yeah, i tore my hair out using vista. I was doing a new build from scratch in febuary, and all i was waiting on was this board. built 3 times never worked with vista
wow, this thread lives on. i haven't checked it in 2 months -- anyone care to summarize? all i can remember is the grief this board caused me. I waited excitedly for a month then got it and hassled with it a month, then finally came to my senses and just went with a p5w. I couldn't be more happy...
I had the same problem with the board and I have the same RAM as you. Everyone told me to make sure to change the voltage settings to 2.2 and the timings to 4-4-4-12 and that would solve my problem. It didn't though. Are you installing Vista 32 bit?
edit: I was also using two SATA drives and...
Allright I figure out what the problem was : Windows VISTA! I guess since I was doing a new build from scratch I should've started out with XP and then updated the BIOS and drivers for my files. Anyways, my problem was solved once I flashed the BIOS to the most recent version and changed the ram...
My RAM is either bad or I can't figure out the proper bios settings. Whenever I try to install windows I get funky graphics on the screen and it just stalls. On my previous motherboard (Abit f-i90hd) it would just crash at the beginning of the windows install .
Currently my Patriot Extreme...

Buff: you are right about the ram timings, but I still haven't solved the problem. I was reading through newegg's reviews for the Patriot 800 mhz 2x1gb extreme Ram I have and a lot of others said that they weren't able to install windows (my problem) until they manually adjusted the ram timings...
The timing for my RAM is supposed to be 4-4-4-12, but in my bios I see 5 categories:
tCL
tRCD
tRP
tRAS
tRFC
I put 4-4-4-12 in the first four categories but I don't know what to place in the fifth, tRFC, it's set at 21 by default.
Thanks
(i'm using patriot extreme 2gb 800 mhz ram btw)
:sigh: i went and exchanged both the motherboard and processor for new ones. I'm getting the exact same error that's in the title again. Perhaps I'm breaking the processor when I'm mounting the NT06 heatsink....As for your suggestions regarding the Ram timings I'll have to check into what...
Can't get my board to boot with e4300 chip, keep getting CMOS checksum errors or CPU errors. I'm using both a SATA optical and hard disk drive with the original bios. Could that be the problem? Or is my processor just bad, or mobo, or both?
Just built a new rig with an intel 4300 chip and abit f-i90 motherboard, and I get this message when I boot up -- it crashes early on in Vista install everytime too.
I just constructed my new build with the Abit F-I90hd and intel e4300 chip. The first time I booted up I did not get this error but I got a checksum error that I ignore, and then proceeded to install windows vista. The computer crashed early on into the install and I get the error message in the...
Just curious, why did you pick the nt06 lite over the plain nt06?
Also I would bump the power supply up to 520 watts. the corsair 520 is a great piece.
