i just got the xbox360 controller and im using it on my pc. it works great for games like fear, halo, splinter cell but i can not get the keys to map on hl2, cs, hl2:dm. i want to try it on these games. when im in the change keys menu, i click change and then hit a button on the controller but nothing happens.... am i missing something, please help.

No, it is most likely no one cares about the 360 controller on a PC. Keyboard and mouse are much better than any controller.

its makes games like splinter cell much better, and fps games are fun too with it, im not saying its better than a mouse and keyboard, this topic is not even about that, i just asked a question. Don't be a fucking bastard and say that controllers are gay.

Not for everything. In fact, I'd even say the keyboard is a weakness for the PC. I love how using a typewriter is synonomous with PC gaming. Gotta love that analog keyboard option...oh wait...
The mouse is great, but not for everything.
Think about a driving, fighting, action, sports, etc. type of game. Playing with anything but a gamepad is kludgy and a total joke. Not everything is an FPS or RTS.

wow, noboby has the same problem

That's because no one wanted to try it. Steam probably didn't waste time on makeing it's game compatible with a game pad. It's just not work a week's worth of work so .01% of the people who buy the game can hook up a game pad for 10 seconds just for laughs.

hmmm.... weird, i can map keys to buttons on my joystick, but not my gamepad, oh well..... not a huge deal

Wah, himmy pointed out that the vast majority of PC gamers use mouse/keayboard therefor support for gamepads will be lacking. boo hoo, that means he is being a 'fucking bastard' and calling controllers 'gay.'

Grow the fuck up.

Racing games
Sports games
Console ports

PC gamepads have been around as long as I can remember (I got my first in 1992). Companies don't make products for north of a decade that nobody cares about. The man had a simple question about a particular gamepad which a lot of PC gamers have thought about picking up. Go back under your bridge.

Man, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a Gamepad for PC gaming.

Sure, there are those rare, few games when a Keyboard is an absolute must. If you are playing something like Fallout you sure as hell better be using a Keyboard and mouse.

But any kind of console port, sports game, racing game... Even shooters. Believe it or not, some people are insanely good at Gamepad aiming. It's just a matter of what feels right.

(Playing Oblivion on my PS2 gamepad, works perfectly)
