Battlefield 2042

BF5 has one of those too. Albeit it is less intuitive than BF4's, it works.

It did but was missing most of the features from BF4 from what I remember and combined with no rental servers defeated the purpose so it was an easy choice to skip.

No rental servers started with bf1, that had a tremendous effect on destroying the fun.

Watching this video makes me completely understand the state Battlefield is in. You see the same thing when you watch the Playground Games videos for Forza Horizon 5.

I'm hearing good things about the Season 1 update released last week...the new map, Exposure is said to be one of the best ones, new specialist, Lis, new vehicle, stealth helicopter

I'll download it and give it a try. But I assume I won't be able to find a match when I try and find one. Aside from that time around Feb-March, I haven't been able to connect. It may be lack of players, it may be some odd match making nonsense.

Map is interesting, not terrible, but not my favorite. Its a good one, compared to the rest, so it gets a Plus in my book.

New Specialist, she's gonna get a nerf. She has 2 TV-guided missiles that recharge like specialist items, not terrible, but I think they'll extend the charge timer. These are incredibly fun to use. About as effective on armored vehicles as the R5 recoilless, but will not lock on with SOFLAM. Very effective against tanks, hell of a range (450m) and acts like the old BF3 TV Missiles from the chopper gunner. Versus aircraft, its going to take a skilled player.

No opinion on the chopper, as you have to rank up in the battle pass to unlock it. They seem pretty effective, but if you let that Stealth mechanic turn off, you get whacked easily by the AA missiles.

Really enjoying the new patch.

Haven't Played 2042 since February, just re-installed the game, went to load up a Conquest, and waiting for players, waiting... I gave it 6 minutes and still no one joined. Deleted the game.

You need to make sure you have cross play enabled. PC only can't connect to servers for me, not enough players. The problem is the settings including resolution reset every few weeks. So this is why I often can't find servers. I have to re-enable toggle aim, resolution, etc.

I installed old school BF4 then yesterday, and was surprised the servers had a lot of games up with a good amount of players on.

Yeah it has a smaller player base but will probably be around for a while. New BF games don't really scratch the same itch and I doubt that will change from DICE/EA.

Best bet is to hope a different studio can manage to make something similar. Would be very difficult because competing with big multiplayer games is difficult.

I am still shocked, what 20 years or so since Battlefield first came out, and still no other game company decided to make something similar. I mean the gaming industry is full of copycats left and right in every genre.

But a good team play game, that's an objective based multiplayer shooter with vehicles to control and use seems so rare. I'm pretty surprised we haven't seen a Battlefield type copycat?

Only thing close was a cool game called Joint Ops, came out long time ago;

Then Valve teased their original idea of Team Fortress of being a Half Life 2 based engine multiplayer game, a cross between CounterStrike + Battlefield, but it got canclled and never made.

world war 3 was the cloest thing I've seen to BF in awhile. there's also squad but thats more mil sim. I think the AAA companies work together to not make anything that competes directly with one another. and BF is too complex of a game for a indie studio to copy. BF was always kind of a buggy game so its probably not an easy game to make.

I understand Battlefield is a difficult game to produce.

But like I said the gaming industry is full of copycats. Look at the MMO genre, it costs big money, and lots of time on a gamble if a new MMO will be successful or a bomb. Yet many companies have tried it.

Obviously WoW and EverQuest being the big guys in the MMO world, but in the past 15+ years there's been tons of new MMO's made, most sucked and failed, some were just mediocre to ok. And a few were actually good, but could never compete against WoW.

I guess I'm just surprised the shooter market hasn't taken the plunge to copycat Battlefield. Try it, see what happens.

Not exactly, I think many studios could do something similar. I just think it is a smaller niche these days. With crazy cosmetics and "play as you feel", military themed games are not as profitable. A neon or zombie tank skin will sell, different camo options won't.

Red Orchestra Ost Front essentially did the the BF concept with more realism years ago. Of course it didn't have planes but it had tanks, transports, artillery, lighter tanks, many variants etc. If a studio wanted to a combined arms military game could be made. Tripwire has strayed from the realistic shooter roots it had with Red Orchestra but maybe they could put out something more casual like Battlefield.

I might be wrong but seems like the MMO copycats aren't really copycats to WoW. Like every MMO I've played didn't copy WoW, they had limited amount of skills you could put on the skill bar(guild wars, ESO, and new world which is completely different.

Interesting. Any reason why Infinite is doing poor? Mainly Xbox player base? I don't like the slow floaty pace of it, so I only played it for maybe an hour.

Their story is almost the same as BF2042. Feature incomplete, late game release, promised feature additions are lacking. What's odd is that 343 seemed to get less "outrage" than BF2042. Both launched abysmally. Perhaps it was the initial DICE Sweden that doubled-down on the decisions and had some real blunders in the Twittersphere, like "brutal expectations."

I tried it with a friend when it came out. I never got into Halo, was deep into other games (and I never had the consoles for it lol) but I enjoyed Red Vs Blue and videos from it. Halo 1 when it came to PC was crap for performance on my computers so I never touched it. While Infinite gave my friend the nostalgias it was sooooo bland and boring. The maps were few, the weapons basic, the gameplay lacking. Even as a run and gun shooter you couldnt run or gun. I was bored after 5 minutes but played another few hours till my friend who was a Halo nut got bored.

I really regret not spending more time playing BF1. I started playing it again recently and its been a lot of fun. I tried BF5 that I got for free in the last year or so and its ok but not as fun.

BF1 is really something special. The WW1 setting (which you rarely see) combined with hyper aggressive players who rush and bomb the shit out of everything... It's INTENSE. I don't think any other BF title captures the intensity of war like this one does. I can see new players getting frustrated though. It's a tough game and a lot of remaining players are veterans.

Yeah, I die a lot so I play support mostly. I had a great run with some random guy with a couple of his clan mates who knew what they were doing. I spent like 20minutes as his gunner in a bomber on Heliogland killing blimps, fighters and strafing the ground.

Ever play BF4 still?
Servers are pretty active. Only thing that's annoying is they have a lot of servers with inflated population to look as if they're full.

Kind of nice playing at max settings and have ludicrous framerates too lol
