Which RTX 4090 card are you planning or consider to get?

You are right about the FE. I really really want to get into custom loops. I priced it out over the weekend. No block for my card.

Decided against it though for now. I’m already like $3500 in on this build after reusing my case and ssds. I was looking at ~$600 for just the cpu. If I didn’t leave any thing out. Then when available I would have needed the GPU block another rad and hardware. Probably be $1,000+ the way I specced it. At least a lot of the parts carry forward.

Maybe in 6 months.
The cpu block, rad, tube, fittings weren’t bad. It’s the damn pump/res that were killing me.

Am I the only one who hates the look of the FE though? lol.
I actually like the FE I was bummed that I couldn’t get one. I think it looks premium with the aluminum unibody shell.

My MSI performs better than expected. Ram and Core oc very well for 450watts (3045 core/ +1500 ram in timespy), but it looks like cheap plastic to me.

The strix looks good but is over priced and the suprim x aio model looks good too. At least to my tastes.

Based on the performance #'s from the 4090 reviews, I now think a 4080 (the real one) feels pretty ideal for my needs. Seems like those should still push 100+ FPS in 4K (without DLSS3 and such) with the details cranked. I figure I'll probably try and snag an FE on launch day, but I don't see myself going hard in the paint like I did for the 30-series. I had like 15 tabs going about an hour before anything could go on sale. This time, I'll probably have 2-3 and I won't sweat it if I miss out. The card will mainly be for a full rebuild I won't finish for 5 months anyway.

TBH, I originally wanted the Suprim X Air or AIO cooled models. Then I was turned off by the 520W limit... but in reading further, it still seems to get just as high clocks as the 600W models out there and performs about the same. I can't see myself paying the Strix Premium for 600W just to push benchmarks, that may not actually see any benefit from 600W.

Sure then founders makes sense.
Also size. My 3080 Ti FE was going to be the only 3080 Ti model that really fit in my case as all the AIB's went with gigantic PCB's, both in length and width which would interfere both with side panel closing and mounting of my pump/res at the front of the case. Add a waterblock to it and the inlet/outlet terminal adds even more width.

The AIB PCB's for the 4090 look a little more reasonably sized this generation, its really just the coolers that are gigantic.

That said, I am not spending $1600 for a graphics card. I got my 3080 Ti cheap, secondhand with a trade and a little $$$. 4090 is definitely a "want" for 4k120, but then I look at what I am actually playing and yeah...I don't need it right now and even if I did, I am sorry, flagship gaming cards were $699 not that long ago and were called "80 Ti's". This new 90 branding was just a flimsy excuse to raise prices and they stopped pretending it was a Titan finally.

I think Nvidia is stashing the FE 4090s and only doing through the special redemption link in geforce experience. They keep dropping 3090ti on their website and best buy. They must have had shit load of them. No wonder they are holding the 4090s I think. They have been selling the 3090ti because Best Buy has gone in and out of stock like 20 times I think over the last two weeks lmao.

They did add 4090s to their online shop too now. Totally controlling the inventory I think showing it out of stock and pushing people towards 3090ti to offload them first.

Fuck me sideways, tf I just do? Atleast tis my bday so that's my excuse...

I think the clocks have more to do with silicon lottery than board.

At 480 watts in synthetic benchmarks holding 3045mhz with after burner showing the tdp flirting with the power limit.

The 600W limit is cool for benching, but I’m not going to dump the extra wattage into my case to bake my 7950x.

I love the look of the FE cards. The high-end ones though can be noisy as hell. The FE 3080 TI and 3090 cards had the worst coil whine by far compared to AIB. Also the FE cards seem to be the most inconsistent when it comes to fan noise as you can take four FE cards and they may all four sound completely different. For example digital foundry had two 3080 TI cards and one of them had a noisy as hell fan and the other one didn't. That was my experience too because I had two FE 3080 TI cards with one of them that was just ridiculously rough and noisy while the other one had a smooth fan. I had an FE 3090 that was by far the loudest noisiest card that ever heard in my life as it sounded like a jet trying to take off when it was under full load. And both FE 3080 TI and the FE 3090 all had ridiculous levels of coil whine. My Asus 3080 TI though is pretty much silent in comparison.

Nvidia is definitely holding back the full 4090 supply to help get rid of the 30 series stock. It's also the reason that they're trying to price the 4080 16 gig at $1,200 as they know most people find that price ludicrous and might as well buy a 30 series. It's also the reason I believe that the 4080 12 gig was nothing but a planned scam from the beginning and now they get to use it as an excuse to delay a cheaper 4070 12 gig for months to again help get rid of 30 series stock.

These things are insanely overbuilt. Just ran Heaven Benchmark at 4K max details... 61c max. I can't remember the last time a GPU ran so cool.

There is an interesting rumor that Nvidia binned chips for the FE. Jayztwocent reports his FE clocks higher on the memory than his Strix, which carries a $400 premium. Definitely something to consider, unless the rumor is complete BS.

Could just be lottery. My Gigabyte is as fast as his FE.

I think that was to be expected from them. Nvidia clearly had a crapload of 30-series stock to sell off. They will manipulate what they let out when to push what they want to push.

They canceled my 4090. Meh I'll just wait for the 4090 Ti instead. I hate this. I hate life.
Or you can probably just buy it within a couple of weeks or so when they get restocked, just like all normal launches :). Sorry to hear that your order got canned.

Just played some Control 4K, max settings including RT.

The 4090 is officially the card that defeats Control... without the use of DLSS. Felt like 60+ FPS easily the entire time.

So my PayPal email address that ends with att.net can’t receive any emails from antonline apparently. Called them and they said 2 emails did go out after order. I did send email to support and got nothing back either. Normally they respond pretty fast. Called again and she said she will do a ticket to see if they can send order number and confirmation to my other email. She did mention she needs to escalate it to her supervisor cuz she has had others complain about att.net email issue.

Lmao. Shit just can’t go smooth.

Extremely common issue with them... att/swbell/whatever they're known by does a reverse dns lookup of the sending MX server and if the sending MX server's DNS host doesn't respond _immediately_ it says it's "not allowed" by policy. If they send it a second time it almost always goes through. They've got a time out issue they won't (AT&T) look into.

Techpowerup showed an average of 68 FPS with max settings and ray tracing at 4K in Control so there certainly had to be some dips below 60 quite often as there are parts of the game that have large fluctuations in performance. That said I think dlss on quality would actually improve the overall image anyway and then keep you from dropping to anywhere near 60.

Yea never had issue with them previously. She said 2 emails were sent after order from what she sees and seems to be issue. Unfortunately old PayPal account Lmao. I haven’t gotten anything back from support either but last year got all emails quick. So seems to be nothing is coming through. So I sent another email to support CCing my gmail address and asking them to reply all Lmao.

And NE voided my order, strong deja vu feeling here with my Sept 27th 2020 Zotac 3080 order, but no remorse unlike that time, probably saved me a bunch.

Looking at this : https://www.techpowerup.com/review/rtx-4090-53-games-ryzen-7-5800x-vs-core-i9-12900k/ , makes me feel even better, no way I want a full system swap right now especially for 3440x1440p, most games push well over 100 maxed out on the 3090 at that res, more if DLSS is employed. Ty NE.
