Destiny 2

With gaming for the Infamy reset I am seeming to be more critical of other players. A few disappointing games where people just gave up, milled around, or blocked folk from invading by invading and then just spent the time emoting on their side.. another yahoo was holding 15 motes and refused to bank. Was there, looked at the bank, and then opted to go shoot more things. Other people who are doing some killing but not collecting. Ugh. People!

Welcome to Gambit.

15k. I honestly don't know if I have the patience for that.

Dude, I had like 4.4k, and that was painful enough. 15 would be brutal, and the most value you'll get is upgrade modules that you can farm the next double reward Nightfall anyway. I have so many gunsmith materials (with nothing to do with them) that I debate deleting some every time I have to deconstruct.

Crap. I guessed that it was 15k.

I just want to go play Valheim!

I started trying to get rid of my tokens, made is 300 tokens in and said fuck this lol. Really wish/hope they just gave us some kind of auto redemption for them, like every 1000 tokens is an ascendant shard or something actually useful.

Well that whole system changed as of 13 minutes ago. Any tokens you didn't redeem are gone...

Like 15k of mine. I gave up after redeeming 3000 of them.

ya, figured they would just disappear today with the changes, it just wasn't worth the energy to redeem thousands of them for gear thats all just dismantle trash anyways :(

So far the season looks better than the last.

I have however had a few crashes already since the update, with literally no crashes last season. Doing pvp now for part of the catalyst. I hate pvp now...

Edit: Had it crash again after posting this. Not cool.

Same here. There is a noticeable uptick in sudden CTDs. Yes, I verified files.

EDIT: It's bad enough I'm shelving in until I see or hear about a fix.

I finished redeeming about 3,000 crucible tokens last night. I started earlier this season with 23,000 or something like that.

I'm... probably going to have to come back to this. I cannot seem to make myself feel anything other than "meh" over Destiny right now. I'm sure I will get hungry again eventually, but right now even if there were a game drought I don't think I could force myself to play this game.

Logged in today, watched the new cutscenes, played through the new Strike, explored the new HELM (which was the highlight, unfortunately), started the new Darkness ability mission... and then just abruptly logged out. "Grinding is gaming" is just not me. Like I said, I'll probably be back at some point, but I can't do it right now.

I'm not going to be killing myself. I know what you mean.

I have the same play cycle with Destiny every season. I'll hit the ground hard and grind my ass off for about three weeks. Spending nearly every moment of free time doing everything. Then, I'll be burnt out and not give a shit for the rest of the season. I'll come back and mop up anything I missed on the last week or two and then the cycle repeats. However, this time the last couple of seasons really wore me down. This last season started off strong and I enjoyed the expansion and the raid. Then, we had surprisingly little to do for the rest of the season. Hawkmoon was "meh" and I haven't found much motivation after that. I logged in today, and I'm not feeling it.

Man, I'm feeling this today. I was a bit excited until last night. So tired of the power leveling. I wanted to grind the catalyst for the season exotic bow. Cool. Wait, I need to grind out season pass levels first to make it tolerable. Ok, what about the new grenade launcher? I youtube it....Gambit seems to be the quickest farm method. I hop into gambit and invaded right away with a dude carrying Eyes of Tomorrow. Next invade a warlock drops 3 nova bombs in one invade....so cheater? I died twice on that one. I turned it off. I'm still at the point of being a little confused on how the hammer works, why I should grind all those quests out when the same Variks stuff literally was a waste of time last season. Horde mode is neat, but kinda gets repetitive quickly. I'm not even gonna bother grinding stasis fragments or getting stasis on my other two characters.

It says something to me that the only thing exciting me right now is I will get the Always on Time sparrow by this time next week. I'm at the point of wanting to mix it up with a different game. A break would do me good.

I'm pretty much turned off by the constant Artifact grind. I got up to like 290 last season, but I got on last night after a couple of weeks off, and I just couldn't get into it again, it almost felt painful. I think I might be done, although I've said that before.

Sunsetting content will kill Destiny, it was always the worst decision they could make.

Its definitely killed my enjoyment of the game. I used to grind good rolls on every weapon. I'd save one of everything in my vault for when the meta switched, as you never knew what the best gun would be in the future. I'm not going to grind for weapons that are going to only be viable for two or three seasons and then become useless. I can earn a serviceable weapon in minutes and rock that until its replaced. I will only masterwork decent ones for orb generation but the vast majority, I won't bother with. Cost / benefit just isn't there. Same for armor, I'm not masterworking armor that will only be good for a couple seasons. I'm also not going to grind the best rolls for that shit. RNG in this game is terrible. Those god rolls take dozens of hours or more to grind per item. I've gotten dozens of clears of the new raid and still don't have Eyes of Tomorrow. Even their so called "bad luck protection" doesn't ever seem to help me.

Also, without pinnacle weapons to chase in PvP, I have zero desire to put up with that shit. I play enough to get the story content done and if there are ships or something, I'll earn those as they don't get sunset. But past that, I don't care enough about gear that's artificially transient. To keep things fresh, changing the meta and inventing new weapons with interesting perks and playstyles would be enough to keep me going. This never required sunsetting. I feel like using anything in a game like Destiny should largely be my choice. It's bad enough that the meta makes only a handful of choices viable at any time in harder content.

Beyond that, I think it's absolute bullshit that Bungo will sunset gear one season and then re-issue it the very next season to make us regrind for it. Fuck off Bungie.

Great insight (I don't play enough, only a couple hundred hours since launch) my thoughts on sunsetting was pretty simple, Bungie has a game built to grind, replay the same content over and over and over (make your own story up was the line from 1 I believe) so having all the content is a boon to the grind. Removing it showed me two things (yes this is opinion):

1. their new content was going to be lackluster and needed everything else vaulted to push sales.

2. Their team lacks the ability/capability to design the game in a way that thrives with all content in it (weapons, balance, etc).

I think its the balance that is the main issue and maintaining the balance of old items was deemed to costly on the corporate side so they sunset it, but I am also biased in the belief that the mad standard to which we try to balance games ruins the fun and thus the game.

That's just it. There are activities where light level doesn't matter. As a result, you can still use those older weapons. One of which is PvP. Even after sunsetting, they still made adjustments to Mountaintop because it was OP. In other words they aren't deleting those weapons and where they cause the most trouble is in the Crucible. The one place you can still use weapons regardless of their light level. Iron Banner and Trials enable light level, but standard Crucible does not. They way they are doing it, they aren't eliminating the need to balance those old weapons and weapon archetypes.

Well then IDK, never cared much for the PVP in Destiny, only ever did it to get a few weapons, I much preferred the PvE.

This whole thing has really soured me. I kept holding up Destiny 2 as, while not perfect, the best of the games as a service. It was in a particularly good spot until beyond light and I had finally convinced my gaming group to give it a shot, then sunset happened.

I couldn't agree with you guys more.

I like the new exotic bow but to finish the catalyst off requires 50 guardians. I've never been that good with bows in PVP so I'll be amazed if I ever get that done. I find that I'm not hitting this with a lot of gusto although I like some of the setup here.

If it's anything like the shotgun from last season, those kills will be done by just playing pvp. I had those kills done last season in a few games while the gun was in my vault.

I think since going F2P Bungie has discovered that bored Players spend more money at Eververse. Sounds backwards, but I see it and hear of others doing it. They log in, mull about, find nothing compelling, blow some Silver for the new Shiney thing, mull about some more, and log out until the next reset hoping for some actual content. They love the game, but also hate the state its in. They don't want to give up on it, but they don't really want to play it either.

It's like staying in a bad relationship because of the time invested and the fear of being lonely... only here it is the habit (instead of fear) of having something to do.

Positive point regarding that

I feel attacked.

^^ Haha nice.

Am I nuts or are the umbral engrams and rank increases with this new setup happening quite slowly and sparsely? What gets Umbral engram drops? I want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Bungie intentionally reduced the drop rate from the previous season that had them. Frankly, we got too many of them.

Ok... well... I didn't really feel that way but in any event it seems like it's a bit much in the other direction now. Kind of stingy. I guess I just won't be getting some things done at this rate.

I thought the drops were too frequent and I wasn't alone. I spent way too much time going back to the tower and decrypting the Umbral engrams. I felt like I had to spend way too much time managing gear and loot. But, I do agree they probably lowered the drop rate too much.

LOL ok I'll concede that much because that was true.

There's probably a happy medium somewhere on this. Maybe make the engrams "worth more per drop" for the ranking up or something.

I quit out of the beginning mission on my Titan character, and sort of just did some Europa stuff. I go to the HELM and I need an umbral engram to proceed and one won't drop.

Kind of amazing.

Might be able to pull from the season pass, otherwise just do some playlist stuff, it'll drop.
