heh.. Yeah. 2004 is kind of late to have arrived at the CS party.

I stopped playing in 2004 after having played for 4 years, then took a 6 year break, and picked it up again in 2010, and have been playing regularly since.

Agreed, I started in 1999/2000 whichever it was during the beta. I still remember when they first added the dual berettas.

Haven't played the game in a long time though. Got sick of Dust and Dust2 and missed the VIP mode maps like oilrig. Man those were fun...

Yeah, the VIP maps were a blast.
 
I miss the CS maps and players from 1998-2004. Good times. Great maps. Great servers. Many of those maps never appear anymore.

Not sure about the maps. While I have fond memories of many of the old maps and like to play them for old times sake, I feel like maps have just gotten better over time.

Players, I agree with you on though.

The game was a whole lot more fun to play in the early betas betas when it was just a bunch of us geeks playing it on our free time.

Then all the clanners and kiddies started playing it, and it was never the same again.

What I miss about the maps is the variety, it used to be that most servers had a variety of maps, even if they were only the standard CS pack, but now most play the same map 24/7.

As I said earlier in the thread I played on the Atlantamaps.org site and it had something like 100 maps, most of which were never played and/or sucked but there were also a couple dozen good ones that you could nominate and then vote on for the next map choice and haven't seen most of them since that server went down. :(

Well, the server I play on these days has some variety, but not THAT much variety. We play more than just Dust2/Office (though they are in the rotation as well)

Try it out some time if you'd like:

I'm "sHERF" on there, but I haven't been on lately as I am working on a minor red Orchestra 2 addiction.

I used to be connected with Valve back when I ran my servers, but I'm not anymore.

I suppose I can wait for the final version. I have Red Orchestra 2 to keep me busy for now :p
 
We have a CSS version of CS:GO for everyone to play, They are just CS:GO maps but it should give you an idea.

They're too busy working on HL3. I'm tellin' ya, this game is nothing but a side project (along with DotA 2) meant to keep the masses occupied until they announce HL3.

And there was nothing posted about it because there was really nothing new to discuss.

They likely showed Phase 1 of the closed beta. Its just the most popular weapons, 1 skin for each side and dust 1 and dust 2.

To bad it uses a ELO based matchmaking system and there is no real way to tell whos on a console and whos on a PC. Outlook not good on your im gonna show them whos boss plan.

Actually I think ShadowRun is a completely underrated series if that's what you're implying. Their biggest mistake was releasing it at full price. The game was great but with no campaign and only about 4 multiplayer maps it should have been $15-20.
 
Eh I've put 20+ hours into the CS:GO beta I reckon I'll buy it. For all the hours I put into it it's a steal for $15.
