Battlefield 2042

People getting butt hurt over a pre release beta is funny. Yes it is crappy, it's a beta. Yes, as per usual it will take 6 mths to a year from the official release for everything (most things?) to get fixed. But really, this is not news if you have played any BF game in the last decade....no one is forcing you to buy it!

never seen a battlefield beta half this bad. played em all too.

But what boundaries is BF2042 pushing? Graphics are nothing special.

Maybe finally doing 128 players per map, ok. But MMO’s do thousands of players at once.

I agree having a high end PC is great for next gen gaming. But this new Battlefield seems to offer nothing “next gen” it seems stuck in 2013.
What boundaries has any game in the past 3 years pushed. Unfortunately Gaming, as a whole, has been extremely stagnant.

beta closed?how long?sense tot download?

True, but also never had a 128 player map. And tornados. Not making excuses, but to my mind it is a different level of complexity compared to previous MP maps...

I remember the reception to BF 3 being pretty negative but I don’t remember the issues exactly.

A lot of it was down to the LAV on the start of the metro map that finally got removed. There was a lot of negativity to that map in general as its a shit map thats only good for ranking up fast due to it having loads of explosive spam choke points.

Found this, he mentions bugs but only talks about not being able to bind things like spotting to the buttons on his mouse. And not being able to change game settings while dead. Anyway, I think they should do a second beta in nov with a more recent build. I posted on the EA forum along with everyone else bitching about the beta. All I can do.

Always the "deal with it" guy. So people that want to buy the game and want a quality game for their money, should just deal with it or don't buy it? Gaming will not get anywhere if the community took whatever devs think is right.

This isn't a Beta, it a demo, something people would play at E3. This is nothing close to what the retail version will be. There's no way someone can make a sound buying decision playing this Beta.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the battle your having has already been lost, and it was lost years ago.

The vast majority of games launch in a 'beta' state and are patched up after. I don't like it, but time has long past to accept reality.

And then it became - and probably still is - the most popular BF map of all time. I avoided it because I liked vehicle maps too much, but the pages and pages of 24/7 Metro Meatgrinder servers in the browser were a sight to behold.

Metro was great in Rush. In TDM is was lame. Locker is a much better TDM map. I never really played that on Domination and Locker wasn't good for that.

I really wish they had more infantry only maps like Locker, Metro and the like and had Domination, TDM and Rush infantry only. Then of course a bunch of maps for Conquest and Conquest Large.

I care zero for the various modes in BF1/V, or battle royale.

Beta is awful....terrible mechanics that don't match Battlefields system, convoluted fluff, specialist system is terrible and Dice should have stuck with generic soldiers. If Portal isn't good this game will die quickly as the ADD CoD types go to the next fotm game when they get bored.

For as bad as BFV was I didn't think Dice could do worse...but they did.

beta == demo.

It made me realize that I missed the modern battlefield games. I still had battlefield 4 installed. Last played 2016. got #1 on a 64 player server. It's good!

No reason to buy this ugly mess. Maybe in 1-2 years, only if they add the essential things back and fix the rest of the garbo.

Had a couple of Battlefield moments sniping campers on top of the building at B1, blowing up a tank with C4, being a gunner for a decent heli pilot, etc, but the jankiness of the engine has not gotten any better since yesterday. Warping all of the place when not in the driver's seat, clipping through terrain and buildings, visual artifacts, inconsistent performance which seems to get worse the longer the match goes on for, etc. If DICE had any brains they would run another open "beta" test closer to release with a stable build that isn't such a shit show.

Not impressed, sad I purchased early. Not a fan of the new "specialists", might only catch me on portal in servers running old classes.
idk if im sad i early purchased ....but i agree with the specialist comment....just seemed kinda dorky to me with the choices. and why does it always default to the female? lol

That is called "PC gaming". The best PC games have always pushed the limit. If you can't afford a mid to high end gaming PC there is this thing called a console.
Only that low end rtx 3060 12GB comes to $ 1000
I didn't mention the console anywhere, it's also expensive plus the games are even more expensive and the shooters and the console don't work together.
When my battlefield 2042 started at 1024x768 resolution and when it required a space key I was shocked.
And after all the problems and lags immediately unistall. I certainly wouldn’t call it an advanced game.

Yes deal with it, it is a beta, so they can test 128 player servers. Otherwise they would have called it a demo, and it would have presumably been much more polished. Personally I wouldn't expect to be able to make a sound buying decision based on a beta so I can't understand why people are getting upset about an unfinished version which is not in any way being claimed to actually be a finished product....

It's a demo, they slap "beta" on it to explain away any bugs. Face it an actual beta is not going to be released 4 weeks before the finished game.

Yes it’sa beta, but at the same time you sold early access to it and this is what we get? Not a great look and why give everyone a build that is a few months old?

Kind of hilarious that he is rebuking anyone in such an arrogant tone as if we haven't seen this bullshit with every "beta" demo released by DICE since BF3.

Between BF 1 and 5, which one to get? Which has less snipers and campers and more team play?

Beta by defintion:

Beta’ is a standard term to denote a milestone release during production in which game functionality is included and optimized (but may have bugs), game content is finished (but may have some implementation errors), and which is considered nearly complete. Beta represents the sum total of what the game will be, and content or functionality changes beyond beta are usually considered to be outside the framework of a publishing contract (called ‘change control’).
Now that means we should have been able to play more maps, able to use all weapons, specialist and all game modes, even if they had bugs. A beta means all of the content is there.
One map, only four specialist, no custom skins, no Portal, no Hazard Zone, unfinished UI etc. The content isn't finished, only the base idea of the game exists which means it's a demo.

Game demo by definition:

Generally, playable demos are stripped-down versions of the full game, restricting gameplay to some levels, only allowing access to some features, or limiting the amount of time playable in the game.

But that was exactly my point, I'm not in any way trying to be arrogant, these betas from Dice have always been shit yet people still seem to expect it to be pretty much the finished article....

An interesting post doing the rounds on reddit and on the offical forums, is it possible this was a battle royale game initially then suddenly reworked into a battlefield game?

I am, however, incredibly intrigued by a Reddit post I saw from u/androbird by way of u/gspotslayer69XX that implies that all of the issues with BF2042 are the result of the game being originally designed as a battle royale or competitor to COD warzone as opposed to a true sequel to a Battlefield game.

In Androbird's post, he makes one really good point that I have not heard anyone else articulate. He notes that the T weapon config makes more sense in BR game where players don't change loadouts between respawns because you only have one life. Being able to select attachments on the fly would be much more helpful in this type of scenario.

This also explains the incredibly large map design, the curious number of 4x4 vehicles lying around the map, and the state of no specific faction content or scoreboard.

After reading Androbird's post, I realized that he is accurate as hell. DICE is a very capable development studio and I really struggled to understand the disconnect between what was advertised to fans and what we actually played. At some point, I agree with Androbird that there was likely an internal pivot within EA/DICE and someone decided to morph what was previously designed as a BR competitor into a game with the word Battlefield on it.

It feels like that. It doesn't feel like war at all. It feels like your just trying to survive.
The maps are too big and doesn't encourage holding any point on the map and push from there.

Battlefield always been about meeting resistance and pushing through.

Well, we don’t know that the “maps” are too big. We’ve only seen one.

I never noticed that the factions were basically the same until you mentioned it. All of those points make sense, kinda fishy.

See where Orbital is?
Every other franchise had much smaller maps for resistance battles.

Theres bigger ones to come, that map with the city in it has a desert portion as well and it's meant to be huge.

128 players on Caspian would be amazing. Would have kinda turned into an outdoor Metro map. That's all out war.
The maps didn't need to grow in size, just more places for infantry to take cover or go through tunnels.

Would like to know as well. I never bought BF1, is it any good? Are there still active servers with players?

Or does it offer any type of CoOp so my son and can play together.

Infantry maps are usually fenced off and made smaller on purpose which makes them less of a Chariots of Fire Quincy Jones type of thing.

Ok? How does that change the fact that we’ve only seen one map? You’re also comparing 128 player map to 64
Look at how big the maps are compared to previous Battlefields. There's no reason why they should be that big unless they were designed around a different play style i.e. Royale.
Maps don't scale in size, the rest of the empty slots will be filled with bots. Seeing one map is all I need to know about how empty the maps will feel.

Did you play the Beta? There's nothing going on in there center, any area just outside the objective and the entire launch pad area.

orbital was really chaotic considering its size compared to narvik. I guess the 5 second respawn timer didn't help. I'm glad the beta is over, that was a nightmare I want to put behind me and hope for better things in the future lol.

I have played it. And had no problems finding a gun fight.
