Outriders (Bulletstorm developer)

As someone who generally wouldn't play this kind of game solo, I started playing with my friend and we have played through level 23 (just hit world tier 8) and are having an absolutely blast. We connect on voice chat over steam and play coop and we are having so much fun. The challenge is perfect and the loot is coming at a pretty good rate the higher we go. We get multiple purples on almost every quest we run either from drops or rewards. Wanted missions are great for legendary rewards.
It's just too bad the legendaries for the bounties caps at item level 42 on WT15. Only way to go higher is to do the expeditions.

The game is a blast just not enough content. It starts a bit slow, but once you have enough mods \ skills to really optimize builds it becomes a lot of fun.

IMHO they overestimated the difficulty. It's not hard enough to stretch the existing content out and they don't let you off the leash enough to pick difficulties well above your head for a real challenge.

I feel a bit bad for the Devs. They made a decent game and are working hard to support it, but by the time they finish patching the bugs the player base will have already finished it and moved on. (Which has pretty much already happened. I don't know any day one players that haven't cleared the game and moved on.)

I was excited when they said there wouldn't be seasonal content because games like Destiny just move too fast for me. Now I'm a bit sad about it.

Pretty much this. My two buddies and I who played through the game together got to CT15 a few weeks back and just kinda got burnt on it with nothing to really do. Maybe we'll start different characters at some point later down the line.

The whole World Tier/Challenge Tier thing was a little strange. The game gives you zero reason to increase your world tier when you're still going through the campaign (no increased XP) and since you'll just be replacing all the drops you get anyway, increasing it just serves to make the game take longer and be more difficult for no payoff.

We left the game on WT5 up until level 30 then jumped in the Expeditions and grinded up to item level 50 that way. Then, going back and grinding out the world tiers is cake for the free legendaries. Seems like a strange way to go about things.

I've been having a lot more fun increasing my World Tier as I progress through the campaign than leaving it on something low. It isn't about the drops, though the increase in quality of gear drops makes it more enjoyable and feels like a reward for increasing difficulty. At this point I don't really care about expeditions considering the state that the multiplayer is still in.

Increasing world tier significantly improves drops and increases your gear level cap. That approach is obviously doable, but sounds boring AF lol.

The reasoning was to burn through the campaign to get to the endgame. All the stuff you get during the campaign you'll likely discard given how expensive it becomes to upgrade it so the drops during it were of little interest.

Little did we know at the time the endgame was quite shallow after you reach max Challenge Tier but the grind up to it was pretty fun.

I like experiencing the whole game. Just getting through the meat of the game to get to the endgame sounds like little fun. What do you do once you get there? Keep mindlessly grinding? And then what happens when your character is finally min-maxed to perfection? Sounds like a waste of a good game, to me.

That's just it, nothing. Once you get to CT15 there isn't really anything else to do. I enjoy the endgame of games like this, making builds and clearing high level content. I don't really really find the grind up to that exciting.

Just different styles of play, I guess.

Yeah, this is one of those youtubers are just people who put themselves on the internet moments for me. Not necessarily experts at anything.

Even with increasing WT the game still wasn't too hard if you are optimizing your builds and mods properly. It might make sense if there was endgame to race to, but leveling tiers is the game. Not keeping WT current sounds likes racing past leveling up tiers, because you are in a hurry to get to leveling up tiers..... lol

I would guess time to hit CT 15 is similar either way. When you finish the campaign at WT 15 you have all of the lvl1 and 2 mods unlocked and the encounters are a breeze until CT10ish. I guess it's sort of a damned if you do damned if you don't situation, you're going to hit an easy patch either way. I find good loot exciting and enjoy at least a bit of a challenge so for me keeping WT high was more enjoyable. But like Criccio said, different strokes for different folks

Outriders' inventory wipe restoration is finally rolling out

In an update on the game’s subreddit it’s confirmed that this gear restoration will affect ‘Group A’ characters, which the studio defines as “those characters who encountered a wipe and are no longer able to login at this point in time.” Basically, all equipped items at the time of the wipe will be restored—no matter their rarity...meanwhile, all Legendary items in that character’s inventory will be restored

It gets a little more complicated from there: for non-Legendary items in the character’s inventory, 20 items will be restored, with priority on rarity first and date acquired second...that means if you were rocking a handful of Epics and a load of Rares, you’re guaranteed to get the Epics back, not at the expense of some of the crappier items

On the matter of Accolades, these will all be restored providing you reached the final tier of them: unfortunately you’ll lose progress towards any Accolade you never completed...

I just started playing a couple of days ago, personally I aim to experience the lore and story more than grind as quick to endgame content as possible. I'm finding it quite some fun except some troublesome bosses that I had to turn the WT down on (currently on 7 so I turned it down to 5). Actually, I just went back and started a new character for each class so I can try them all and I'm really liking the devastator even though its supposedly the weakest. My highest is a trickster.

Co-op really, really sucks so far. I constantly get matched with console players even with crossplay turned off, and those guys are always lagging like crazy. I get the signal icon every time and the game is like 2-3 seconds behind everything I do. Its miserable. Rarely do I get matched with a PC player and then it seems to be ok.

Multiplayer is purely peer-to-peer in this game, so your connection quality is completely dependent on the host.

Whatever it is, its a disaster. For a game that advertises the coop mode its pretty unacceptable.

Got this game free when I got my laptop.
Only a hour in, seems OK, not a fan of it having to have a internet connection tho.
Haven't used the multiplayer elements yet.

Developer People Can Fly has announced that the next patch for Outriders, currently being tested and due to launch next week, will make major changes to the game's loot system for Legendary drops...Legendary drop rates are going to be increased by 100% across the board, while the previous 'level brackets' will be removed, meaning the items will begin to drop at any level of particular enemy (though the base scaling will still apply)

Additionally, the game will introduce an anti-duplication system (getting multiple drops of the same Legendary was a frequent complaint) that will mean any duplicate items are re-rolled once...

The patch referenced above was released.

We’ve made some changes to the Legendary Drops.

  • Legendary Drop Rates, across the board, increased by 100%
  • Legendary Level Brackets have been removed, so that all Legendary items can drop at any level.
    • Previously, some items could only drop from enemies of certain levels or above. For example, the Ugake Cowl could only drop from enemies of level 48 or higher.
  • Legendary Anti-Duplication System implemented
    • This system will mean that if a character has an item in their inventory or stash and a duplicate item is rolled, the dropped item will be re-rolled once.
    • Note that this system does not guarantee that every drop will be unique. Rather, it is designed to provide a second roll at avoiding a duplicate.
  • Scripted Boss Loot (Chrysaloid, Yagak) are now able to drop all non-class specific Legendary Helmets
    • This change will improve the variety of items in the Campaign.
    • Previously, these bosses would only drop a selection of Legendaries (the same pool that was available in the Demo as well as the Cannonball Helmet).
  • The Luck system has been improved and players should no longer experience very long droughts without a Legendary item dropped during endgame.
    • The base scaling of Legendaries dropping through higher difficulty levels still applies, so you may will still want to farm as high as possible.

General Patch Notes

  • [CONSOLES] Added extra options and settings for controller customization including Deadzones, Look Sensitivity, Acceleration and Legacy layouts
  • [XBOX] Improved Sign-in Times
  • [EPIC STORE VERSION] Fixed an issue that was preventing the pre-order Hell's Ranger gear from unlocking as intended
  • Made improvements to multiplayer connectivity
  • Earthborn Gear / Hell's Ranger DLC equipment can now be scrapped
  • Fixed an issue that was causing old inventory items to be marked as new.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from running if they were stunned while using the Trickster's Cyclone skill.
  • [EDIT for clarity] Fixed a bug that allowed a combination of two closely timed attacks to result in visual one-hit kill on players, from Alpha Perforo's and Behemoths / Brood Mothers
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Scrap Grenade projectile to be blocked by dead enemies.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Feed the Flames' Ash effect to not trigger properly in multiplayer.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Weapon mod 'Ravenous Locust' to not deal damage if used together with the 'Weightlessness' mod.
  • Mitigated an issue whereby players could get stuck in an animation after using Gravity Jump in multiplayer.
  • Crash Fixes.

Extra Note

We'll have more news of the second run of the appreciation package very soon and will deploy it when we've run a few more tests on it. We're hoping for it to be ready by Thursday but we'll confirm this on the day.

I forgot this existed until you bumped this post. That was fun for a bit.

The game can be fun, but there is a whole lot of missed potential.

Yes I enjoyed running through it and played a bit of the end game but there isn’t much to keep a person interested long term. They also got involved with nerfing things too soon, not sure why they even bothered as people just quit playing anyway.

Maybe it’s nice and balanced and fun now, I might try it again and see.

Big update dubbed New Horizon was released today. The update addresses several gameplay mechanics that players have provided feedback on, along with including requested quality-of-life improvements. The big one being the removal of the time limit for expeditions as a condition for completion and rewards. Many bug fixes are also included. An expansion called Worldslayer was also announced that will release sometime next year.

Anyone still playing this? I picked it up on a Steam Sale after New Horizons dropped and have been enjoying it. Needs more content and some quality of life improvements, but the gameplay is fun.

I'm at level 46 with a Pyromancer and still trying to find the perfect build. Started characters for the other classes, and ran the Technomancher up to level 10 since it seems to be the goto Class for DPS. Nothing beats setting everything on fire and spoutting mini volcanos under things though.

Played it a bunch at launch but got bored when the Challenge Tier 14 stuff was too difficult for us to get through.

Reinstalled it a few days ago and I don't know if they made it easier but with my build from back then, CT15 stuff is no problem. I can't die. Not really sure what else there is to do besides keep running more CT15 Expeditions and mix/max your build. Its fun but if that's all there is i'm going to get bored again.

I'm sure I'll get there soon enough, but that's kind of what I was wanting out of this game. Enough to occupy me for a couple weeks as a break from Destiny 2. Then enough regular content to come back to a couple times a year.

Been playing the game, finally beat it the SP and now moved onto the end-game stuff just late last night. Enjoying it, I have an absolute devil of a assault rifle I brought up from level 26 blue to a purple and have been annihilating all the way through WT10. I built an ASH dude...and can crit hit my assault from a mile away harder than a dedicated sniper rifle...hilarious!

This is basically a looter-shooter but Gears of War/cover-based, yes??
If you want to simplify it down that much, then yes. But the cover isn't a primary mechanic like in Gears of War. You will die very quickly if you rely on cover. Healing is done by causing damage and using your powers, so it is to your benefit to play aggressively. Outriders players like to say that the cover is there for the AI, not for you. In the later parts of the game the gameplay loop is really more akin to Anthem without the flying.

Cover is garbage in the game outside of a few specific instances. Its more third person diablo.

The game was developed to let you use cover for short periods of time, but they want you to keep moving. there are alot of perks for moving, healing while in combat, and shielding while shooting. The balance can be off sometimes, but it is definitely not a deal breaker. I probably spend 50/50 in cover and rushing. There is alot of bad clipping and fumbling to get in and out of cover, but to me didn't distract from the gameplay.

It definitely feels janky sometimes, but it has never ruined my experience.

Game looks so boring lol I'm sure they are trying to hold their jobs down but remember Remanant from the Ashes it was a better game.
