Demon's Souls (2020)

The PC version is canceled unless that rumor is reinstated. They messed up during the reveal.

I doubt it is cancelled. The same blunder happened with Death Stranding when it was announced, they gave the same response and said it was an error in the trailer and that there was no plans for a PC version etc.

So my hope is we get Demon's Souls on PC sometime in 2021. Gotta be optimistic ;)

it's 100% definitely coming to PC...no publisher/developer is going to 'accidentally' put a PC logo in a trailer...

I dunno the Bloodborne rumors kept getting shot down as well. Fingers crossed but I'm getting a PS5 anyways, Sony always has some good exclusives.

I wonder how Bloodborne plays on the PS Now game streaming service. I was thinking of trying the free trial on my PC.

It works the same as any other PS Now game. Looks like a high quality stream (so definitely not perfect) and has a decent amount of input lag (BIG problem for a game like Bloodborne.) Also, Bloodborne has so many dark areas that the compression artifacts will be really bad.

PSNow hasn't received any major backend updates for some time. Its 720p only. And Colonel Sanders covered most of the what you can currently expect.

However, Sony has stated they are looking to upgrade PSNow and hope to offer 1080p sometime soon-ish. And hopefully that comes with some backend upgrades, as well. Because Nvidia, MS, and Nintendo are all way head on latency to the player.

Sony also drastically needs to upgrade the PSNow interface. There is no search bar. And they purposefully bury Bloodborne, so that you have to click through tens of games, first.

Many PlayStation 4 games run with higher framerates on PlayStation 5, but sadly From Software's Bloodborne is not among them, although the game does benefit from the console's increased power...speaking on Twitter, well-known dataminer Lance McDonald confirmed that the PlayStation 4 exclusive runs at 30 FPS on PlayStation 5, the frame pacing issues still not fixed

the game, however, has better performance on the new console, as it manages to keep steady 30 FPS in sequences where it struggled on PlayStation 4 Pro...Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice have also been confirmed to run at 60 FPS on the new console...

For this on the PC, pretty much not at this point. It was Sony owns some rights and helped development. Short of PSNow, it's not on PC then.

Yeah I don't think I'll buy a PS5 just for this game it's nice and everything but I lived though the game twice. If a person never played the game before I could understand.

I really hope this makes it to PC!
Confirmed that there is no way in hell that will ever happen, unless you want to play cloud based on PSNow at 720p. Sony owns the IP and helped develop the OG and the remake, will NEVER have a direct PC release. They are keeping this an exclusive. Sony slapped down From Software and they have all the pull. This is a system seller, and frankly the target audience for really hard games like this of this style is console mostly anyways.

That said, a PS5 costs less than a high end CPU or GPU so it's not an issue.

"Confirmed". They said the same shit about Death Stranding. It might not come, but them denying it holds no water.

I'm so old that I remember the arm chair forum experts vigorously arguing that there was no way in hell Sony would ever release Horizon Zero Dawn on PC.
I was one of those arm chair forum experts. I now expect Demon's Souls to eventually be ported to PC.

Sony never previously released any of their in house PS games on PC so it wasn't so shocking to think HZD would not be released on PC...anyone who claims that they knew for 100% is lying...they just posted the article from whatever website first mentioned it

Exactly, so the fact that they did eventually release it makes it clear the possibility exists for almost any other title.

Not only did they release it despite lots of claims that this would never happen under any circumstances, Sony has since confirmed that it plans to port other exclusives to PC. Taken together, arguments that there is no chance Sony will ever port Demon Souls can't really be taken seriously anymore.

There have been plenty of things they never released to PC Sony and Nintendo both know exclusives are where things are at.

FWIW I want it on the PC. I want 144fps/144hz and ultrawide! I've got all the dark souls games and sekiro on the PC.

But Sony needs exclusives, and they'd be stupid to give this up. And it does look like this is going the way of Bloodborne where if you want it, you can play the good console version or a gimped PSNOW one. I'm buying it regardless but I wouldn't hold out waiting for the PC on this. If it comes out, I'll get a second copy oh well.

Given Bloodborne's massive framepacing issues that have never been fixed, I wouldn't be surprised if the code is a bit of a mess making a port a bad idea. Bluepoint is using a brand new engine for the Demon's Souls remake. Also, while Sony knows it needs exclusives it won't require the same exclusive 2-3 years down the road. By this time next year they'll have Ratchet and Clank, Horizon 2, God of War Ragnarok. Beyond 2021, who knows what they'll have for system sellers. It would be unwise to release Demon's Souls on PC right now, but a couple years down the road it would make more sense. Sales would have dried up for it by then and a PC release could inject new cash flow into it, making the game even more profitable for them.

Someone got a PS5 and the game early. The guy probaly knows the exact patterns of enemies from 11 years ago.

Those graphics are insane. I'll be ecstatic if I can actually score a PS5 before end of year. And the moment it becomes available for PC - 2021/2022 - I'll be dumping that PS5 like a leaky bedpan.

having never played Demon's Souls, looking at gameplay videos the level design looks incredible...seems like the best overall level design of any of the Souls games

Are there different weapons and armor sets in Demon's Souls or is it only that generic warrior-looking set with shield and short sword?

yep. The other games have little chunks of brilliance. Or maybe a couple of standout areas.
But, Demon's Souls rarely falters in its levels. In my opinion, the game benefits from not being interconnected or even linearly connected. Each world can be completely its own thing. Twisting and turning however the designers see fit.

it also frequently squeezes you through tight spaces or places atop walkways with many opportunities to fall. And there are no obvious "arena" areas as concessions for PVP invasions. It's so fun, because there usually aren't low stakes open areas within short distance. The environment is a major character in Demon's Souls. Both PVP and PVE.

Demon's Souls has most of what you are familiar with in the Dark Souls games. Aside from the bonfire mechanic, Dark Souls games are mostly just little sideways changes and a few refinements.

Demon's Souls even has a boss fight which other players can be summoned as. Something which they didn't do again, until Dark Souls 3.

As someone who is loving it on the PS5, I hope it makes it to PC, too. Hell, I'll probably buy it again just so I can have as much of the series on one platform as possible.
Anyone who has played Dark Souls 1-3 will be right at home with Demon's Souls. It's the exact same style of game, but with some relatively minor nuances. It's basically Dark Souls 0 or whatever you want to call it. The differences between it and DS1 to DS2 or 3 = basically the same.

I'm still hopeful for a Bloodborne update someday, but I'm starting to think that isn't ever happening. When Sony made it part of the PS+ bundle and didn't do shit to improve it, that's not a good sign.

Level design is original if you could keep that same mindset for say any game out there.

Yep I was up til 1am with it. I wouldn't have hated if they had added the plunge attacks from Dark Souls, or made it three weight classes instead of two (affects your rolling speed), but the developers argument would prob be that they were staying faithful to the original.
