Cyberpunk 2077

It'll be really interesting to see what the game is made up of if it's truly "only slightly shorter than the Witcher." The Witcher is easily the largest and longest game I've ever played. Plus, unlike a lot of other games, the world is packed with things to see and do from corner to corner. Even being in the ballpark makes for a truly monstrous game.

Night City Wire - Special Russian Edition

For anyone interested. It does appear to be things we have seen already but I haven't watched the entire thing.

T-minus only about a month. I am looking forward to this now that the release is actually tangible...

Right!? Been a long while since I've been this excited for a release. Probably Deus Ex: Human Revolution...

Ya, curious about this now, but with my RX580....i dont think that will do it justice at all!

1080Ti here @3440x1440... I'm hoping for better than medium graphics, but that might be a stretch. C'mon AMD!

I'm in a similar boat but with a 2080ti.

It'll be a toss up if I play day one, or wait for a new gpu. Already going to grab the new Ryzen as my intel cpu is from 2015.

Yeah, I'm using an OG Ryzen 1700(x?) and I don't really like the MB... So I've been saving up a bit to do a system upgrade soon. Ryzen for sure, Navi possibly.

Why does everyone forget that big budget games that were in development for several years were developed with older hardware? Just because it's coming out next month does not mean it was built from the ground up for 3090s and shit. Lol.

Real car makes/models in CP2077... never would have guessed that in a million years. That is so fucking cool.

edit: Ok maybe it's just the Johnny Silverhand Porsche, but it did say "icons" plural so you never know...

Ahhh the Arondight is a vehicle now.. Nice call-back to TW3's sword.

The great irony is that CP2077 looks like it will have better driving mechanics than any GTA game and obviously those games have their core centering around driving. And that's not even including the idea of every car being unique, with different handling characteristics, and using real car audio.

I also really enjoyed the fashion portion, near the end of the video. This game is so steeped in lore and it just oozes layers upon layers of "culture" developed for this game. There isn't likely to be anything remotely like this for an incredibly long time.

Right? I f this lives up to 90% of the hype it's going to be insane. I might need to take some time off of work (and I don't do that).

Definitely first game I am doing that with. Already get Thursday/Friday of Thanksgiving week so I am taking Mon-Wed off as well. I'll download on Friday the 20th and have 9 straight non work days to play.

I think the test machines CDPR used for demos awhile back were running 1080ti's so that shouldn't be an issue if you're running those. As has been said, this game has been under development before RT/RTX was a thing. If you want FPS, just turn that shizz off.

The question I have is more along the lines of whether CDPR is using DX12 RT or Nvidia specific RTX. That should concern the Navi crowd more I would think.

Doesn't the DX12 version include the Nvidia pipeline? I was of the understanding the we are probably not going to see anyone develop specific in the Windows environment due to it incorporating both... But I guess we'll see soon enough!

If it does - that would be great. I haven't been following the deets on RT since I'm not a big fan of the earliest implementations. It was either too shiny or reflections for the sake of reflections.

I'm hoping Navi can keep it in the same ballpark as Ampere. I'd definitely like to go that route this time (an all AMD build would be cool). My Radeon VII was cool but a disappointment in terms of performance.

Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams is a digital comic exclusive to GOG

Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams is exclusive to GOG, and you'll be able to read it from November 19th if you've preordered Cyberpunk 2077...if you buy it on GOG later, you'll still get the comic...the 50-page yarn follows Tasha and Mirek, a pair of Night City scavengers...the former wants to become a bigshot gangster, while the latter is content with partying and stealing cyberware...

Just watched all the videos on the steam store page, pretty easy to pre order after that, the hype is real!

I don't see the point in pre-ordering it. Aside from getting to read a comic early if you buy it on GOG there aren't any benefits.

I'll probably look at a few reviews before I decide to get it. I'm extremely picky when it comes to single player games so I'm not entirely sure I would like it or not. It seems like there is a lot of freedom to play however you want similar to Skyrim which is one of the very few SP games I enjoyed.

I understand why this game is hyped up, but I wonder if there would be nearly as much hype for this game if there wasn't a pandemic going on and people weren't just sitting around dying for more entertainment.

Yeah, I'm not preordering unless I see $10 off or something, but this is one of the few companies that I'd feel save doing so. Their track record pretty much speaks for itself.

This game has had hype for 8 years. So I'm not really sure what you're talking about. You can literally just check news articles throughout the development. There isn't anything remotely like this in the gaming space. Whether you personally will like it or not is an entirely different thing.

It's basically been $10 off for the past half a year.

So, there you go. I think Steam also currently has it on sale if you prefer that.

Yes there was always hype, but seems the past few months the hype has increased exponentially. I'm sure a part of that is because it's closer to release, but it seems a lot of it could also just be increased demand for entertainment from bored people in lockdowns.

I don't think the current amount of hype really equates to the games they've released before. They've only made the Witcher games. Witcher 3 won some GoTY awards, but I don't think anyone considers it the best game ever, which is the level of hype Cyberpunk is getting. The hype seems very inflated to me.
The level of hype I'm seeing is more than any GTA, Elder Scrolls game, Blizzard game, or any game I've ever seen.

Look at this thread. This is essentially about media content regarding information for this game. (That we've been receiving piece by piece in live segments over the past several months)
Look at the past several major gaming conventions, notably CP2077's 40 minute game play demo.
Look at the people involved with the project (love them or hate them) such as Keanu Reeves, Grimes, Mike Pondsmith.
Look at the subject matter and the space - clearly nothing has this level of content.
Look at the sales of the Witcher 3, that has exceeded 28M copies sold.

I would say you haven't been paying attention then. There is significantly more media placed into this title than other competing titles. The advertising - whether through channels, e3, or otherwise is also much higher than most games. Again, if the game isn't for you, sure fine. But there is a reason why people are saying that there isn't another game like this from multiple perspectives.

I have literally never seen any other company drive this many things before the launch of a game. Name any AAA title you want. Any COD any EA game, Fifa, whatever. Any title that has sold 10 million copies plus - have any of them released this level of comprehensive information? Have any of them even had this much information to give? CoD couldn't hope to show 40 minutes of its singe player campaign and have it be as interesting. Most games don't have big name bands making music for their games. Nor do any games that I know of have enough to talk about to release entire segments of live streams about different parts or subsystems of their games.

Whether you think the hype is real or not, all of this is incredibly calculated. Again, most games don't have enough to talk about to do what CDPR has done, and as a result they've leveraged their hype to the extreme. Most devs also don't have games that have sold 28M copies. Covid 19 year or not, the train is much bigger than any other release I can site. If you can site any other dev that has done half of the stuff CDPR has done before the launch of this game, I'd be surprised. When EA launches a game they make a splashy trailer and push that to every form of web advertising they can. When CDPR advertises, you get an onslaught of information, game mechanics, bts, playthroughs, and the list goes on.

nothing about the hype seems out of line with usual marketing for a new triple a release. There just has been a dirth of new Triple A IP as fortnight and battle royals have taken over.

Heck fortnight advertises constantly everywhere

I don't think we're talking about even close to the same things. I summarized that near the end of my post. Although Epic isn't EA, the premise of what you're talking about is the same. EA/Epic advertisements are basically splashiness put into a 15-30 second long ad and spammed throughout every digital marketing channel. This method is quantity based. It isn't new or interesting pieces of information every time. Sure, when a new season drops they'll make another new 15-30 second ad that gets spammed, but that's very different than long form informational drops. The longest thing they do will be in the 2-3 minute category and that will basically just be a "cinematic trailer".

Fortnite doesn't create multiple 30+ minute long segments talking about game mechanics of a single player game (which yes is technically impossible because obviously Fortnite is multiplayer only by design, but you know what I'm saying). I would say CP2077 has way more hype surrounding it (whether you think deserved or not) because there clearly is way more thoughtfulness put into the way the game is being positioned. And I would say that gamers are taking note, probably mostly at a subconscious level. This method is clearly quality based (although quantity is certainly a part of it, I think what is really notable is that despite the large quantity that CDPR is putting out, each segment is unique and based around quality). Seriously, scroll up, watch any Net City Wire and tell me of an Epic or EA game that has multiple 30+ minute long segments from the devs about mechanics that are this detailed and show this much about any game - especially before it has launched. This isn't even the same way that even other games that are (arguably) in the same genre are advertised.

I still clearly remember Mass Effect 3's advertising campaign, another single player RPG, and it looked nothing like this (CP2077). Believe it or not, I didn't play any title in the Mass Effect franchise essentially until after ME:3 and most of its DLC came out. And by the time I made it through all of ME:3, all of its DLC had come out. I bring that up and say that to say that EA's advertising didn't remotely reflect the kind of game that ME:3 was - had I not found out through the grapevine I wouldn't have known that it was a space opera FPS RPG. Again, very different from CDPR approach of long form information about surrounding mechanics of their game. It was a 30 second long splashy ad. With Shepard running through guns blazing and some followers in tow, all in prerendered CG. It's not a wonder that I didn't even bother until way later.

This is one of the ads I was thinking of. But I'm pretty sure there's also another one where it's just all running one direction while blasting in CG.

The witcher 3 pretty high up in a lot of best pc games lists or similar, for what it's worth if you check metacritic it is nr 18 in best PC games of all time if you filter by score. User reviews also rate it an average of 9.4. Ofc taste is subjective, these guys try their best to make the best game they can and have proven they can do some awesome work.

so what?

I'm sure the game will be okay, but it won't live up to the hype. Nothing lives up to this level of hype.

I often end up really enjoying games I played on a whim without knowing or following them a lot. And the ones I follow a lot end up being meh.

That's because they are often actually meh. I know about quantum mechanics but following a game or not doesn't change how good that game actually is.

For every game I Followed before release that ended up being meh, there were a dozen that I played on a whim that were even more meh.

No game in the world could or would ever live up to the impossible hype this one has. Forget it.

I think if we go in expecting something "pretty good" all told it will be ok. .
