I had terrible network lag first try yesterday. Hope I can have better results today....all in all the game looks promising otherwise

Not a fan of the map they have or the way vehicles spawn. Seems like the center of the map is a giant area for infantry to play around and vehicles don't seem to make it in that much (although I did once in a tank, got a lot of kills). Seems like there is generally enough infantry to lock down an area. If vehicle spawns were available outside of each times starting point I think that would help create the more dynamic experience of previous games. Could just be the map and new players.

Not liking the fire or explosions, seem a bit underwhelming graphically.

This Little Bird decided to fly down here at the wrong time:

Not too big on the kit bashing weapons especially mid gameplay. Grapple seems like a gimmick and just ruins the flow of gameplay, IMO. Lots of people parachuting down around the map which makes it a bit too chaotic.

So far, kind of mixed. I think it is okay.

I mean...that's enough time I put in. I give the game a D+/C- for a beta. They didn't give us anything close to the retail game so what's the point of releasing this?
Anyway, I got it on GamePass so no dedicated funds for this game. I just don't think the game with it's current theme will get me to put in 300+ hours like BF3.

Lastly, I experienced a glitch at the loadout screen. All the character skins were visible from past BF games, about 8 of them. It happened right at the beta launch.
Finally played tonight for about 30 minutes and agree, the quality of this beta is not a good look to sell the final product. I mean, no map? like common. let players know where to go. how is this suppose to attract buyers when a core feature is missing? also the respawn timer basically is, don't want to wait? hit space bar to respawn now. its in rough shape but theres alot to like. I see the potential and I don't think the changes would take long to do. Might save my key on cdkeys at release and buy ea play $5 month to try it, if its bad I'll refund my key. the release is going to be super interesting. the sprint speed is a little too fast. tactical sprint should have a limit.

Been dying for this game, the last good Battlefield game to me was BF4.

Playing last night, very laggy and choppy. Graphics even at highest settings are nothing special. And this map is rather lame and just not holding my attention, don’t like the layout and big center area of map.

Anytime I’m in a vehicle, it’s blown up very quick. And snipers getting me a lot near the spawn bases, I walk out of the base, and pop killed by snipers

Seemed to be no real squad team play. Felt like everyone was solo.

I am very disappointed so far.

I don't know what games you guys have been getting in with snipers but they haven't even remotely been a problem. Don't stand still and you won't get smoked.

This "beta" build is rough even by DICE/EA standards. Despite having a stable 50ms connection I consistently see vehicles and infantry warping all over the place, its particularly noticeable with helis and jets travelling in one direction only to do instant 90 and 180 degree turns and appearing several metres in front of their original position. I wonder whether it has something to do with shitty matchmaking seeing as DICE has omitted a server browser which probably means too many players with shitty connections being pooled into the same server. Seen plenty of other bugs such as a vehicle gunner rotating around the driver's seat, bound keys not working, screen jitter when proning against slopes, etc.

Also as a self confessed heli whore from DC and BF2 - 4, the physics and handling of the helicopters is just terrible. I can still clean up with the Little Bird despite it being seriously under powered, but god damn it is just not fun to fly it. I still need to take the tanks for a whirl, and then will play around with the infantry.

It seems that old cliche is still relevant for battlefield games;

Takes about a year after release for the game to be patched and updated before it's good.

Holiday season is the reason. The amount of sales they’ll lose from people who decide not to buy it due to beta bugs pales in comparison to lost sales from releasing it after the holidays. Nothing new to see here, not with the timing of its release and not with a buggy BF game.

It will take awhile to get polished. No doubt. Portal still gives me hope though.

I am not having any of these lag issues so far. Game seems to run consistently smooth for me. I do have fiber optic with a brand new connection and setup.

5600xNvme, 32 gb sys ram at 3600 and a 2080 super at 3440x1440 is above 70 fps at medium settings.

The game runs smooth for me too. Playing at highest settings @ 3440 X 1440p 120fps with my RTX-3080 and 32GB RAM.

But there is network lag. Planes blow up and come down slow and blocky. Or planes flying overhead some go and pause and then go then pause.

Gameplay feels choppy and I don't mean graphics but like lag or something?

Also the graphics even maxed out don't look especially great, honestly barely different than BF4.

Overall to me the game seems like it's months from release, needs a ton of polishing and updating to make it better.

I'm a huge Battlefield fan, but the last few games, BF5 and stuff we're rather poor and mediocre. And BF2042 isn't holding my excitement like I thought it would so far

Yep. it seems like they're going to force this one.

The skins are terrible, doesn't feel like war. It's like a weekend airsoft match with people that dressed up in tactical gear.
They should just release the beta with all the weapons, gadgets and skins unlocked, so we can see what's possible and how we want to configure our solider.

No beta for Hazard Zone and Portal? Man, if they don't delay this game until March-June it's going to be a disaster.
For the record, I waited 6 months to buy BF4 because it was unplayable until they began the CTE.

2042 needs CTE, not this Beta.

Try disabling nVidia Reflex in your graphics settings. I'm getting much smoother game play with it disabled.

Same here, there's just nothing special about it. They killed the class system and this specialist system just makes the game even more of a lone wolf game as you can have a mish mash of weapons for practically any scenario. I don't get why they replaced the class system at all, they all had a purpose and a function, this really just smacks of dice changing something for the sake of changing it. All you see running about the map is multiple haggered old men or elderly females and it really looks strange. As said above the skins just do not look like a war game, they did the same thing with Battlefield V and it was much later in the games life that you could actually have skins that were proper army skins, only took months of complaints (yet again dice learns fuck all from previous games).

I just don't get what they're trying to do with this game, it's like they're scraping the barrel for ideas and killing the class system somehow seemed like a good idea, as well as slapping in a tornado thats a glorified elevator for infantry to fuck around with. I see this game launching as a giant clusterfuck, remember battlefield v was also delayed by a month and it was a buggy, unfinished piece of shit that had multiple features missing for over a year until they finally got patched in. For EA to claim in February this game was ahead of schedule to me is baffling considering what they released as a glorified demo.

"Unplayable" for six months isn't accurate, IMO. I played the game every day from launch forward at the time. But I know different people will have different tolerances.

It had it's problems, no doubt. Crashed every 5th or 6th game in the middle of a round on Shanghai. But was still playable, and fun as hell.

The game was completely different after CTE, I wasn't giving them any money until they fixed the game.
Unplayable also means the game can't be enjoyed, which can be relative. There are plenty of posts and videos of frustrated gamers during that time.

Plus Dice actually issued a statement about the state the game released in, a first considering theyve had plenty of shonky releases, seems to be their specialty.

Once again you nailed it. I do like the chaotic aspect, but the incentive structure does feel like its been tilted away from teamplay - like revives, dropping medpacks or ammopacks (nobody does, ever) and seems to encourage a lonewolf meta.

I still want to see all the maps and modes first before trying to judge the new system solely on one big conquest map.

That was your personal choice then to not play, and it's understandable. Videos of "frustrated gamers" mean little though because most are incapable of nuance. And all the other people finding enjoyment in a game aren't constantly posting videos about it.

All I take exception with is the all-or-nothing mentality most people seem to have in their complaints, even the most minor shit is "10/10 worst thing ever". No measured or tempered consideration of how big a deal it really is in the overall, just "iTz ToTaLlY BroKeN".

And then that gets regurgitated by people not even playing the game "I heard it's totally broken". The reality is always more nuanced.

If good old conquest battlefield is in this bad of shape in the beta I wonder what portal and hazard zone are like. I won't be surprised if they announce those will be coming after release, which will be an instant refund for me. We haven't seen gameplay from either of those modes. I guess they are confident in the release build, reviews will be good and they will sell alot of copies for the holidays. I hope...

I agree. Thought it is a new game, people are messing around learning, and the map is new. I think the map itself is fairly lame. Vehicles only spawning at the HQ creates an odd flow. Unless I am missing something. I know you can call in transport vehicles but didn't seem to be able to call in tanks. I think the capture point based vehicle spawns worked better. I'm not 100% opposed to restricting weapons by class, but they removed most of the class incentives. Which makes the classes feel worthless. I'd be happy with the BF4 class restrictions which had a lot of leeway. Just allow PDW/SMGs for other classes aside from engineer and I'd be fine with that.

I've yet to see a tornado but don't want to. The few instances where there was some good gameplay flow might have been screwed up by the tornado.

The game is good and has a lot to offer but it is only for those who have the opportunity to play, high speed internet and for those with strong pc, European pc elite, who has 1050ti can forget about maps with 128 players, the minimal configuration is not holds water.
What is bad is that the open beta is very bad, lag and everything else, the game is a copy or mix of all previous sequels of battlefield games, from bf3 to bf1 and 5.
They could at least make a better open beta, if they don’t fix it all and probably won’t all, it will be rubbish, after a year it will be balanced and patched.
It's probably doing so on purpose and it's not something new, everyone will put a c4 on a drone or something else that will be exploited.
I don't know if any other beta was made so badly, I played on low and I had a solid fps up to 100fps indoors but it could drop to 50 outdoors and the graphics at low is really rubbish. At low it's really not worth playing because the game looks really ugly.
With this open beta they just turned down buyers but it probably means nothing to them because they will sell whatever they throw out, people will buy because all that matters is that it is a new battlefield.
I don't know if this beta is like a couple of months old, but most of it is probably copy-paste considering all the possible previous sequels, I don't understand game programming, so I can't say anything.
The movement is not fast, throwing a grenade is now stupid and slow but realistic, in bf1 and previous sequels you need to know how to throw a grenade and where you want, I don't know how it is here.
And the map is garbage and as i said the graphics are very bad at low.
The aiming is somehow blurred, that's mostly what I noticed but I didn't have the will to continue playing because the lag spoils everything and the bad graphics. Also half the thing works and then it doesn’t work.

Did they forget to put lights in the tunnel or is it suppose to be like this? This beta is just so bad. I don't think i'll put more than an hour in. that scope I have on is so buggy I can't switch to the close range sight half the time.

This has been the case with literally every BF release. Every new iteration pushes even higher end hardware and it is one of the things people actually like about the franchise because you actually get something in return if you're able to feed it what it needs. This is especially true when a new release is also coupled with new more capable consoles as is the case here. 2042 has significantly larger maps and double the player count as the titles that came before it.

I've been able to call in a tank once. Most of the time it's unavailable.

I have a fairly high end PC; RTX-3080. 32GB DDR4. Solid state drive. i9-9900k. Playing on my 34” Ultrawide.

I have the game settings maxed out, and it just looks ok, nothing groundbreaking, or super amazing compared to previous Battlefield games. The graphics are good, but not jaw dropping or anything. At least on this one map in the beta, to me the game looks almost no different than BF4.

I also have high-speed Cable modem direct internet connection, and the game feels laggy and choppy network wise. But other games I play have very low latency and play smooth.

That is called "PC gaming". The best PC games have always pushed the limit. If you can't afford a mid to high end gaming PC there is this thing called a console.

But what boundaries is BF2042 pushing? Graphics are nothing special.

Maybe finally doing 128 players per map, ok. But MMO’s do thousands of players at once.

I agree having a high end PC is great for next gen gaming. But this new Battlefield seems to offer nothing “next gen” it seems stuck in 2013.

The graphics are slightly better than BFV while having maps twice as large, that's not a small improvement. Beyond that, there's more to a game than just eye candy. Especially when we are talking about MP shooters. 128 players adds significant CPU load, server load and network load. Network lag is also quite normal during the beta phase, network performance is the primary thing they are testing during the open beta. MMO's aren't even in the same ball park. Most of the time you're just wandering around doing nothing, are perfectly playable at 25-30 fps, can have a lethargic tick rate and no one would notice.

Hasn't been great, but hasn't been bad or horrible. Its about what I expected from a Battlefield game in 2021. I'll be keeping my preorder and play on release like all the other battlefields. I don't play COD multiplayer so this game is perfect for me. Helicopters need a counter, AAA or stingers unless I missed them but I consider that just beta bullshit.

Overall, its fine, not great but what I expected from a battlefield game.

The power of a coordinated team and a "pro" BF heli pilot.

He would't last near as long if stingers didn't have the insane lock on time they do currently, plus they're bugged so they don't always go after the target, sometimes they just fly straight up and vanish.

Just played for half hour and had fun. Tanks rock, I wanna see huge open land maps with tons of tanks.
