Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Nope..I have to believe you are mistaken with that "fraction" part. I visit a lot other forums and any time D3 mentioned a lot of hate is generated, which is out weighed by the positive comments roughly 20:1. The fact that Blizzard has done massive changes on a ton of things due to gamers complaints should tell you that. Like I said I really enjoy the game but if you think its going to be one of the greatest of all time that is plain delusional...
ok but let's put all these people you're seeing into perspective...

would you say you are seeing 100 unique forum account complainers?
or ten times that at 1,000 people?
let's jus shoot for the moon and give you ten times that at 10,000 people.

I doubt you have read 10,000 people complaining about the game but if you have that is still only less than 1% of the current, active *playing* population.

100,000 people complaining would still only be less than 1% of the total *buying* population and closer to .05% by this time assuming that Blizzard managed to sell at least half as many more copies after the first year as they did in 2012.

forums for people to voice their opinions magnifies the issues like a bullhorn even if those people are a tiny slice of the population.

That's because they're the vocal minority. Those with strong opinions (hate or love) about the game will post the most. The majority, as mentioned before, probably played through the game once or twice and then moved on, maybe picking up any expansion but not touching it again until then. This group isn't going to bother posting or reading forums about the game. I like the game and this is the only place I post about it. I like Borderlands 2, but I don't read threads or forums or write reviews about the game at all. And even though I like the game, I didn't buy any DLC. I played through the game twice, got to the max level, and moved on to another game. The majority for most any game play a game, beat it, and move on.

also this,

you are bitter and it shows.

YES, I was going to say that his posts are really showing how bitter he is. It brings a smile to my face to know that Blizzard has his money and all he can do is post passive aggressive comments on forums about it.

I have no idea and just throwing random numbers out there and sticking percentages on them is not going to solve it. All I know is I've never seen so much hate/trolling/dislike comments out there on so many different forums for D3 compared to any other game...(SimCity notwithstanding as i never purchased that game). How many is enough to where it hurts your brand, I have no idea but I bet D3 set the bar for it. And one of the best games ever it will never be....

LOL...cry moar.

I've enjoyed countless hours plus made some money...so yes I thank them giving me enjoyment and for making me some money!

A lot of D3 whiners were people that didn't own or never played the game and just wanted to join in on the hate bandwagon. When it launched there were tons of people complaining in this very forum about how it was pay to win and Inferno was impossible without the RMAH... before the RMAH even went live.

he quoted my post, which was in response to somebody else. had nothing to do with you dude. come on now.

lol, that part wasn't about you, it was about lilbaby, who is a bitter passive aggressive hater. Who wastes more time posting about the game (hiding behind the excuse that he likes to "discuss" games) than he did playing it. I suppose I should have quoted that part first and the reply to you 2nd.

Yeah...sorry about that! :(

and the majority said nothing. Small percent hate the game. Even smaller percent love the game. While the biggest percent is somewhere between the two.

D3 has been out just over a year. It has at minimum 1 expansion pack. Likely 2 or even 3. It has a lot of life left. Look at the reviews of the D3 console version. Huge praise from what I have seen. In 5 years who know how this game will be seen.

D2 was a great game. D2 - LOD was fucking amazing...that small group of 0's have solidified their opinions far too early.

I had some die hard D2 fans that were WoW friends when I started playing it. Then I had a bunch of WoW buddies that wanted to become D3 fans so they bought it at launch as a part of their yearly subscription benefits. I met some players in the game and they would go on to become my gaming squad later on. I even met some streamers and played with them on a regular basis.

Every last one of them quit the game and said the story (not talking about a cutscene; actual story) wasn't as good as WoW's lore. They detested it and when the few that made it to the second play through were expecting more to be unlocked. They were very sad indeed. The WoW subscription people absolutely despised D3 because they weren't interested in the AH and more interested in which boss drops what. Needless to say it didn't go well with them.

The guys that lived breathed D2 to the point that I started to wonder if they were going come to my house and get me if I didn't join the temple of D2, lasted through the first major patch. They fire up the game once every 3 months to see if it's worth playing yet. Kill a few monsters, get wrong stat loot, /cry inside, go back to playing LoL.

I call them on Skype and they have a somewhat morbid interest in the expansion. Well they are going to watch streams of it to see if it is worth buying is what they said. They bought the Collector's Edition. These are the type of people that attend cosplay conventions in NYC and Canada, and have wet dreams of going to Blizzcon. Well they did before D3 came out and tainted their view of Blizzard. They call them Activision now. They contemplated buying the superior XBOX version for a day before deciding to not give up $60 for the same game.

The streamers I played with all quit streaming altogether. I kept one on my Steam friend's list and he's pretty cool. He doesn't have an opinion of D3's expansion yet. I did see him stream some D3 for a couple hours a month or so ago. He wasn't very happy like he was at launch. But the game is still installed so that's a good sign.

My current clan members all hate the game. We played it in a group together and the general consensus was that it was a bad game. That the little things that irk you were more than the better than average graphics. That you need some meat on them bones! And they didn't get that from D3. One of the wives of a guy in my clan that I play with loves D3. He can't dissuade her from buying it. So he knows that he's going to have to play. Poor thing. :)

Now to the question of is it worthwhile for Blizzard to make an expansion for D3. I believe they sold 12 million PC copies. Say 4 million loved it. 4 million hated it. And 4 million are on the fence. If the 4 million that loved it and 1/2 the fence sitters buy it, then that's a guaranteed 6 million sales! Most companies would gladly sell 6 million copies at $40 a copy going by Starcraft expansion pricing. So the expansion is destined to be a hit. Can't fail / free money for Blizzard. There will be more expansions for years to come. D3 isn't going anywhere regardless of what people think of it.

Q. Did you prefer to level solo, with friends, or in public games?
I did a LOT of my leveling solo, then towards the end I had to party up with people to give me strength. :) Towards the end, I'd say 2 characters in total was mostly circulated from group play.

Proof positive that we need to be always connected to enjoy the game. His friends gave him the strength to complete the last 2 characters to level 100. :) I love the part where he asks for a D3 MMO. Project Titan anyone?

If they made D3 substantially darker I would be all in for an MMO. In its current incarnation, no way. Shutting down the AH is super interesting, I'm not sure it's the right answer though; how is trading going to be conducted now? It's going to happen no matter what, will be interested to see what happens.

Also, holy catfight Batman, new expansion/AH shutting down and there's a 5 page crowdsourced dissertation on "haters".

But what would you and your clan member rate the game? Would They give it a 0? Its the people who rate it a 0 that I am referring too as Trollish Haters. They hate it because they like to hate or are bitter and resentful.

I played with a group of 9 at launch. All of them like the game. Half dropped off after 1.0.3. The rest still play every now and then and one plays daily. None of them think its a great game. None of them think its a terrible game. They'd all probably rate it between 8 and 5.

Time will tell. If your perceptive is more representative of the global truth then the expansion pack will retain around 50% of the customer base.....If my perspective is more representative of the truth it will closer to 90%.

That is a bit much. Hopefully this will inspire blizzard to give us at least 4 more character spaces.

Nothing you say I disagree with other than haters (you can also dislike a game and say/post nothing right?) are a fraction of the minority in this case. I don't believe that to be true. If Stevedave would have left out that idiot fan boy statement I actually agree with most of his other posts. It was more a hyperbole rant than anything. I can see others posters gloss over the fact that I really like the game and am not a troll/hater.

I may have not been clear in my post. But it wasn't fanboyish. It also wasn't calling you a hater or troll. I draw a distinction between trollish haters and just regular people who dislike the game.

I dislike COD series. But I don't dislike it enough to create multiple accounts to have a larger negative impact with my 0's. Nor do I go into COD forms and bash it. Trollish haters try and create the largest amount of negative impact they can. Far beyond what the game (or what ever they are hating) deserves.

Yea, they really need to hit that sense of foreboding. I want to be a little creeped out, a little on edge and scared of what fucked up monster is around the corner. D1 and D2 both nailed that, so did PoE.

Blizzard's art style doesn't lend itself to that type of game play anymore :( D1 and D2 really made me feel like I was in some serious shit. With D3 I play it like an arcade loot pinata and I don't think I ever care what was around a corner, I just wanted it to drop shinies :D

Plus the death penalty in D3 is pretty weak sauce, that takes away some of the suspense. Unless you are playing on Hardcore, no one really cares about getting killed a few times.

dude opening doors in diablo 1 was horrifying and the butcher always frightened me ( i was 8 years old. heh )

I forgot exactly how that went down.

D3 spends too much time with "Go forth and open the door to the Chamber of Doom", then you find the Chamber of Door with a giant glowing sign on it, then you get some character/NPC speech about the Chamber of Doom, then you get a small cut scene and by the time the big guy comes through the door ZZZZZzzzzz. Sometimes it would be cool if you were opening doors and didn't actually have 15 minutes of prep for what was behind it :p

Damn kids! I think I was 15.

All of it was creepy, all the way to the bottom.

Think I was 14 and played it on the PS1. I do remember it being quite creepy but I was comparing it with resident evil and silent hill at the time so it didn't stick out in my mind as much.

I sum the over all feel of D3 up with Pony town. Even if there is evil and dark shit happening it just doesn't feel like it.

Dark Souls got the correct feel for a dark game...I wish D3 had more Dark souls in it.

Woohoo, PAGE 666!

So waiting for the AHs to shutdown, might actually come back to the game more then. As of now I play maybe 30 min a day on the weekends.

did anybody actually fight the butcher straight up? he had insane health and pretty much two shot you when you try and fight him. the stairs is how we used to beat him. bow and arrow that bitch for like an hour haha

Oh wow I still remember playing it for the first time with my buddy at his house and thats how we ended up beating him. It took us a long time and lots of tries but we managed to get him stuck on the stairs and killed him that way.

I always fought him straight up as a Warrior, you just needed like 5 potions and a decent shield.

The Butcher was meant to be kited, mostly. That's why they put him in the middle of the zone, where stepping the wrong way could agro many more mobs. Once you figure it out, you clear out all of the rooms nearby first before you open his door. That first time, though... you were likely to have 30 skeletons and stuff chasing you while the Butcher scared the living shit out of you.

he was super fast too.... for a fat dude especially.

i can still see the room he waits in... the bloody bodies hanging from the sealing. his growlilng voice whispering yet clearly speaking loudly enough for me to hear.

ahhh fresh meat...

Heh, nothing like opening a door in D2 and finding some huge swarm of mobs just waiting to take you out. Crap, that mob's immune! Run!

I think I was 14 or so. Just played in a command and conquer tourny at the local lan center that was using 27 inch televisions for monitors. Played this after for the first time with my CnC buddy. life changing i think.

Yea, but wasn't he overtuned at first where spike DPS could knock you down quicker than potions could keep you up?

Probably. I played Diablo about a year after it was released so patches might have fixed it.

What would be the tits is if they put in the controller functionality that he console has.

its easier now.
hit paragon 10 with hardcore barb in 2 days on inferno.
still not geared for MP levels but as far not much trouble in inferno.

i wish they picked a better class instead of crusader. idk how you guys feel but i have no interest in playing him. i am also pretty sad theyre only adding one class this time.. i mean give us a druid or something mayn

I'll try a crusader out, but I agree... it's not very interesting. They need an "evil" class. No, the WD is not evil. Something like an Inquisitor or something with questionable morals and a darker vibe.
