Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I'm building a rig for a friend out of some components we both have lying around and I'm having this strange overheating problem. These are the relevant components:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz 65W Dual-Core Black Edition CPU
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer...
i've been using and loving an Acer 2423 for about a year now. but recently monitor behaves strangely. if anyone can help me diagnose this, it'd be much appreciated.
when it comes out of stand-by (or when the pc is restarted) it produces a bunch of noise (mostly black) that gradually resolves...
can anyone tell me if there is a meaningful difference (aside from $10) between these two cards:

vs

the only difference that i can see is that more expensive card...
thanks.
i'm restricted to $400 and it has to be a mini-atx tower. (not quite [H]ard, i realize)
so those boards with the 6100 or 6150 graphis onboard help me sneak in around my pricerange...allowing the person for whom i'm building it to buy a video card if wants to.
are there any...
i'm trying to build a budget machine for someone as a gift...and i want to build in the option to upgrade the rig for gaming.
this asus barebones system caught my attention because it has integrated video:

i too have personally experienced the performance hit associated with the 128kb L2 semprons. my palermo 3000+ tops out at 2.4ghz according to prime95, which is fine; but even at that speed it is noticeably less competent to run a 7900gs than the athlon 64 (512kb) chip i've got at 2.0 in another...
thanks. 2.6ghz would be great. any recommendation on what the right board is? someone recommended the epox sli board to me...any problems there?
the ram i've got for that rig is an old stick of corsair value-select pc3200. i know that xms is the good stuff, will that value memory hold me...
new to the club. cool thread.
i have a sempron 3000+ (palermo, 1.8ghz) lying around and am considering building a modest gaming rig around it. it's L2 cache is only 128k, so i figure i've got to OC it as much as possible (if it's gonna keep up with a 7900gs). i've got good cooling options...
i've never had an x850xt, but so far i'm pleasantly surprised at how well the 7900gs handles just about everything i throw at it right now (even in 1920x1200).
and if you grab the evga version for $185 on the egg, then you a downpayment on a real big upgrade (i.e. 7900gtx or g80) that's good...
thanks for the advice.
it's actually a 754 board with two pci-e slots (nforce 4). my girlfriend does graphics stuff for work sometimes and she convinced her boss that she would need an SLI rig at some point when they last chipped in for her computer. i think epox makes the board.
but i...
i have just inherited an old machine that contains the following budget PSU:
DYNAPOWER USA ADW-50063 ATX 500W
(output: +3.3V@32A; +5V@42A; +12V@20A; -5V@0.3A; -12V@0.8A; +5VSB@2A)
i have a 7900gs lying around, and my girlfriend has a sock754 rig that could use the graphics boost. will...
