Dying Light: The Beast

Swear to god I lose brain cells every time I look at system recs.
Ultra 4K 60fps frame gen with a bunch of mid range GPUs? Nobody is frame generating 4K60 with a 5070 so why even list it that way. Just do 4K 144 and list a 5080/5090 or 40 equivalent.

Also the 4070 Ti is faster than the 5070.

What I don't like is they do things like 2K at medium settings. Why? Just give the bare minimum, then what would be needed for at least 60 frame rates at ultra settings at 1080/1440/4K. Add ultra wide in there to. Also odd the B580 is recommended for 2K medium settings but also for 4K ultra settings?

Techland Moved Up Dying Light: The Beast Release Date by One Day to Celebrate Hitting 1M Pre-Orders

For me, the game is automatically included in my steam library because I bought the Dying light 2 full edition at launch. I bet that is part of the reason why the pre orders have reached 1 million. Most of us didn't pre order it, it was just given to us which I'm not complaining about. I didn't like DL2 but I was a huge fan of the original. I'll give this a try since it's free for me but I'm not expecting anything ground breaking. Oh and KAC, didn't you pre order battlefield 6 from EA? lol

After spending close to 30 hours across 2 weekends I didn’t have a problem buying a BF6 code for 40$.

Also I joke here. I also don’t know how you got this game for free because I didn’t and I have both dying light games.

I figured you were joking, just poking fun at you. I think BF6 is pretty good so far but I don't trust EA. They do the bait and switch too often. I wouldn't be shocked if they include future DLC items that turn the game into an immersion breaking mess. I'm thinking magic users with wizard hats, pride stickers on your guns ect. I'll keep an eye on it and see if they can manage to keep it an actual military shooter.

I see. I don’t have ultimate. Just the reloaded edition.
I also have the reloaded edition. And I suspect that most people do.

I actually pre-ordered The Beast and then cancelled it when I saw Sextein’s post, because I thought the game would be in my library for free - but, no, I didn’t originally buy the Ultimate edition.

LOL.

Now I have to re-order my pre-order.

The odds of me not liking this game are virtually zero. I loved Dying Light and Dying Light 2 equally. I love the atmosphere in these games. This series is becoming one of my favourites in gaming.

Given I already have BL2 and with BF6 and COD on the horizon, I can stay put with this game and pick it up on discount (similar to DL2). Plus most likely it will be a buggy unoptimized mess so no urgency from my side to indulge. I will be watching to see if it will be worth buying on release or waiting will pay off.

Too weird for my tastes Monday meeting is like we have this game called dying light lets bring up sales.

Cool, waiting then for me. Unless it has shitty performance then might buy just to experience how bad it is.

Few immediate thoughts:

1. No raytracing but it does have reflex.
2. There's a button for graphics options in the top right of the Video menu (took me like 5 minutes before I noticed it).
3. Game has a VERY generous FOV slider however it is vertical fov. The slider goes up to 77 which is giving me huge fisheye, I think it's 120+ Horizontal.

Game runs like smooth butter, no stutters at all and my GPU is barely doing anything. However the graphics are... pretty mediocre.
Will report more later.

73 is 90 horizontal in 4:3 AR, and 106.26 in 16:9, which is what I prefer. 77 is 110 hor in 16:9 and 124 in 21:9.

Techland stated that the game would support Raytraced Global Illumination and Reflections but I guess that's coming in a later patch...I hate when developers delay important features...which is why it's better to wait a few months to play most games as we get the complete version...the Dying Light games in particular are known for getting major improvements in terms of gameplay, features, graphics etc months and sometimes years after the initial release

one major graphical upgrade for Dying Light: The Beast is that Techland has introduced native support for HDR

from the PCGamer review:

"It took me about 35 hours to complete the main story of Dying Light: The Beast, and I've still got a bunch of sidequests I never did, treasure maps I didn't hunt down, and activities like mini-power stations and safe houses I didn't complete...I'm happy it's big enough that it doesn't just feel like a padded-out expansion: with a couple exceptions, The Beast feels like a proper, full-on game...it's just not as good of a game as the last one"

The entire game is basically equivalent to the Slums from DL1. There's more here than miniature games like AC Mirage but certainly less than the other two DL games.
Maybe they crammed a lot more into the play area? We'll see.

It's certainly a better game than DL2 so far.

That is kind of lame but they claim it is coming soon. DL2 had some nice ray tracing so it is odd to not see it here on release. With the 5070ti, I can run ray tracing in DL2 but already finished the game on older GPUs. Was thinking this would be interesting for the engine/graphics as a benchmark.

AC Mirage is still a 20-24 hour game, and the map is quite large. It isn't a miniature game. It is very bland and boring for the most part, and the graphics oddly looked a lot worse than previous Assassin's Creed games. Almost like it was build on an older version of the engine from 8 or so years back.

Unlike both Dying Light 1 and 2, this game’s performance, day one, is terrific.

On a 5090 at max settings, at 4K, the game is smooth. I’m assuming that ray tracing was removed because it was causing problems - good move.

The game looks pretty good to me. I wouldn’t skip this simply because ray-tracing was removed.

As far as the game itself is concerned, this feels like the original game, but with vastly improved parkour and combat. Someone posting above feared that this game might feel like Dying Light’s expansion, which suffered (in my opinion) mostly from being located on flat ground and lacking in atmosphere. I can enthusiastically confirm that this game is nothing like that expansion. This truly is another full-on Dying Light game with everything we saw in the original, and then some.

For me, personally, I love the Far Cry games, and this feels like Far Cry Zombies, just with a better engine and vastly superior movement mechanics.

I’m happy.

1M fools…
At this point they're no more foolish than day 1 buyers of most AAA games, or even week 1 if there's obvious stability and performance issues like many UE5 games are having.

Fortunately this game seems to be performing very well on day 1 on PC and console. No RT features yet helps that a lot, but even factoring a 20-30% performance hit for RT later, performance should be pretty good across the board it seems.

I never got through the first game still.. got a few hours into 1 and got distracted with other games at the time. They look like my type of games though.

I am mainly wondering how the length/quest design is. Initially they claimed a 20-24 hour game, then it grew into a 40-50 hour game. I don't have a problem if that is a good 40-50 hours. I fear the big jump in length comes from dozens of lame quests rather than proper and well designed side quests. If well designed I don't have a problem with it.

Nice performance jump after I updated my GPU drivers to 25.9.2
Acceptable performance on my sleeper GPU, Radeon Pro W5700
