New World Amazon Studios MMORPG

ESO again is a solid contender for some of the best pvp battles I've ever seen in an MMO. Hundreds of players at any one time duking it out. Siege battles galore. While they do have your typical pvp death match modes, the open world scale full on battle assaults with literally an endless time limit is near second to none.

Zero risk/zero award instance PvP. I don't even consider a game that doesn't have open world PvP a PvP game.

ESO cyrodiil isn't instanced. It also has rewards. They additionally have instanced PvP matches but the main PvP is open world.
Also, they have Imperial City. Another area of a free roaming pvp spot, but with a twist. PVE and PVP together. Definitely a risk reward thing. For those that don't know, each enemy NPC you kill gives you a certain amount of currency in which you exchange for items and gear. If you get killed by a player, you lose a substantial amount of that currency you're holding immediately. You're only safe once you go back to your factions camp area. And you can't port back either. You can store your earnings there or spend it.
Wish people knew more about the game before assuming the wrong things.

Additionally, the risk in Cyrodiil is getting absolutely smacked around unless you get good gear and then you've got dozens and dozens of combos to learn.

Umm, "Open World" doesn't mean PvP in only a small area like Cryodiil. Open World means you can PvP anywhere in the entire game world, hence the world part.

Open world PvP examples are like: EvE online, Darkfall, Everquest PvP servers. In EQ, you could literally go to any zone/area in the entire game world and PvP someone without their consent. In ESO, you could play your entire game career and not PvP once.

Not entirely accurate. There are several crucial skill sets you need to unlock and are only done through PVPing. Any okay to decent PVEr will need to PVP.

Dude. I'm not gonna lie, I don't think think you know what the hell you're talking about.

Cyrodiil alone is nearly 60 square kilometers. How much room do you need to travel to find players when trekking on a horse or foot? How much time do you really have to waste on just... running uselessly? It takes like an hour to run from one corner to the other in Cyrodiil

Lol

So I am glad that you agree that in ESO you could play your entire game career and not PvP once.

Doesn't matter how big Cryodil is. Most of the game is in non PvP-zones, meaning the game does NOT have Open World PvP and a player is 100% safe if they choose to be.

Open world means not instanced. Cyrodiil is also huge and the imperial city is too.

Non-Instanced and Open World are different than Open World PvP. If I cannot attack you anywhere in the world like you can in the games I mentioned above, means it isn't Open World PvP. ESO just has large "Battleground" PvP.

https://elderscrollsonline.info/pvp

Cyrodiil is the only area where you can fight against others in the game. PvP fights are not allowed in other zones and Cyrodiil is the only dedicated territory for this.

Elder Scrolls Online does not force you to fight against others and you will not have to visit Ctrodiil in your quests. PvP is not an obligation and you can enjoy PvE content in other provinces without necessity to protect yourself. Nobody can attack you outside of Cyrodiil. There are no duels in the game and if you wish to fight against other players you will have to go to the dedicated zone.

That is NOT Open World PvP.

People have literally asked for Open World PvP in ESO:

Google "open world pvp games list"

Guess what you won't find there, ESO...

It's as middle of the road as it gets as of now. Combat is too simple. Three skill for a weapon. Cooldowns when you switch weapons. Game needs combos or something. Crafting is OK. Gathering is standard. I can see this being pretty good in a year or so.

The combat definitely needs worked on. I think I only enjoyed it slightly because it was something new.

They were originally planning on releasing this in August of this year? Eek.

the preview release 2 days ago was the official release date i think. everything is delayed cause of rona.

email I got this morning on launch date

Launch update

Today we announced the move of New World's launch from Spring 2021 to August 31, 2021. We considered this decision very carefully but need to take the time to add new features, tune, and polish. We are committed to delivering a high quality experience.
With this launch date, closed beta will begin on July 20th. Please visit our development blog at the link below to learn more about our roadmap and new features such as five-player Expeditions, the 20 vs. 20 Outpost Rush, and an additional territory, Ebonscale Reach.

when it gets close to August they will delay it again...seems to be the new norm in gaming...

Interested in this game since they did an invite only Alpha months ago and let people stream it. Though beta in late July doesn’t give them time to fix much of anything before August launch.

That outpost rush gametype sounds pretty cool. I'm holding my excitement until I see/try real gameplay though.

MMO PvP always sounds really cool, but ends up being super lame. It ends up being 90% level/equipment with 9% strategy, and 1% skill. That's not fun to me.

That's why I'd like to see more planetside type of games. Battles are won by coordination, not player build quality.

Planetside is fun. I play vanu just for the leadership. We can really do damage with a small group playing together.

Just announced at Summer Game Fest, a deep dive into the game will air tomorrow at 11:00 EDT.

I'm seeing a lot of negatives toward the devs in light of the recent microtransactions and xp boosters dubbed "P2W" they're already bringing to the game, in its current beta state. lol
Sub reddit here.

Things are not looking good for the future of this project. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Future content so Bezos can throw whatever to make this a good MMO or reinvent it as its develops that is more intresting than a dead game. Kinda ticked Amazon cancled the Lord of the Rings MMO Smed was working on.

Huh, my 2070super was running it pretty well at 1440p several months ago during an alpha invite.

Very strange indeed.

Bricking 3090 RTX cards the Beta is

change the name of the game to New Graphics Cardz

You see people claim this with any new game that pushes graphics cards hard.

It's not the game's fault, it's unstable hardware/firmware/drivers/overclocks. It can be "fixed" by the game limiting how hard it will push your system, but they shouldn't have to do that.

If your PC blows up running one game, you can likely find another game, benchmark, or stress test that stresses the hardware it in similar ways and blows it up too. This game just happens to uncover your hardware problem.

"New World ... Dive Deep"

I can swear that's what she said to me two nights ago .. just goes to prove sex really does sell :barefoot:

If it is due to (I think StarCraft 2 back in the days did that has well):
The game has an uncapped framerate in the main menus,

It could be partly the game fault and an relative easy fix, true a game should just push 600 fps and let the hardware handle if they want to show that many frame or not if they are not able to do so. But infinite FPS during 3d menu do sound different than a game pushing graphic card hard issues because of very challenging graphic type of issue.

seems everyone is running with that now, jayz got a vid up too. one thing i havent seen is system spec being listed other than "my 3090 died".

For what it's worth, Amazon's New World goes live in August and is available for pre-order for $40. We won't include a link out of the risk for GeForce RTX 3090 owners who might click on it.

Whoops, my fingers slipped.

Talk about FUD.

I disagree. It isn't "partly the games fault" If your graphics card can't handle running at 100% it means your hardware is unstable. Run a GPU benchmark and your PC will have the same problem.
Yes they can "fix" it by capping the framerate, but it isn't the games fault.

It isn't just games that have uncapped menu framerates. People complained about it with Ghost Recon Wildlands and many other games. You get to a certain part of the game where it's power spiking the GPU that is already under extreme load, and it crashes the entire PC.

I think it missing some part, yes it mean your hardware is unstable, but if it mean your hardware is unstable over 450fps that does not mean that it is not a compromise hardware-people should be able to choose, if they want to never ran at that speed.

Why sacrifice the first single thing to make hardware stable at those framerate ? Instead of having FPS lock below that available, should be the video card doing it here too.

But even if the hardware is at fault here, the game can still be, i.e. do I want to use more current and fan noise to ran a menu a 450 fps ? The answer is obviously no, I never want a game menu to go over my screen refresh rate if that option exist, even if it would not crash it sound suboptimal use of power and noise to let that happen.

Since this only appears to be affecting EVGA FTW3 3090 cards (and nothing else), certainly seems like a poorly made set of cards from EVGA.

Videocards "jumping to max capacity 500+fps while in some game menus" isn't a new phenomenon, sometimes there are weird situations where vsync (or other frame limiters) don't kick in. Sounds like the majority of the blame is on the card's design and not the game developer, possibly the card's thermal/voltage dissipation layout doesn't cover the niche scenario where it's pushing easy-to-render frames at very high hertz.

I wonder if nvidia's drivers themselves should have some safety hard cap built in by default, say 300 fps (but can be disabled/tweaked by power users).

There is a frame rate cap option in the nvidia drivers, but it is disabled by default for good reason. Running at extremely high framerates is something people do intentionally, and it would piss a lot of people off if there was a cap.

The safety feature video cards have is based on thermals and power. They automatically clock down, or even completely shut off before damage can be done.
Framerate doesn't necessarily correlate with pushing the card hard. For example you could be rendering simple games at 1000 FPS and that could only be using 50% of your GPU. Yet you could run some very advanced graphics in single digits FPS and be using 100% of your GPU.

Remember when certain models of 3090s and 3080s had problems with crashing when they launched because of the capacitors they used and the overclocks had to be adjusted? This is probably related to that.
