Zen 3 Launch Availability

When will it be possible to buy a Zen 3 cpu without using a bot or paying Scalper rates?

The 5800X (or 5700X, if it’ll exist) will be a much better buy at $369-$399.
I think $380 65w 5700X will come next spring to counter Intel's offerings or AMD will have to drop 5800X price (once zen3 madness goes away LOL)

They will just drop the prices for $50 it gives them room for sales and stuff. These are just launch prices they will change. I would never buy another 65w tdp 8 core chip after the 3700x it's just not worth it unless you are building extreme sff pc. You just can't increse the pbo power like on the higher tdp chips
 
I just got my Newegg order, did anyone else get the wrong CPU? Why did they send me a 5950x? Just Kidding! I got one lowly 5600x.

Looking for a 5950X but haven't had any luck. I have $1000+ in Amazon gift cards ready to go on PC parts but I haven't actually been able to find anything to buy on Amazon lately, 3080s, the new 5000 series, nothing. I can't even find the product pages through search, I've had to go through other websites first to get direct links.

Hardware market is shit right now.

That because everyone buys from Amazon. :)
 
The latency has been reduced far enough with Zen 3 that I think the difference is negligible. You have to also remember that even though the 5900X would be 6+6, using that extra CCX also opens up another 32MB of cache.

Performance numbers speak for themselves. The two CPUs pretty much are within each others’ margin of error in current games.

looking at AnandTech's Zen 3 review the 5800 and 5900 are pretty much even as far as gaming numbers but Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was a weird outlier which showed a pretty big win for the 5800X...maybe it's the engine but if both CPU's are pretty much identical but a few games skew towards the 5800X it might make more sense to go with the 5800X

then again I like to keep my CPU's for a long time...I'm currently still using an Intel i7 980X from 2010...I jumped into 6 cores way before it became mainstream because I wanted to 'future proof' it so maybe jumping into 12 cores now might be the better long term move...then again the 980X didn't use the CCX design...but I am now leaning towards the 5900X

i would get the 5900x for the extra 4 cores if you can afford the $100 price difference over the 5800x

At $450 the 5800X isn’t a great value proposition. For $150 less you get the 5600X; you only sacrifice 2 cores and get basically identical game performance in current games. For $100 more over the 5800X you get the 5900X where you gain 4 cores and you double your cache. Also basically identical gaming performance in modern games, but you get more bang for your buck with the 5900X.

at higher resolutions the GPU becomes the bottleneck...which is why the 1080p results are more important as far as testing CPU performance

I agree about the value proposition in terms of the 5900X...I think AMD will eventually release a 5700X which will end up the much better price/performance buy (or even non-X variants)

I understand that. But if you are gaming at higher resolutions then it doesn’t matter in your use case. The difference is negligible anyway at lower resolutions. Splitting hairs about random games here and there that might perform slightly better or worse on one CPU or the other is pointless. 5900X shows its advantages in some games just as often as the 5800X. Play on a computer with either CPU and I would be very surprised if you could notice the difference.

I’m looking at what I get for my money and out of the current Zen 3 line up the 5800X seems like the most pointless buy at $450 given the performance of the 5600X at $300 and how much more CPU you get for the extra $100 with the 5900X.
 
after reading a ton of Zen 3 reviews today I'm still confused as to which is the better buy for gaming?...everyone says the 5900X is excellent overall but I haven't seen any detailed write ups about the single CCX on the 5800X vs the 6+6 CCX on the 5900X and what if any factor that plays in the overall performance
It looks to me like is a game specific thing. There are a few games which seem to do a fair bit better on the 5800x. But there are as many or more, which do better on the higher clocks and cache of the 5900 and especially the 5950.
I think the top to bottom improvements are so good, that singling out the single CCX aspect, doesn't really pan out to much on its own. As it might have with Zen 2, if they had released a special edition 3800 single CCX 8 core or something.
 
Don't out-think the whole concept. Just look at the FPS and make a call on price to performance. The latency is already wrapped into the final result. It's just math. For Zen2 the best deal was the 3600. Surprise, this time for Zen3 its the 5600x. I'm sure the intel guys will jump in asap and point out the 10600k result. I'd have to argue (rightfully so) that the 5600x is a much better all around performer.

IMO, the best buy from Intel right now, is the 10700 non-K. Its potent on its own. But a few tweaks to the turbo behavior and you have a formidable 8 core CPU for a good price. Very good price, if you are patient enough to price hunt for a bit.
 
Wow, Tustin MC had 10+ in stock of 5600x and 5800x this morning and they be all gone now.
 
I wonder how long B&H will take to ship me a 5900x. I ordered at 12:30am CST yesterday. I took all next week off since I had to many days, wonder if I can snag one from Microcenter before B&H ships.

Based on my experience preordering an 8700k from them, you’ll likely find it elsewhere first. I did put a preorder in at B&H for 5900x, but I know I’ll find it elsewhere first.
 
are new 5900X/5800X shipments expected on a regular basis at Newegg/Best Buy/Amazon or will this be another Ampere?
 
Anyone ever mess with the Newegg combos? They scare me as they are 3rd party but I did see a few 5950x and 5900x float in and out last night.

I ordered a 3080 combo.. and just returned the combo item. Just had to pay return shipping (their label or your own). I think it was sold by newegg though.

They’re the first review that has gone out of their way to mention the single CCX “advantage”. Yet, in their own review the 5800X and 5900X are neck and neck in applications (except for ones where more than 8 cores are used and the 5900X demolishes) and within 0.3% on average of each other at every resolution for gaming. Their individual application and game tests show the two CPUs trading blows with each other but almost always within each other’s margin of error for testing anyway. So their hypothetical situation doesn’t even seem to show up in their own testing. It has been the same story for every review.

If you are so worried about CCX latency that you’ve decided to make it your deciding factor then just get the 5800X. But don’t forget by going with the 5800X you not only lose 4 additional cores, but also halve your L3 cache from 64MB to 32MB. The vast majority of benchmarks show little to no difference in game performance between the two. I personally would rather get more value out of my money with a 5900X or even a 5600X if I was strictly gaming.
 
When looking at the total system price it's not that much more to get one of the higher core parts but if you're just gaming there's really no reason to. Even if you're gaming at 1080p they're still not much reason to. Still in 2020 there's like one or two games that are a few frames faster and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The only reason to get the higher core count because you're still getting the same core at the same frequency or maybe even better, the same PCI Express 4.0, the same memory controller etc, 3D rendering and compressing decompressing or transcoding large files, lots of them. Even stuff like Photoshop doesn't benefit any noticeable degree from the extra cores. If you're doing 3D rendering and transcoding or unzipping large files it's cool that it takes half or a third the time but that's the only benefit.

All that being said in my current build I was willing to pay another $350 and get the 5950X but I have to admit it's more of a mental thing. Just wanting to max out this build and keep it for another five six seven eight nine years. It's hard to believe I've kept my current one for 9 years and the difference between it and the new one should be nice and noticeable but in games I wonder how much of a difference it's going to make cuz I don't play at 1080p and don't have a high refresh rate monitor cuz nobody will make a nice one that has everything that I want at 30 plus inches gosh flipping and damn it.

P. S. Why didn't Newegg add the free game? Was I seeing things or didn't the ad show the free game for all of the 5000 CPUs?
 
So after a night of frustration in regards to my 5600x, think it was the CPU....Found out there is a bug with my MSI Unify x570 and memory speeds (with the new bios update). Can't go over 3200 speeds right now...Thanks MSI!

But, I can report I am able to hit 4.7ghz stable at 1.4v. Really impressive how well these new CPU's overclock. I will give 4.8ghz a try later but right now I have to get my memory fine tuned at 3200 speeds :/ damn you MSI.

Right now temps were stable on cinebench loop at around 64c with the arctic freezer 2 420!
 
So the Tustin MC has a few more 5800x and 5600x today, Saturday! Where the hell are they getting the stock day after day? Now if they had the 5900x or 5950x more readily in stock, I would have schlepped myself down there for one.

Perhaps they are only stocking shelf with so many a day from the first shippment they got. I dunno... I'm waiting for miracle and B&H Photo shipping my 5900x next week LOL

They had 10+ of each, each day previously. Today's 2-3 is light in comparison.
 
At least its good to hear that stock keeps flowing in. This launch is decades better then the 3000 series launch!

Now if I can get my hand on a 5900x :)

Seriously guys you should be happy, I wish I had some close Amer Friends. Up North we get very poor supply of zen3, especially 5900x and 5950x. Best Buy Canada is not selling them, Amazon.ca didn't receive any yet, and Newegg has very limited stock for Canadians. At the moment my only hope is B&H Photo. I hope because it is US retailer, it will eventually get stock faster than any Canadian Retailer... If not and I really get impention I might just back-order 5600x and call it a day.

From someone that started looking for one from the night before the release and spent all release days looking (and still I have windows in constant refresh) I disagree that this is any better. Considering this is a CPU vs a more popular GPU sales, that makes things even worse.

Since the launch of these CPU's, I have been able to buy numerous 5800x, and 5600x when they come in stock. This far better than the 3000 series. I was just SUPER lucky to get a 3090 in the cart and checked out at 5:59am on launch day from newegg.

Just gotta keep looking, they are in stock from time to time.
