply blown away. This thing is on a whole new level..........

It really is! I've seen a few people claiming that roomscale and motion controllers are a gimmick, but I honestly don't know why you'd want VR without them. It really is that incredible IMO

Enjoy :)

Seated VR doesn't seem very compelling anymore does it. Show them the light. :D

Roomscale and the controllers are the only part that is decent.
The headset and earphones are poor in comparison to Oculus Rift, they are like beta pre-release products.

I'm bad - spent like 150$ on games. (bought Doom also)
I think alitte over a 100$ on VR games

Hover Junkers
Keep Talking an Nobody explodes
Vanishing Realms
Unseen Diplomacy
The Solus Project
Pool Nation

On your recommendations, I Just bought

A Chair in a room
and
Battle Dome

Battle Dome & Chair in a Room are probably my 2 favorite games on the Vive right now. (y)

I did the same thing when I got mine. Spent WAY too much money. However, the best VR games you haven't bought...

  • Call of the Starseed: The Gallery Part 1. (Kind of pricey for how long it is, but it's by far the best VR experience out there and the most polished)
  • Final Approach
  • Out of Ammo
  • Hot Dogs, Horse Shoes, and Hand Grenades (My favorite Vive title so far. Basically just a gun simulator. Anton Hand the developer updates every Friday with some cool new features, and I subscribed to his YouTube channel b/c he walks you through the updates as well as upcoming news).
  • Job Simulator (awesome and funny game. I show this to everyone b/c it's great)
  • The Lab (if it didn't come with your Vive it is a must)
  • Waltz of the Wizard (free game)

So Vive (and possibly oculus, not sure if it's compatible) oweners, check out a 'game' called Rec Room! Looks like a more polished Altspace

Yea already had Job Sim and Lab :)

I heard I should wait on Call of the Starseed due to price and bugs.

still thinking about Out of ammo, looks cool.. again already spent a ton thou :p

definitely get out of ammo! It's so damn fun and the developer is actively updating it. Once he adds MP, he's raising the price. Get it for 15.00 while you can

just grabbed my nephew a copy :) (he's buying a vive too)

It's only about 7 or 8 minutes but ABE VR is really well done. And it's free which is always good. Narrative driven with a nice unsettling atmosphere. It'll be damned if the Robot doesn't sound exactly like Paul Bettany. Won't go into details as it would spoil. Just download and enjoy. Seated experience.

I experienced no bugs whatsoever. It was amazing and was worth every penny. Yes the price is steep for what it is, but the experience was worth it.

So tried a Vive demo at my local Microsoft store this past weekend. I was blown away! This thing shits all over the Oculus. I don't know if my Oculus demo was improperly setup or what but when I put on the Vive I immediately saw the difference. I didn't even care that 20 people were watching me in the store, I was running around shooting and dodging bullets like a mad man. Fucking awesome! So I asked how long before they get new stock. They had stock for a month now, over 30 units still on hand. Fuck. I bought one and walked out $850 poorer.
