BioShock Infinite

Anyone able to get 5.1 surround sound working on this game? I am running Windows 7 x64 and have my receiver plugged into a gpu HDMI port. Other games I've played have no sound issues with my setup, yet Bioshock refuses to do anything other than stereo. Anyone got any tips on what I can try to get it working?

I think the Lutece connection throughout the game is what really impressed me...I think they were probably the most important characters throughout

I agree with some reviewers, though, that the whole game seems really subtle in terms of the plot, and then at the end they just kind of info-dump on you. It bugged me a bit because I had to go real analyses to remember what connected where...it didn't feel that "organic" throughout the game.

Basically this. Take a look at what most posters are reporting when they beat the game, it'ss always about the ending. Partly due to yeah, it's a strong ending, but face it, most of the game kind of drags until you reach the end then it's like WHOA. Then it's like whoa wait, let me revisit what I just played because everything as you put it, isn't organic in flow.

I think things will feel organic when you do a 2nd run through of the game...there are a lot of things that didn't feel organic initially because the player didn't know what was really going on...the Lutece connection felt strange initially but you knew they were important

See I would agree with this but what's with the lack of detail and shit? You have NPC models (the civilians) that are all basically the same (what, like 2-3 females, same for males), you have maps that besides crates, desks, and trashcans are pretty barren all things considered (not to compare but BS1 had much more detail environments and stuff and, again, look at the shop in the game play video...ridiculous detail)...I get things change and all that, I understand that, it's just in my eyes that still doesn't make up for the over bland feel of the world and the NPC's. Then you have guns that don't show modifications like they did in BS1...not a big deal, but why don't they? They obviously did it before and people loved it and this time around they definitely had the time and resources so why skip out?

I don't know...despite the time they spent on the game it still just has that rushed feeling to me. Something about it makes me feel like they didn't really put THAT much time into it, ya know?

I blame console gamers.

I'm 99% sure that they E3 demo was impossible to run on the current hardware and they had to dumb it down considerably and leave it more as a tech demo going forward.

Which absolutely sucks because with a little more graphical polish and the use of some of those interactive tears in combat this game could have been a masterpiece.

As it is we're stuck with scaled down combat so the console filth :)D) can still play along.

Which IMO is a slight failure in design, but it does make me want to replay so I guess that's good...?

As far as I could tell, it's working for me at 5.1 over optical. Do you have any alternate outputs to try it out with?

Ah just beat the game... amazing. Best game since Chrono Trigger.

edit: Really could've done without most of the shooting. Get of the pointless fights, keep the couple of big set pieces, and you'd get a 6-7 hour masterpiece. I guess they had to justify the $60 somehow.

This might be the only thing we agree on. I was surprised at the lack of npc diversity. But without really knowing it could boil down to a lack of resources on the console end. I dont know how much different npc models strain a system. I also cant say from a bioshock 1 standpoint because its been too long. But i do remember fighing less people sometimes so they could have been just as redundant.

Was Steam gifted the game from a friend and am downloading right now.

You're in for a treat. My suggestions:

1) Do NOT read anything about the game. Do NOT read reviews.
2) Wait until you have about 10 hours straight of free time and play through it in one sitting.

Well, wandering around does get monotonous after awhile.

yea it's kind of strange to realise the second time around, that they were pretty much shouting spoilers at you the whole way through. like if you were really paying attention, the entire ending could have been guessed at this point by any of the more astute players, or at least assumed. I mean comstock mentions her within the first hour of the game, right after you're persecuted for these mysterious initials burned into your hand, and just before some npc calls her by name right to her face...

that guard from battleship bay really had me confused tbh, it's never explained who she is, or why she just happens to recognise her out of the blue. even though she's had no outside contact with anyone in there, just seemed like a random dev troll to me...

If you've never done any coding then your opinion is rather useless. Because you don't know what's involved in that process. And you certainly don't know what's involved in programming a game.

right that was meant to be sarcastic, since I have and I do, and found it pretty odd that you would demand credentials just for pointing out features that anyone should be able to recognise with a bit of critical thinking. which begs the question, if you have zero knowledge of the subject, why would you doubt what we're saying? and if I told you I was a developer for some prominent studio, would you also blindly take everything I said word for word?

there's nothing wrong with objectively criticising the games you enjoy, it's quite unhealthy to rely on marketing for this kind of information.

After Elisabeth runs away and you kill everyone in that ticket room, you can go to the right side, where you will find a "police" room, with a photo of Elisabeth and a note "Bring her alive" on the desk, plus a voxophone etc. Could be simply that the order to them said "Annabelle" and not Elisabeth ?

Finished it myself the other night. If nothing else, it makes me keep going back over things in my head trying to piece together bits that didnt make sense right at the time but make plenty of sense now.

Ran across this today while browsing FARK......

http://www.slate.com/articles/techn..._s_game_raises_fascinating_philosophical.html

BioShock Infinite wants to be deep and philosophical, but it’s just one big hail of bullets.

Interesting read, though it does have spoilers...... so beware if you havent finished the game yet.

I spent hours crawling through all the spots I could get to looking for tidbits and 'buried treasure' and had a blast doing it. I think I was around 5 hours into the game before I even got near Elizabeth. Some of the fights were a bit over the top, and some dragged out a bit too long I think, but it was a far more satisfying game than many I've played over the years. I think I still prefer Bioshock 1 more though, even to this day, but Infinite is definitely in my top 10 all time now I'd say.

someone said to play through the game on hard first then normal. I am doing that, dunno what stage I am at, the girl got taken and now recovered. What am I gaining/missing by doing it this way?

Beat the game. Still need to time to process all my thoughts on it, but the ending was amazing.

I don't mind it being a big info dump, it's kind of fun to be kept guessing the whole way through the game and not having every plot point blatantly telegraphed. As soon as it was reviled that Booker used to have a daughter and that Comstock may not have been Elizabeth's biological father I put part of the connection in my head. Towards the end of the game I was carefully analyzing the Letuce twins words and trying to figure out the mystery. The thought of Booker being Comstock floated in my head once before the big reveal but I pushed it aside as there were many other possibilities. The moment it got to the baptism scene in the ending though it all came together for me and when Booker said he was going to smother Comstock I knew it would end in his death.

I had a big as grin on my face during the Rapture scene, it was a great callback. It made me wonder if somehow Booker and Anna are tied to that place or if it was simply just a nice callback.

I'm curious on what the season pass content is going to be now because I can't really see anything they need to add to the story. I also hope that it's stuff you can just launch into and play because I don't see myself playing through Infinite again for a few years.

I started on Hard and was on Casual about 4 hours in. This is not really that type of game IMO. The shooting can be fun at times but it's the weakest link.

I was sad at how Songbird died.

Me, too but with the concepts conveyed in the ending...hey...you never know. ;)

Derangel: I lean towards callback for now but we'll see. Supposedly 3 single player DLCs are forthcoming.

I think it's easier to start on normal and then play on 1999 mode. On normal you will have more chances to experiment.

Yeah, honestly I think there's no connection. We know that Infinite was re-designed based on older trailers so I don't think they could have planned it from the start.

Though damned if it doesn't make me wanna play Bioshock again. Loved that game.

Installing it as I type this actually......

I'll give Infinite a replay, just not right now. Gonna go back under the sea for a while, and relive some good times, then I'll go airborn again.....can't wait. :D

I also think the voxophone reveals the answer to that...

the woman's name was Esther Mailer and she was hired by Comstock to capture Elizabeth...I think she was just trying to confirm Elizabeth's identity

another explanation is that maybe she is from another universe as the woman mistakingly calls Elizabeth 'Annabel'...Anna=Annabel?......then again any plot hole in the game could be explained away by the multiple universe theory...multiple universes create 'Infinite' possibilities lol :D

Elizabeth's power comes from her finger that was cut off. Because she exists in 2 universes at once.

Maybe they didn't plan it at the time, but it is something easily retconned. They could easily claim that it is that sound.

I also read that Songbird was mentioned in the original BioShock with a poster...I think that they had some vague ideas back then but they didn't plan it that the games would directly tie in...they just used some imagery from the original game and retconned it into Infinite to make it seem like it was planned

I must be missing some big point that you're trying to make. It's pretty simple, you claim to have all this programming knowledge but yet haven't displayed any. Further more I don't just blindly believe what people say on an internet forum. You would have to provide some actual proof or better insight than "it's not that hard" for your word to be worth anything.

But again I'm done with this pointless argument. Some of you fail to understand and that's fine, nothing I can do about that.

yes that's exactly what it is, the point being if you had any knowledge of programming then you'd know exactly what we were talking about. but you don't, and still choose to deny clear points of logic presented to you, just because you don't understand them. see how that works? not very constructive now is it.

I also think the voxophone reveals the answer to that...

yea I know about the recording but didn't really see a connection with the two, and nothing about it confirms that she's actually the one on the voxophone. only a single (living) person in this entire universe should know her by name. notice they're very careful to refer to her only as elizabeth, or 'the lamb', or 'the girl in the tower', or 'the specimen', or 'the seed' in all cases other than when they choose to give you an obvious foreshadow, like what I think this encounter is supposed to be, just very poorly done.

or maybe we could reason that she was directed by comstock himself just to confirm they were oblivious (not just their identity) to what was going on, knowing she was going to die by your hand immediately after.

Take Her Alive

This is the moment we trained for. The False Shepherd is here. The day was not exact, but...the Prophet's sight proves out again. The specimen must be taken alive. If she dies, I suspect they will give us to the bird. And whatever pieces it leaves behind will bear no names...That was cigarette number six. This waiting is insufferable.

Finished the game a few days ago, absolutely incredible! I want to play it again to see what I missed and hopefully piece things together a little more. I hope the DLC does bring something nice to keep me playing.

Outstanding game! I started playing yesterday at 9 am. I was so impressed that, with the exception of about a 70 minute lunch, I played straight through. Finished the game at 10:30 pm last night. Kept my attention throughout the game; from start to finish. I'm going to be starting another play through today except I'll be at the hardest difficulty and I will be taking much more time to explore than I did last play through.
