Got my Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37" 1080p display today!

mwave FTW! been ordering from them for years! they never let me down shipping is fast too :D

Thank you, the deed has been done! Only thing left to do is clean off the desk and make room for this beast. Oh, gotta Ebay my piece of sh*t 2407fpw as well.

Expect many pictures from me next week.

Sorta off topic, but I started using the 37w3 for Blitzkrieg RTS (my favorite game as of late), and the maps are huge as expected, much less scrolling around when using ur snipers and observers. One most excellent monitor I must say!

This is a Tv is it not? lol

I was looking at the Benq FP241W which is $850 (24") and it looks amazing or the Dell 2407 24" for $850 as well. for my gaming monitor.

Then I noticed this thread and was like WOW. a 37" But what would I do :p :p

My question is to the owners who already have purchased this.
Is it worth the money?
And what are you using the Monitor for?
Are you playing PC games such as BF2 and CS?or any other type of gaming on this besides the consol games. and how do they look. If it work sout well I might spend the $
its not a tv...its a monitor..and i play bf2 every day on it @ 19x12...works flawless,as you would expect any good monitor to do...this one just happens to be bigger than most

Alright, I think im going to make the purchase tonight. Question is Mwave.com or ChiefValue.com?

Mwave = $1,048 shipped standard ground
ChiefValue = $1,069 shipped with AIT front door delivery

Just wondering if anyone has experience with both sellers.

I know others on this thread have had little no problems with these Dealers. Go fo it

FYI: My company has spent 10s of thousands of dollars with Mwave over the past mmmm i wanna say 10 years, they have been around along time they are very reliable.

I picked this up last week from www.mwave.com and I am so happy. I've been using Mwave forever and highly suggest their service and products. Pixel policy is 10 bad = return, but I had no problem with Pixels at all.

I'll post pics as soon as I get my computer room cleaned. <grins>

I love this thing. Best investment I've ever made.

Well I have to say that after having it for one day and getting to play for a few hours this is by far the best purchase I could have ever made. PCNation was an excellent place to buy from the box showed up in pristine condition a day early. Thank goodness I ordered right before the big storms hit in Chicago. I have 0 dead pixels that I can see so far but I have not done a super scan for them as I was just excited to get it hooked up. Preliminary PICS I will get more soon.

It's HERE :D

Had to play some COH please forgive my camera skills this is my first LCD.

Sitting on my desk this morning before work I hated to have to leave it so soon.

If you are on the fence on this one just buy it, you will not regret the purchase.

Personally, Im not concerned about purchasing from Chiefvalue.

My main concern is if this is a good price. Do you think that this is as good as it get for a while?

I really want to buy it shipped for under 1k - just not sure if I am just dreaming or what!

Looks like that'll be your best price but you might want to check mwave

Company of Heroes is GODLY on this monitor. Oh, and CS:Source, WoW, Oblivion, etc...

What desk are you using in that last picture?

Thanks!

I built it myself, it is two 6ft desks put together at the corner made out of pine. I sanded it and then stained it ebony. Keyboard trays were made out of drawer slides I think it has held up quite well and I built it for less that $80.00 total minus my time becuase I am not a carpenter.

I've had this monitor for about 3 months now, and haven't posted here in a while. It's been awesome as a pc monitor, I love this thing. If you're checking this thread daily and looking at pictures of it all the time, do what I did and buy it asap.

Cons? The standard def looks horrible and there is noticable ghosting on 2d games (and 3d in certain situations), but it's not nearly as bad as any other (crap) lcd I've used so far. I was surpised at the horrible rating of the westinghouse tvs in a magazine I picked up the other day, but it's awesome as a pc monitor and for games.

You may be wondering how noticable the dead pixels are. Well, I looked once and saw at least 6-8, but they're all on the outside. I can only see one on a regular basis, they're so tiny. The monitor has over 2 million pixels, so a few isn't a bid deal as long as they're on the outer edges.

 I have a concern with Image Quality in regards Motion on the screen of my Westy.

If this is a repost I apologize, I've only read about half of these 130 pages ;). First I'll say I love my Westy and despite this concern I still love it and it was a great bargain. I have no dead pixels nor any color bands that persons reported with earlier versions of my Westy.
That being said, owning it for a few weeks now I have a concern with the how images in motion appear on my Westy. Whenever I am watching a video or playing a game and there is fast motion on the screen, I notice (how do I describe this) a horizontal tearing or banding as the image is drawn on the screen. Still images are perfect, and normal motion is also fine.

It is as if the display is limited in how much it can draw on the screen at one time, and when the image in motion exceeds this limit -- it flickers and tears. This not an intermittent problem but can be reproduced every time. If I am watching a 1080p QuickTime trailer for instance, the video will ‘split’ at some place along a horizontal line (sometimes two lines) where the video above and below are not drawn on the screen together at the same time.

3D Games are easy to reproduce this. If I grab any 3D object and use the mouse to drag it across the screen very fast, the 3D object will flicker and tear all the way and all the time (everything behind the 3D object that is not in fast motion still appears fine, the banding only appears on what is in fast motion).

Being a faily hardcore gamer myself, this is a pretty weighty concern as I play multiplayer 3D games almost exclusively.

Now I also moved to my Westy from a CRT, so I may just be seeing an inherent problem of LCD's -- however the artifacting seems so painfully obvious that doubt this is the case and I'm leaning toward it being specific to the Westy since it is in such an affordable price range.

I’m using a 10 foot DVI cable and I am wondering if a shorter cable would help. It’s a shot in the dark but I can’t think of much else. Any thoughts or similar experiences? Specs are in my sig if curious.

Thanks,

Update: I changed my nvidia drivers vsync setting to 'always on' and the problem appears to have completely gone away when watching videos and while playing all games. For some reason this wasn't necissary on my crt but on this big lcd it was very noticable. I thought this setting in the '3D" settings would have nothing to do with video, but perhaps I was wrong. I keep watching it with a keen eye.

Just pulled the trigger on this from CV. Woohoo!

Now once I get this hooked up to my 360, I'll say that's tax refund money well spent :D

I plan to get a Westinghouse LVM-37w3 in about, oh, 2 to 3 months when I get enough money (my money right now is going into a new computer).

Anyway, I am having a lot of problems deciding on this monitor . . . I either want the Westy, or a 24"/26" monitor. I WANT the Westy primarily, but every site I go to either charges $400 more than the normal price or the site does not have returns at all.
I really, really do not want to have Buyer's Regret, especially when it cost me $1200 or so.
I doubt I will have problems with it, but there is a chance I may think it is too big, that it has 6 dead pixels right in the middle of the screen, and so on.

Anything is possible but I do not think you would have buyers remorse from this I am sitting here at work just thinking about when I get home to play.

Damn I'm so mad... I woke up 10 minutes after the first delivery attempt... now I have to wait until tomorrow!

I would have to agree I went with this over a new PC first. Have to scrape up some cash for that pc now. But this thing hooked up to my 360 through vga is love. My Battlestations midway looks perfect in 1080p! Buy you won't regret.

So where is the best place to order this monitor from? :) I'm very interested if this is the ideal 37" to buy. I really want a 37" for my gf's bday coming up, but I kinda want something that can do at least 1080i.

Thx in advance.

Nope wasn't saying you didn't know that just saying this price for this and that it is 1080p is out cold. But be warned once you go 1080p you never go back. Man now I want to go and but the HD-DVD drive for the 360 to get some 1080p movies. I just went to best buy today and they have Fight Night Round 3 re released as an xbox 360 greatest hits but the thing I didn't know is the re released it in 1080p had to pick it up again and feed it to the Westy. All I can say is the last time I saw this game it was on a Sanyo 27" SDTV and it looked tight. Now this thing looks out cold!

Whats the highest resolution Time-Warner HD is producing right now? Just wondering if I should hook up the cable box via Component or DVI.

Also, do some DVI cables limit the output from the source or does it just depend on what the output is?

My 42" Westinghouse has been sitting at my parents house since Monday. I had to ship there because it's my billing address and I haven't been able to get home to pick it up because of the snow storm that dominated the Midwest. Needless to say, I'm getting impatient, and reading this thread is making things worse.

the 360 plays 1080p games??? i didn't know that...

so the only way to get 1080p is for me to ditch my component hd cables and get VGA?? cuz i don't believe there is DVI/HDMI... let me know!! :)

okay mwave has it for $999 again, I think im going to get it fedex overnight for $80 bucks, then should have it by Monday. I know fedex reguraly leaves stuff at my door without a signature, does anyone know if they will leave this Monitor on my doorstep as I wont be home during the day? Also its very cold here in Chicago, can the cold do damage to this monitor or will it be fine?

So is this the best price we are going to see for awhile? $999 + $20 shipping?

Should I bite or wait it out? (I really want to buy this for under 1K shipped)

You opinions/advice needed....

Personally I wouldnt trust any ground service with a $1000+ investment of mine. I would recommend spending the extra for air service, the less time Fedex or UPS has the package in there hands the more the chance you have of not getting a beat up package.

Hell yea! After Sony kept saying that their system was the only 1080p gaming console out, MS put them back in their place and released the fall update that allowed 1080p gaming. So a couple of months past with people debating about if the 360 does 1080p or if it will only up convert games to that res. Last month it was confirmed that it indeed is allowed to do true 1080p games when Lost Planet was released with the oh so lovely 1080p tag on the back of the box. After that Battlestations Midway did it (I own that and can tell you it is jaw dropping), and today I picked up fight night round three again and it has 1080p. So there you have it 360 does 1080p. and to answer your second question you can get it through component but it looks very bad compared to VGA on the westy. At this moment there is no digital connection from the 360 but lets hope they release a cable or different version this spring or summer.

You sure those all have native 1080p?

IGN Disagrees.

EDIT: A quick bit of googling confirms Lost Planet is only upscaled from 720p. Not sure about the others, but I would assume its the same.

I can say this much for sure I can tell the difference with out a doubt from a game that was unconverted from 720p to 1080p and Fight Round 3 and Battlestations Midway are true 1080p. It is easier for the 360 to take a native 1080p signal than trying to up convert a 720p signal. That means that the box has to work that much harder to create something that isn't there natively.

there are rumors circulating concerning a new version of the 360 with an included HDMI cable connection. Although a welcome update, it leaves the rest of us in the dust unless they offer some kind of trade in special for those who want to take advantage of the 1080p resolutions.

I Followed the link and I am not agruing with what team xbox said but it doesn't say anything about battlestations midway. Can't comment on lost planet because I haven't played that.

I for one don't really care I just want them to release it. I was planning on grabbing another one in the future around summer time so my son would have his own. here is the link with the video playing it.
