Monster Hunter: World

I paid full price launch day for this and have probably put in 2 hours total..

Is there a good video that explains "Why this game is awesome" etc?

I feel like I'm missing 'the hook' or something....

You kill monsters, bro. Can't get any more awesome than that.

To me it's like doing endless Dark Souls style boss battles. I have yet to get bored of this game.

the repetitiveness worries me which is why I haven't bought it yet...at least with Dark Souls every encounter feels different and there are new areas, pvp etc...I'll wait till Iceborne releases on PC and decide if I want it...if I don't get it then I most likely never will

also this game seems geared towards co-op and I prefer solo...with Dark Souls I hate using summons or player help and with MH:W it seems almost like a requirement otherwise each fight lasts close to an hour...seems grindy

Other than Behemoth and Ancient Leshen, the entire game is easily soloable (but there is a noticeable learning curve). I’ve solo’d every monster including their arch tempered versions. On PC they also have mods to make Behemoth and Ancient Leshen solo friendly.

I prefer solo play and I’ve been hooked on this game. Probably have close to 500 hours clocked between 3 characters on PS4 and PC. My only dilemma is whether to get Iceborne on PS4 or wait to get it on PC which is my new main platform for the game.

Sooo.... Monsters = DS Bosses?

The item system looks deep. Is it RNG/Diablo-level deep or more Final Fantasy-esque?

Like I said, I've put in a couple hours... I just didn't figure out "what the game wants to be" etc etc

you can solo but like I said you didn't mention the time it took you to beat most of the monsters...I'm guessing 35-50 minutes each...

The arch tempered ones (the hardest tier) take me about 30-50 minutes depending on the monster. But they are much more difficult than the high rank and tempered monsters. Once you get pretty good you can kill high rank and tempered monsters under 10 min. I’d rank the average DS boss as equivalent to an average tempered monster. Arch tempered monsters are a satisfying challenge.

The closest comparison I can think of would be Dark Souls boss battles. Each monster has a moveset that you need to pay attention to you and pretty much dance around and dodge like crazy until you get a chance to go in and take a few swings. And some monsters put up a pretty good challenge. Also each weapon type has it's own moveset.

The weapons follow a skill tree. You have to farm the materials to forge/upgrade your weapons. This is where the repetition comes in as you will have to refight monsters in order to grab materials. Eventually you'll be rotating items depending on what the monsters are weak against (lightning, fire etc..). And you can also craft support items that can stun or trap the monsters. It's a lot to take in a first but starts to make sense after a while.

"A couple hours" isn't anywhere near enough to even touch the surface of Monster Hunter, the game keeps bringing in new systems all the way till the very end game.

I've put hundreds of hours on 3 Ultimate, 4 Ultimate, dozens of hours into Generations Ultimate and I'm at nearly 300 hours in World (on PC.)

Honestly, if the repetition worries you, it isn't until the VERY end game, and even then its not nearly as bad as grinding other games.

I very rarely solo, but my partner plays with me so that helps quite a bit. The game is soloable, but it shines in co-op. Even random co-op is usually good until you get to the end-game where they can sometimes be more of an hindrance than help.

The repetition in this game doesn't bother since the fights are really fun. They can get very chaotic and go very differently from your last encounter. Sometimes the monster you're fighting will bump into another monster on the map and you have to duck as they both start brawling.

Its a very different game. does this ever happen in dauntless? I have only played a few missions there and I don't recall the game world being active at all. In MHW.... you throw a lot of poop....

That new Elder Dragon teased at the end looks fucking amazing, can't wait to see what its equipment will look like.

Everything in this trailer was really awesome.

Looks like a TON of content for this...can't wait until early next year for the PC version.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will reward players who help others catch up

Capcom is building in incentives for seasoned players to help rookies through World's story..."We've also got a system in place called Hunter Helper, so if you haven't finished World yet and want to catch up so you can play Iceborne, your friends who are a higher rank than you will actually get rewards by playing quests with you and helping you finish up your storyline," explained Iceborne directors Kaname Fujioka and Daisuke Ichihara

"We understand there are people who are still part-way along the journey on this game, and we can reassure them it's definitely something you don't need to think 'it's not for you' just because you haven't finished yet, or because you still haven't reached a certain rank."...

I don't know what catch-up means. I got to L200, but have never fought any of them tempered monsters, probably my build sucks ass also. lol

Capcom has begun teasing additional monsters on their way to Iceborne post-launch, with the first being the powerful Rajang...Rajang is an ape-like beast, with strong arms, a pair of imposing horns, and the ability to emit lightning bolts from its mouth...first appearing in Monster Hunter 2, it's one of the series' most challenging hunts

Rajang will appear in the console version of Iceborne in October...it's unclear right now exactly what the post-launch content schedule will look like for PC...

I still don't understand why PC hasn't caught up to the console versions at this point. They are releasing DLC for the console versions before the PC version is even close to being out.

Not going to lie, I caved and preordered Iceborne for my PS4. Waiting 4 months when I can play it right away was just too tempting.

I'll double dip per usual on PC in January.

Nice. I wonder if Rajang is going to be there on release, they showed him in the trailer but it's a DLC for the console versions.

Iceborn is out next week for PC you have to be MH level 16 or beat the final boss in the vanilla game..I'm close to level 16 I think not sure if I'll pick this up nice looking game.

I've been waiting very impatiently for Iceborne for months, can't wait to dig back into it.
HR 151, haven't played much since lceborne launched for consoles. Not because I was playing on consoles, but just because the amount of stuff to do in vanilla kinda stopped at that point.

Pretty stoked to get back into MHW. It was very hard to not buy Iceborne for PS4, but I can’t go back to the console version after moving to the PC version.

So excited for this! Picked up a PC copy from Green Man Gaming for a good price. Stopped playing some months back but I've been itching to dive back in.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne PC review — An incredible experience made even better

from a technical standpoint, Iceborne is best experienced on PC; it's simply stunning...for reference, I played on the highest settings at 1440p (144 Hz) with a Ryzen 7 1700X CPU, an RTX 2080 Ti GPU, and 16GB of RAM and I was simply floored at how gorgeous everything was...I found that the new Hoarfrost Reach area is the most visually interesting and exciting place to visit in World...since it's the main area of Iceborne, it makes sense why Capcom would make it so diverse and enticing...each zone feels unique, whether it's the frozen forest, icy caverns, or anywhere else...

With Monster Hunter World, it seems like Capcom took the PC port seriously...keyboard and mouse felt like the best way to play the game, and key rebinding lets you craft your own experience...Iceborne takes that one step further by overhauling everything, revamping the controls to handle the new and improved abilities, like the Clutch Claw...
