Destiny 2

I'm digging this new exotic bow.
I think it was really well done and its a ton of fun to use in PvE.

Though, i misspoke earlier. The second step to unlock the catalyst requires 50 Guardian kills WITH that bow. Oof.

Believe it or not I'm at almost 30. Pure blind luck. I like the bow enough that I'm just messing around. If I'm not aiming down the sight with it it does this targeting of sorts that I've been lucky with. I might get this done.

Mayhem is going to be useful for some quick and easy "cashing up." I'm going to be in there quite a bit for the next few days.

I quit out of the beginning mission on my Titan character, and sort of just did some Europa stuff. I go to the HELM and I need an umbral engram to proceed and one won't drop.

Kind of amazing.
Weird, I quit out of it as well because I didn't have time to do the mission, I was able to log back in later that night and go to Nessus to do the first battle and got my engram no problem.

I'll give it another shot; I ran three Battlegrounds via the Vanguard core playlist and didn't get a single umbral engram. I did somehow progress through the HELM War Table intros. I'm a bit mixed up, and will see how to get this character back on track.

And here I was thinking I was just behind on finishing the Beyond Light stuff only.

The engram drops are stingy as hell now. We went from one extreme to the other now IMO.

I have barely moved the needle on the ranking meter for the table. It's ridiculous.

Crud. Now I have to do Ordeal (fine) and more Crucible/Gambit stuff to get the catalyst for this bow. Good grief.

Someone set me straight here. I see that Trails of Osiris tokens are tied into this, too, and since I basically never do that I understand nothing will happen on that end. Am I also looking at the "ranking up" for the engrams and the recaster? Because if I am then I contend that the engrams at least need to have more value per drop because I have done most of the weeklies, lots of Battleground, and some other odds and ends and probably focused/decrypted a dozen or so of them and that's all I have to show for it. I understand not wanting too much in quantity like last time but I think their value is way too low for ranking as is if I'm gauging this correctly.

Incidentally, I'm at 1270 and I see people at 1285 and higher even a couple of days back. How did they do it?

Aztecross pointed out there is a buff at rank 22 or 27 (don't remember) on the Season Pass that cuts the grind down to a quarter of what it normally is. He recommended waiting to do it until you've hit that rank.

Yup definitely waiting for that.

if anyone needs to do the heroic exo challenge for the stasis quest hit me up in game.
if it was any one but the "tower defense" one I could maybe solo it.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here? Ranking up the recaster is so you can more specifically target pieces of loot to focus. I think the drop rate of the engrams now more correctly matches the requirments needed to rank it up. You'll notice you can focus an engram with no charges on the hammer but the pool of available loot when you do that is so large its almost not worth it.

By ranking it up, you can unlock the the ability to focus more specifically like say just SMG's and Sidearms or just Gauntlets, etc.. However, those cost charges on the hammer. The time it takes you get the charges and how much it costs to focus those specific weapons/armor seems to, so far, to match how many engrams you get while charging the hammer.

There is a whole mini-game to leveling. I think i've talked about it many times in the past in this thread. It takes a little understanding to how leveling works and using 3rd party tools like Destiny Power Bars (my new favorite, though there are many tools that do this)

https://destiny-power-bars.corke.dev/

Ignore my Titan and Hunter, i'm taking this season slow so I haven't even touched them. Also i'm really not putting in that much work in general this season so far, no raid to prep for. There are people like Gernader Jake who were over 1300 BASE (no artifact power) a few days ago.

First things first lets separate BASE Power and ARTIFACT Power. Base power is your power level BEFORE the bonus you receive from the artifact. In fact lets ignore artifact power entirely.

I'll try to do a basic breakdown. The overall rule is you always want to make sure every slot is as even as possible before you get your next Prime/Powerful/Pinnacle drop to maximize your return and there are a number of ways to do that.

  • Pulling armor pieces from the season pass. (And last seasons season pass if you didn't grab everything!) These will drop ON LEVEL. The worst thing you can do is the second you gain a season pass level is just immediately grab that armor piece. If leveling efficiently matters in your case, this really hurts you.
  • World drop Blues can help even out low slots. If you don't want to pull from the season pass, just running strikes can sometimes help you even out your slots.
  • Focusing engrams sometimes and this must just be random Destiny stuff, has the chance to drop high or on level.

Looking below, look at the bar labeled "Maximum equippable gear power:" You see how on the left and right of that bar it shows 1290 and 1291? I'm one gear piece power level away from getting to 1291. My highest power gauntlets are 1289 but you can see below my max gear power is 1290. So, if I pull a pair of gauntlets from the season pass, they'll drop at 1290, filling in that bar and raising my overall max gear power to 1291.

All said and done, this means to really go nuts, you have to be checking sites like this after every major drop to get everything as even as possible before going for that next Powerful/Pinnacle/Prime.

Now below, I don't know if I have the patience to really try to get just my gauntlets up one power level so I may just go for that next Pinnacle anyway.

Then, there is the Tiering system to Powerfuls. You want to make sure you're doing your Teir 1's, then all Tier 2's, then Pinnacles to maximize this process.

There is some more nuance to this process but we could be here for days. I hope that makes sense.

When I finally decided to play my Titan and Hunter, using the above as an example, it'll go quick to get them up to level. As you can see the max gear score for them is 1271 so if I get armor drops, they'll be above that. I could have my 1260 max gear armor pieces immediately upgrade to 1276 on the first drop.

Tried that on day one but was too under leveled to solo it. I have a ways to go before I'll try again. How bad was the whole thing?

Ok, you set me straight on some things. I've saved the link to your post, too. Thanks! :)

New Exotic "Whisper Style" mission you start from inside the Nightfall.

Probably going to to be the Dead Mans Tale exotic scout. Stopped watching any streams to do this blind later.

https://twitter.com/Ekuegan/status/1361730728833155081?s=20

Also Palindrome is now farmable in the Nightfall this week.
Nice, something to work on now that the power is back on. Been freezing our ass off for a day and a half with no power here in West Houston. People all over the state with no power the past day and a half.

It does not look good, glad you have power again!

Got my sparrow (Always on Time), a palindrome drop, and the new scout today.

Also jumped into Trials for the first time yesterday and got my three wins and a few decent rolls of the messenger.

As much as this game can frustrate me it certainly does some things very well. The new mission was a good time to run blind. Good stuff.

Random rolls for this exotic too, huh… gee I’m not sure how I feel about this trend.

(Oh and I had to manually trigger the Battlegrounds on Nessus to officially “get” the umbral engram to proceed with the seasonal campaign!)

I believe dmg04 has responded on Reddit saying this will be the last exotic with random rolls for a while. If I find the post again I'll update for proof.

The mission is a fun one though. I didn't particularly like Harbinger (and kind of don't like doing it weekly).

Who ran 9 Arms Dealer nightfalls on 1300 with zero Palindrome drops? This guy.
Brutal, I only ran it once so far. Spent the rest of my evening doing the new exotic quest. Joined without any knowledge of it at all and it was a fucking blast, really enjoyed it. Guy I joined helped guide me through the mazes but had done the boss yet so we got to figure out the mechanics on the fly. Took 3 tries but we got it, so far I really enjoy the gun but now I need to farm out a good random roll

Who is never going to do that or be able to? This guy.

You can run the lower power versions, just the drop chance is less.

I want a Palindrome far more than the auto rifle from last weeks Nightfall.

That looks like a good quest. I agree about the Dead Space vibes, too. Nice. I hope can get that ship, too.

Never got the Coup de Grace ship. Didn't know there was one for the Pressage mission, huh.

Uh, same on both counts? You can actually still run Coup De Grace and it's super short, I still want that ship.

As for a Pressage ship, had no idea. There is the triumph for the 5 scannables which are only available on your second run through which you'll want to do anyway to actually get a perk on the scout.

I'll keep running Coup De Grace and hopefully get that ship eventually. Thanks for tips on Pressage.

That Dead Man's Tale Quest... I'm in awe. Well done Bungie. That definitely had Dead Space salutes along with some other things. I think there are some ramifications and openings in that for story threads and other threats that are going to have to be dealt with. I'm seriously impressed.

So what do I do next? Run that thing once every week again to try and get the ship and other drops? I saw people looking for distress signals and stuff in there while I was getting the gun. I'll check YouTube as well.

I went into the Dead Man's Quest blind (apart from knowing how to start it) and solo'ed it at 1256 last night. It was fun, I have to admit. Most fun I've had solo in Destiny in a long time. I'm going to try and solo flawless it today, and I usually don't even try to hope for such things. I'm assuming the "Scannables" are the tablets that were laying all over, but I will look them up before I do so I don't miss them.

You want to run it at least one more time to get a copy of the gun with an actual perk and not a question mark. The collectibles (5 of them) are only available to scan after the first run. Even if you watch a video to know where they are, you can't scan them until your second run. Oddly, they aren't the tablets you see everywhere but other random objects, we just watch a video. I think those tablets will be part of something as new things in this mission are supposed to happen/unlock as the weeks go on.

Cool, thanks.

I can assure you all that if I had gone in solo and mostly blind like I was when I went in with this team I wouldn't have known my nose from a hole in the wall so hat's off to anyone who pulled that off.

Honestly, solving the puzzles to make your way through it was 75% of the fun for me. That and the environment/sounds. We fight bosses all the time so that was just par for the course. Getting there though was pretty neat.

I took another run and got a new drop on the rifle. I was with another random team. By sheer accident, I found one random item that I investigated along the way.

So do I go back again this week or am I done? What should I do?
