Next thing ya know you'll be buying 4200rpm drives so they spin slower and quieter. :p

Can't wait to see that case loaded with drives man!

lol I wish my hard drives were the loudest things in my case. I'm pretty sure that my tornados are take that prize though... :D

Nice mobo selection.. looks familiar. :p You'll love that board.. tons of features and its secksy. I can't wait to see this with all your drives in it. :D Make sure to bundle the cables nice and neat like your last galaxy. That was hawt.

very nice so far, where you work at? Someone has some extra money to throw around :p

you don't happen to work at toyoda gosei do you? Those people have a ton of money..

Well Him and I work in the same town, trying to figure it out :p

You two have a PM ;) We are much bigger than Toyoda Gosei

Are the fans running on a fan controller, or not, also if not, what voltage are you running at?
I just ordered 4 80mm, and 1 120mm, my main server is not loud, but i can still hear it, and i have a zalman cpu cooler, a passive video card and a very quiet ps, so i am hoping to get as quiet as your machine ockie.....

Alright, I just had to post after seeing the Michigan'ers post here. :)

I live in Grand Blanc, school in Flint during school terms, and work in Troy (Siemens VDO/Crooks Road) during work terms.

Actually interviewed at Beaumont for the co-op IT position, but they turned me down :( But now I make more at Siemens as an EE/CE/CS person, so it's all cool. :D

Nope, no fan controllers... straight up wired up to the psu... they are incredible.

Glad to hear that, i have a fan controller in this box, and with the fans i have turned down to the lowest setting, the machine is not quiet.........

Glad you like your Seasonic as much as I like mine. I didn't think a PSU could be so quite without overheating due to lack of airflow but these are amazing.

I know exactly who you are, Joe. Seeing as we were suitemates for the last 3 months. ;)

Well dang more Kettering folk... I haven't met someone here that knew was [H]ardOCP was yet...

to bring the thread back on topic: Needs moar pics ;)

very nice Job Ockie. I am curious to see how you are taking (have taken?) care of the HDD cabling.

Movax and I graduated together! How weird is that?

I wasnt aware anybody within 10 miles of me belonged to hardforums. Thats awesome.

I know Ockie got his drives in last night.. But still no pics! He's taking WAY too long.. I should call him and complain.

I thought he was using the drives out of the Galaxy 3 project?

Yea, I meant he got them in the case (his drive bays came in yesterday).

His main comp is down, mainly because I have his processor, so he hasnt been online much, if any, lately. :D

cool, i cannot wait to hear how he likes the new hot swap bays.
btw, is the fx-62 yours or ockie's?

It was Ockie's until last Wednesday. Then I partial trade/bought it from him. He got my 4200+ x2 in exchange so he could use it in galaxy 4.0, and some money on the side so he could buy some more parts for his main comp (which he is rebuilding as well - its ungodly, like galaxy).

I wonder if we could talk him into starting a worklog on his other box, i love his projects, they are lot like mine lately with noise being a big issue, i am prolly going to start a worklog soon on my workstation/server, doubt it will quite as interesting as ockie's build.....
I need pix ockie, i am waiting for parts on my own box, need to see yours!!!!!!

Actually I was/am still quite surprised he doesnt have a work log on his other comp.

Its going to be nuts. I wont give the specs away though. I'll let him tell ya. :D

So I talked to Ockie last night on the phone, and he said something like he didnt have his camera with him or something so he couldnt take pictures.

Whatever that means, I am not sure. But..

If he doesnt have pics up by monday or tuesday, I will probably be hanging out with him to give him money one of those days and I'll take some pics and post 'em. :D

glad to hear, i need to hear about someone else's project, i am building my raid array, and had a small problem....

Update:

I installed the hard drive hot swap units, they are flawless and simple to install, the lianli screw rails makes it a sinch.

The Good:
-The drives looks really nice and it matches the case.
-The case holds all the wieght
-Looks very clean
-Very decent at cooling and moderatley silent now with the cages

The bad:
-I tried running one 600w to power up at least 15 drives.. but it didn't make it.. so before the rest goes live I will need my dual PSU bracket asap.
-Cabling was a bitch... I mean seriously a pain in the rear end of a donkey

The Ugly:
-Due to the dual drive chamber design, there are no screws other than the rail screws securing the bays in place... this is causing some rattling (very fine loose vibration noise... which is quite irritating. One thing I might do is perhaps try some foam tape to reduce this, other than that I can't do much about it.
-Did I mention cables are a bitch? I'm thinking of going straight to phase 3 of the build so I can use those multilane cables.
-I don't have the camera with me, I will get it back today and hit you all up with the update pics.

HDD Cabling was a nightmare, due to the sata controller design, I had a hell of a time to get them to look neat... also having the cables at a 49" length inside this small cube doesn't really help either. I guess I can't complain, however, I need to move to phase 3 pronto.

lol, logging stuff is a lot of work that I just dont have time for :) Just keepin up the galaxy tradition.

but i just might, who knows :)

Awesome! Sounds like its coming along nicely. Hmm.. foam tape should work or at least put enough pressure on the units that they wont vibrate as much.

Pictures!!!
:D

Here she is, in all her glory. Phase 2 complete.

More lighter shot (drive bays matches the case btw)

Rearview (Dual PSU is still not in)

Inside view:

Hope you guys enjoyed it. Next phase is the pcie controller installation that will allow me to use multilane cables and I will finally be able to hook up all the drive bays.

As for some of you questioning why some of the drives are not connected, it's because they are not populated with drives and that I do not have enough ports for them... in phase 3 they will be connected.

What a useless phase... unconnected drives... :D

Haha of course I am kidding! It looks unbelivable. That cable managment is seriously humbling

Its awesome, your pc looks more like nas than anything else now :)

*sigh* Man i wish i had disposable income.

Server looks great as all of them have. love the work.
