New Mass Effect Game

I'm absolutely dead set against prequels. I hate them. They are confined by the narrative of other games or films. Rarely do they explore anything meaningful enough to be of any real interest. I absolutely disagree that a prequel was the way to go vs. Andromeda as a setting. In fact, the vote on BioWare's forums agrees with me. Nearly no one wanted a prequel. Stories are far less impactful when you know how they turn out and that's what you always get with prequels. I think Andromeda as a setting has a fountain of potential. It's a good basis to move forward even if the first game was flawed.
I don't like prequels either, but at this point I'd prefer a spinoff in the actual Milky Way galaxy set parallel to the trilogy than an Andromeda sequel. I'm really not that invested in finding out who created the angorians, oh wait that's a cat, I meant angarans.
And there were no characters of interest in Andromeda either, so I have zero wish to see any of them reappearing. About the only charismatic character in the game was the pathfinder who they kill off almost immediately.

Long story short I don't want Andromeda 2, unless it is set at least 50 years later than Andromeda 1, and has a brand new set of actually likeable characters.

I get what you're saying here, but I think the Mass Effect universe has enough lore potential to make a "prequel" without being predictable. Something that directly precedes the original trilogy (such as the first contact war), yeah, that makes sense. But what about going all the way back to Promethean times. It doesn't even have to exist within the reaper timeline of their race, they were around long enough to derive plenty of other narratives before that happened. Focus on the discovery of the mass relays, their expansion across the galaxy and their interaction with the species we know in Mass Effect in their infancy. I'd love to know more about the Prometheans in their prime instead of just their downfall.

That said, I don't disagree that Andromedia can also be a solid platform to continue to expand. I'm certainly not opposed to that direction either. There's no corner of that world I wouldn't mind seeing, and I'd never turn my nose up at more Mass Effect. It's one of my favorite franchises. Even Andromedia.

Id love a new one just like the first one with updated graphics......god i loved that one so much. I wonder if outer worlds will hold me over for the time being?

My idea was more reserved for an standalone expansion type of game rather than a full release.

Hasn't all the talent been drained away or left itself over the years?
I kinda feel like this is similar to the Valve situation where what made the first ones so amazing was almost akin to the colloquial phrase - catching lightning in a bottle.
Hope I am wrong and it turns out to be as amazing as ME1&2.

I liked Andromeda. Gameplay-wise It's better the the older games in a lot of ways. Probably most ways to be honest. Especially the first ME, which was a garbage game with a great story that kept you going. 2 and 3 were much better in terms of gameplay, but that first one was a stinker.
In terms of what I'd like to see, I'm okay with a prequel. It could be cool to experience the first encounters between humans and the other beings in the galaxy. On the sequel front, they could probably get away with setting it in the distant future. So far that the results of the 3rd game barely matter.

I thin Prequal would be harder to keep interesting than ME:A2, or ME4 (20 years after the reapers. Either way, the story needs to be really good. There are many unfinished story leads from ME1 and you could be dealing with the aftermath of the Reaper war and the recreation (fixing?) of the relay network. That's the one I'm leaning toward.

Andromeda 2...

Unlikely. Andromeda nearly killed the series. I see them staying as far away from it as possible.

I'd love to see a prequel. Flesh out the discovery of the mass relays. Let us participate in the first contact war. There's lots of lore there to explore.

Or rewrite the third game to not be garbage and then continue the series :O. Seriously though ME3's story was so bad I played it once and have never picked up the series since, despite replaying 1 and 2 numerous times.

I wouldn't mind that, but IMO should be for a side game. Maybe lesser in scope and shorter overall, unless they can make it full length.

I'll never complain about more Mass Effect but I don't expect to see this game anytime soon, the studio is a shell of its former self and they can't even get the next Dragon Age out the door..........

I'm in. Consider my money already spent. Even if it's just a remaster with updated graphics I'll still buy on day 1. This game is simply a masterpiece and I play all 3 usually once a year.

Probably be a day 1 buy for the new ME game as well. Even if it's just Andromeda 2 I'll be in for a copy. I really liked Andromeda. It wasn't a very good Mass Effect game but it was a still a good game.

I'm very excited.

I remember purchasing PlayStation 4 Pro to play Horizons.
About the same time ME: Andromeda was released.
I ditched Horizon and kept playing Andromeda. In my opinion it was a vastly better game than Horizon, which was praised but ultimately a crappy console quality open world rpg where you fought with sticks and stones against metal robots.

Interesting, that first picture looks like a human-built mass effect relay, maybe? we might be looking at post-Mass Effect 3's Milky Way galaxy in the next game, which could be interesting

It seems like it. Maybe it will be a new trilogy without Andromeda being taken into account, save for some nods to it. I wouldn't mind. They cut the DLC and there was clearly room for a sequel, since they never really finished the main story in it. But it seems like it would be hard to pick up and carry for a full game.

Its a little frustrating because andromeda wasn't bad it just had terrible pacing and glitches, by the end I was in and wanted to know more.

The problem with the pacing was largely due to it being an open world game. Finishing every side quest before leaving a planet removes any sense of urgency the story attempted to convey.

They could have done it with the open world, but they focused to much on early settlement building and left the central conflict till the very end. would have been better if the conflict also progressed while you did settlement building.

I remember when it finally kicked off and I though, why wasn't this building and happening from the beginning.

It didn't help that the antagonists were thoroughly generic and bland. Their motives were never summarized much. The first game had a more over arching plot, but still have a smaller antagonist that came full circle within the plot. Andromeda just lacked that, so it felt like you were just following waypoints and objectives and then the game ended.

At this point I'd rather have them just do a different trilogy, and they can revisit Andromeda as a smaller side game, like Far Cry Primal/New Dawn. Shorter, maybe cheaper in price, smaller in scope. Just tie up the loose ends.

Another problem is that the original trilogy had the Reapers. Starting the first game they are a myth, borderline crackpot theory. But when Sovereign talks down to you on (virmire?)... Fuggetaboutit! One of the all time great Evil reveals of all time. (imho, of course) I know ME:A was going to have trouble filling those shoes, and the pacing disaster caused by allowing you to wander so unchecked for so long made it worse. But I agree with Aireoth- By the end I wanted to know more, and wondered if the third game was going to be us going to deal with them in their home galaxy (after the first wave, and us stealing the jump/wormhole/stargate tech).

i thought the Milky Way was the reaper's home galaxy, they just retreated into dark space (beyond the Milky Way) until the time was right to fuck shit up again

Yeah, which is why they couldn't (~ish) show up in Andromeda. But the Kett were actually kinda interesting and deeper than some people think, since some of the power struggles and intra-agency infighting was easy to miss (scanner items in-game)

I actually enjoyed Andromeda (beat it twice) which means as long as this game is at least that good (or bad, I guess), I will enjoy it too.

Paging Dan_D, paging Dan_D to the new Mass Effect game thread :D

I'm hyped I guess... if Shepard really is returning as the teaser seems to imply, I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on the game to see how it develops. Hopefully it's not like 3 years out.

Looks like a continuation some years after the 3rd game. Sounds like they're side stepping ME:A, which I'm not opposed to.

Still, reviving a trilogy that was meant to end typically ends up poorly. I really hope the game goes back to the action RPG roots and doesn't try to be something like modern Assassin's Creed/Witcher 3.
