It is ridiculous how people get so worked up about which launcher pops up for five seconds before the game starts that they derail threads.
people bitching in every thread possible is trolling, telling them to sftu isn'tThe derailment happened when someone decided to troll anyone who made even a passing comment about EGS.
Great, they finally have a release date of August 2020.

he was taking a stab at it being EGS exclusive for a year.I've never preordered a game in my life.... just did for this though. August 2020? it comes out in 3 1/2 weeks ya loon

yeah I know a lot of people have been crying about EGS. I'm willing to bet they were still in diapers when Steam first came out. Talk about a dumpster fire!!!
I think I was 24 when Steam launched. That being said, Epic game store still sucks donkey balls.
I typically don't play single player games but this is one I want. I'll probably wait a while until it gets cheaper though.
You know what's cool about EGS? You can buy a game and install it then you don't need EGS to run the game anymore. But it's still on your EGS account so you can download it again later if you want and don't need to worry about losing your copy.
It downloads super fast compared to Steam's outdated slow infrastructure. I have gigabit and I hate being limited to 150 mb/s and waiting an hour for something that should take less than 10 minutes. (I know first world problems right? It's almost as bad as having to click a different icon.)
The things people complain about are pathetic. Hurr durr during the sale there wasn't a shopping cart and he couldn't buy every game on the store without getting flagged for fraudulent activity. Did you do that? No you didn't. A handful out of millions of people did that. It isn't an issue. Hurr Durr no linux support. Oh gee, it sucks that the 0.5% population of Steam that plays on Linux doesn't get to enjoy EGS. Hurr durr there isn't a search. Lol they have 20 games just scroll down (and btw they do have search now). Hurr durr a Chinese company invested in Epic they're sending my Fortnite stats to China and other crazy conspiracy theories. Lol.
The only legitimate annoying thing about EGS for 99% of PC gamers is you have to download a different client and use a different account than Steam. It's just people hating change and succumbing to their tribal instincts. They're compelled to pick a side and hate what they don't have.
Tim walking up to publishers with a bag of Fortbucks extracted from children, whispering in their ear "just don't sell your game on Steam, k? There's more where this came from".
That's what's pissing people the fuck off. Because hijacking a game and holding it hostage in only one "store" is anti-competetive, anti-consumer, does not do a damn thing for gamers. If the Epic cancer gets fed and grows, eventually they'd just want a monopoly on every game. It would never stop.
If it's just about money, then Valve can compete if they like; same for Microsoft. If Valve is choosing to not compete, well, here I come Epic store. I'm not going to rag on good developers getting paid.
They just don't care because they know this nonsense will end soon. Never interfere with the enemy when he is destroying himself.I'm not entirely convinced that Valve is even aware of everything going on, or that anyone working there would actually care enough to do anything if they did.

Read an article recently where someone got a tour of Valve and was able to ask questions about various topics and it seems like most Valve employees are barely, if at all, aware of what people are saying online and when they do hear about they'll only do something if creating a solution interests them.

Well in this case, you can make a pretty good argument that what Epic is doing isn't really competing in the normal sense.
We don't really want a market full of exclusives.
Also think how you'd like a situation like this in the physical world, if Walmart or Target or Newegg paid nVidia or Intel or AMD to only sell their products at that store, so you couldn't get them from other places. That sound like something you'd be on board with? How is that competition?
So, make a better store. You won't have trouble getting people to sell on your store as well as sell on Steam (and others), just the name Epic is big enough to get devs to want to list with them. So offer a better rate to developers, and offer a better experience to consumers. You'd gain market in a hurry.
Also I don't know if I'd use car dealerships and mobile phone providers as a defense: Can you think of two more reviled industries? They are absolutely full of shitty practices, things like brand lock-in being one of them.
Who cares? the games are still easily available. You just go to a different website to buy it.Maybe switch to decaf. None of that shilling addresses the real thorn Epic is jamming in everyone's side: Tim walking up to publishers with a bag of Fortbucks extracted from children, whispering in their ear "just don't sell your game on Steam, k?
