Battlefield 2042

Well. My old crew is excited about portal. Having our own server back again is so huge. To be able to play organized matches again!!!

Armored Fist is who we are btw. We used to be able to play 32v32 with just us but it was always fun to play other clans/teams. We already have all the infrastructure bits and pieces to get going again. Luckily we have some very organized individuals who have kept everything from way back. So getting going again should be smooth. Hit me up if you are an old school player or just want to play battlefield in a team play setting.
so password protected servers and scrims are going to be a thing again?

was waiting for an announcement like this...probably will be handy to learn the tricks

Yeah. We will have password matches again for sure. I will post the contact in a bit. Making breakfast ATM. If there is any kind of organized game going on we will be in the middle of it. I would LOVE to bring back something like the old twl and cal ladders.

Discord link. Just introduce yourself. Conversation about the game is ongoing already.

I noticed that BF2042 is up for preorder on Steam.

Does that mean we won’t need the origin app and can do it all through steam now? That'd be great as I never liked that origin thing anyway
According to the info pane on the Steam page it will require the full Origin client.

Oh, I miss the HardOCP Battlefield clan of old when we played 3 and 4. The memories of us moving as a squad and doing objectives and coming out as top squad on every map having adult fun. I hope we get revived because I'm sharpening my knife for knife kills and honing my mortar accuracy.

I hope there will be servers that only allow spawning on the squad leader. thats what made bf2 somewhat tactical, I can't remember if bf3 or 2142 had it.

feels like the original crysis game, movement too fast. I'm not impressed. the open beta will be interesting. its just bland. these thoughts are based on your video.
I agree. The guy looks like he's running 20 MPH. Also, what is with the COD-style sliding? Guess it makes sense since I posted a link that said they brought in some former COD devs for this one...

Yeah hoping the change that and also hoping that video is sped up. Kind of looks like it is but hard to tell. Weapon reload animations looked slow but movement fast so maybe that is how the game plays currently.

it looks like he's running fast cause his FOV is turned up. but movement is still fast. the sliding is too much in my opinion, bf5 it was just enough. I think/hope this is a really old build and its for server testing. the good news is most of the people in the playtest are probably BF vets, they know what they want, so I hope they listen.

also, in portal you can change movement speed.

Hmmm everytime I load up the game, its basically all pink and messed up. I can see the BF logo and all, just doesnt let me do anything and eventually crashes.

Going to have to mess around with some settings. I figured it might be HDR, but that didnt do the trick.

The emulation of COD has been one of my long standing gripes with DICE since BF3. They have slowly been speeding up the gameplay by getting rid of tactical elements, e.g. by having infinite sprint, introducing an ammo pool, allowing spawning on any squad member, etc. It goes without saying that if I wanted to experience COD gameplay then I would play COD then God dammit!

Battlefield Portal is my only answer to those things.

Sad to say that's the answer to reducing the quick COD gun play, but ATLEAST it's a solution.

I'm willing to bet there will be portal servers with gameplay and movement mechanic configurations to fit any ones needs.

this game will start off as cod, when the people who favor that type of gameplay leave to play the next cod, it will be mostly portal servers with custom configs being played is my guess. I worry dice will backtrack on the portal stuff and we won't get as much control as we think. Wasn't BF5 suppose to get some custom server settings but they decided not to?

If your testing the game and are unhappy with anything then make sure to leave feedback guys. I won't get to play until the weekend but when I get the email surveys for feedback I always fill them out.

for sure.

People may be placing too much premature faith on Portal solving these issues. From what I have read, there doesn't appear to be any permanency unless someone is in the server, once they leave - poof, the server gets spun down, so whilst you may find a server to your liking one day there is no guarantee its going to be there the next day unless it proves to be popular. I also expect that if any one can easily put up a server with minor permutations in settings and gameplay then at least for the first couple of months we will see thousands of individual servers with either 1 or a handful of players on them - fragmentation by unlimited choice. All speculation, but I still haven't seen a good explanation from DICE as to how it will work in practice.

The article clearly states the video is from an alpha build too. Don't know why people here don't understand that, am I in the right forum?

There are people on this forum that still believe EA/DICE's build naming conventions? Where I have I heard this before?

Its only an alpha! Followed by its only a beta! Followed by its only a retail release! Followed by lol all DICE games are buggy, you need to wait for it be patched for 12 months before its playable!!

With only two months to go I highly doubt the game is not feature complete. Game developers and publishers use build cycle names for marketing, not what point they are in the development cycle. I don't doubt that things will be tuned between now and release, but nothing significant is going to change.

Exactly, I don't think I have ever tested an alpha or beta build of an EA game that underwent significant gameplay changes before retail release.....only bug fixes and performance improvements.

Well. The bug fixes took a wee bit longer than release to fix. Except bf1? I think that was a pretty good launch.

That alpha gameplay doesn't look very impressive and agreed that its very fast.

I would look more at the reveal videos for a representation of gameplay which seems very BF4 than this technical test. People seem to forget at the end of the day that's what this is.

In fairness, people freaked out at the BF4 alpha leaks too "omg it'll look like that!"

I reckon they conduct these tests under NDA because it's still in development, and things like impressing people with graphics isn't necessarily the data they're after in these tests.

To be fair, in BF3, they added an odd blue filter between the alpha version and open beta. But I don't see any major gameplay changes coming.

The aesthetic appearance of the game in the leaked footage is the least of my worries.

I get that. But why worry at all? We have leaks of a months old build from a technical test. I'm certainly not going to start hyperventilating into a paper bag just because the predictable naysayer(s) want people to.

The leaks aren't even a bad thing, other than being clickbait fodder for the blogs and youtubers, and useless noise they generate- "EA LIED about BF2042?" ... "THIS is the FINAL build?!?!?" Buncha clowns. The upside is it at least gives the arguments about things like movement speed a chance to rage online - before the open beta - and DICE sees all of it.

This guy is interesting, he datamines Battlefield files and seems to uncover quite a bit. This part about Hazard Zone mode caught my eye, where he believes it will be a mix of Tarkov and Hunt Showdown -- both great games, so I'm not necessarily hating the premise.
