    How incredibly bizarre. I had been using it with a secondary monitor for a while... when my battery died I began charging it and it the monitor suddenly started working again. Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll keep it in mind next time I decide to buy a new laptop.

    I am. Go to your Direct X sound page (Run> Dxdiag) and turn down hardware acceleration... I had to turn it off completely to get rid of all the sound problems.

    X800 cards don't support HDR. The patch is only to allow ATI cards (latest series) to support HDR and AA at the same time.
